A special edition from the acclaimed Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur - the manufacturer of the renowned Gin Sul -, the 2015 Cruzeiro do Sul is a limited run of just 2,000 bottles. This gin is matured in barrels which formerly held Moscatel de Setúbal, a Portuguese fortified wine noted for its distinctive apricot flavours. In May 2015 the maturing barrels were shipped on the deck of the MS EUROPA 2, widely regarded as the best cruise ship in the world, and the barrels have travelled across Europe, from the port of Hamburg all the way to Lisbon. With the barrels back in Germany, the Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur snapped them up in order to mature their special edition gin with an infusion of Muscatel wine flavours.

"Cruzeiro" is the Portuguese word for cruising, and the special edition gin was named this in honour of the long journey on which these barrels have been. It is a tribute to the tradition of "Torna viagem", the crossing between Portugal and Brazil, along which many outstanding wines have been shipped over the years. The result is a gin with a delicate citrus scent on the nose, which is paired with rich notes of forest honey, labdanum, and Muscatel. On the palate, fine notes of vanilla, caramel, orange, coriander, and oak make for a bright, pure gin which shines in a Martini or Martinez cocktail.
