From noble beginnings to Napoleon’s court: Courvoisier VS
Created in the early 1800s, Courvoisier founders Louis Gallois and Emmanuel Courvoisier had a simple and modest goal in mind: to make the world’s best cognac. Since then Courvoisier has been decreed “Official Supplier to the Imperial Court” under Napoleon, toasted the Grand Opening of the Eiffel Tower, and relocated from its Parisian location to Jarnac, in the heart of the Cognac region.
Legend has it that Napoleon held Courvoisier, with its Parisian sensibility, in such high esteem that he took with him several barrels of the cognac to enjoy during his years in exile on the island of St. Helena. This was a treat much appreciated by the English officers on the ship who named it "the Cognac of Napoleon".
Iconic bottles and Hip Hop associations
Continuing to honour the spirit of Napoleon, Courvoisier launched the Josephine bottle in 1951, named after Napoleon’s first wife. The shape of this bottle is what Courvoisier is most known for. With a thin neck and wide base, it resembles corsets, which Josephine was known for loving.
Today, "le Cognac de Napoléon" is loved by the Hip Hop generation - to a large extent thanks to Busta Rhymes' hit song "Pass The Courvoisier" which featured Diddy and Pharrell. A$AP Rocky also partnered with the brand in 2017 on their ‘Honour Your Code’ campaign.
Rich aromas and hints of oak
Courvoisier VS is a blend of several crus aged between three and seven years. It is a youthful and lively blend of cognac, which delivers a spectrum of sensations. It boasts rich aromas with hint of oak. Its full taste and character leaves a clean and fresh finish on the palate. This may be down to the fact that Courvoisier is the only Cognac house to control the process from grape to glass. It is double distilled in an intense and unique process which combines traditional techniques with new technologies.
