Gin Sul Edition Kleine Freiheit (English for “small freedom”) is the new and strictly limited edition of the successful distillery from Hamburg. Only 4,000 bottles exist worldwide, and lovers are already rubbing their hands!

Named after the "Kleine Freiheit" in the Hamburg district St. Pauli

Named after the "Kleine Freiheit ", one of the two most famous streets in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli, this gin is a declaration of love to this historic place. That part of Hamburg’s district Altona was home to artisans in the 17th century that enjoyed special religious and trade freedoms, which later brought this area simply the name "freedom". The two streets "Große" (English for “great”) and "Kleine Freiheit" (English for “small freedom”) became famous with the quartier and still are until today.

Juniper meets cumin, anise, fennel, dill, lemons and five kinds of pepper

With Gin Sul's Kleine Freiheit, a declaration of love was distilled for the city of Hamburg, and thus to the hometown of Gin Sul. The gin contains Tuscan juniper, cumin, anise, fennel, dill, lemon and five different types of pepper. The latter are composed of Tellicherry, Bengal long pepper, Kampot pepper, African long pepper and Timut pepper.

The special pepper varieties were extracted for Gin Sul's Kleine Freiheit in a lengthy process known as percolation, and finally gently distilled. For one night only, the gin was allowed to sit in old 500 liter aquavit oak barrels before finding its way into the chic white Gin Sul bottle.

Gin Suls Kleine Freiheit comes with a small Troyer by Rymhart

Speaking of bottles: so that Gin Suls Kleine Freiheit won’t be cold, Gin Sul has come up with something very special for this year's edition. The bottles, hand-numbered as usual, are delivered in a small half-zip sweater bag made of pure wool, which also contains the corresponding number in the inner lining. Responsible for the small half-zip sweaters is the brand Rymhart, which maintains the “Troyer” tradition on the outskirts of Hamburg in the Hanseatic city of Stade. A “troyer” is - for those who do not know it - the name for a wool sweater that was originally worn by fishermen and sailors as working gear.

By the way: The brand Rymhart also knows how to express its love for their home. The Low German sailor saying "Rüm hart - klaar kiming" served as an eponym of the Rymhart Troyer and translates as "wide heart - clear horizon".
