The Glenlivet 15 YO French Oak
The Glenlivet 15, which is served in a 0.7L bottle, is a classic and exciting single malt whisky from the Scottish region of Speyside.
The Glenlivet distillery attaches great importance to tradition, which is also reflected in The Glenlivet 15 YO French Oak. The whisky is made from malted barley and natural spring water.
Maturation
After a double distillation in copper stills, the distillate matures for a total of 15 years. The maturation takes place in three parts, mostly in former bourbon casks made of American white oak. A smaller part of the distillate is stored in former sherry casks, also made of American white oak. The special thing is that the third partial ageing takes place for a short time in new casks made of French Limousin oak from the Duordogne. These barrels are normally used for wine and cognac ageing and create a particularly exciting taste composition.
Aroma and taste
In the nose, The Glenlivet 15 initially flatters with floral nuances that are wonderfully rounded off by spicy oak. The single malt also has a fine aroma of dried fruit, subtle vanilla and a little toffee. There is also a slight alcohol note, which is wonderfully balanced by the spice and sweetness.
On the palate, The Glenlivet 15 impresses with its mildness, which is accompanied by light sherry and caramel. The spicy oak can also be recognized here.
Finish
The finish shows no sharpness and is extremely creamy. The predominant sweetness is in harmony with the nutty tips, with a pleasant peppery spiciness coming into play at the back.
