Glen Scotia - The Distillery
There are only three distilleries which are still active in Campbeltown. One of them is Glen Scotia - a distillery that has been located in this small Scottish town since 1832. It remained a family business until 1919 when it was sold to the West Highland Malt Distillers. Nowadays, exquisite products are still being made, which spoil the palates of many connoisseurs worldwide with expressive compositions.
Glen Scotia Double Cask
Glen Scotia Double Cask is a Scotch Single Malt Whisky that was first made available to the public in 2015.
Barrels
Since this is a Single Malt Whisky, it is distilled traditionally (and according to regulations) in copper stills. Double Cask stands for the storage in two different barrel types. It starts with a maturation in ex-Bourbon barrels of American white oak. Then the maturing time passes into an ex-sherry barrel finish. To be exact, the casks are Pedro Ximénez sherry casks (PX).
Flavor and Aroma
As the barrel selection might suggest, the fine drop behaves sweetly and full-bodied on the palate. The nose senses tones of caramel, candied fruit and toffee which merge with fruity hints of apple and peach in the course of the nosing. It is very interesting when aromas of oak and mint reveal themselves to the nose and palate.
