Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin - Exotic meets Tradition

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin - a name that arouses curiosity. Behind the name Drumshanbo lies an idyllic Irish town and Gunpowder a very interesting kind of Chinese tea. Its leaves are rolled into beads, which is why the name derives from the similarity to gunpowder.

History

The distillery in Drumshanbo, in the remote Irish county of Leitrim, was built by Pat Rigney, who created a pioneer for artisan distilleries in Ireland. Far away from mass production, he relies on small batches and the joy of experimenting on the copper still. A good example of this is Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, because he impresses not only with exotic and unusual botanicals, but also with his cross-over character, which allows him to combine spice, astringency and classics.

Production

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin combines oriental and Irish ingredients. There are a total of 12 exquisite botanicals, some of which are well known, such as juniper, angelica and cardamom. But also exotic ones like Chinese lime, Gunpowder Tea (dried Chinese green tea), Kaffir lime and grapefruit rank among the 12.

The main part of the ingredients is distilled directly in the pot still and lies in the infusion basket between the bubble and the condenser. Thus the gin absorbs the aromas of the tea and citrus fruits as it passes through the distillation apparatus.

Taste

You can taste spice, astringency and juniper. In the nose you can smell juniper, spices and citrus notes. On the palate, the spicy body is increasingly perceived as bitter tea with bitter notes and citrus, before the finish presents itself with a long and spicy aftertaste.

Perfect Serve

The gin can be combined fabulously with a Mediterranean and herbaceous tonic water, as both the notes of tea and citrus fruits are so wonderfully noticeable. In any case, an exotic gin awaits you, but none that is too experimental. The balancing act between Irish tradition and experimental curiosity has been a complete success.
