At the end of July 2015 it was time for the German gastronomy blog Sternefresser - "star-guzzler" - to host the second round of their esteemed blind tasting event, BottleTank. While the first event saw German Pinot Noirs being tested, the second round saw attentions turning to German gins. The jury was made up of 16 sommeliers, bartenders, distillers, and journalists, each of whom had nominated one gin. So the knockout competition got underway with 16 competitors, and the tasting began; blind and pure. By the time the contest got to the semi-finals, a north vs. south dynamic was clearly on show: the first semi saw Feel! Munich Gin defeated by the eventual winner, Hamburg's Gin Sul, while North Sea Gin lost out to the Bavarian Granit Gin in the second. After all that gin, a third-place playoff was never going to be on the cards.
Urban Drinks offers you the chance to organise your own rematch - with the "Top 4 Set" you can judge the quality of the four semi-finalists yourself, and take as long as you want for any instant replays.
