Production

Blackened American Whiskey by Metallica is a special drink for several reasons. First of all, it's the first drink the metal legends bring to the market on their own. Nowadays it's a given that a rock band brings out their own whisky, vodka or even gin, not to mention beer. Just like the other rock-backed drinks in our range, Blackened American Whiskey is not just some random product only with the band's logo slapped onto the bottle. In March 2018 Metallica announced the opening of their own whiskey distillery. They found in Dave Pickerell a worthy master who understood exactly what the band wanted to create.

Pickerell has a doctorate in chemical engineering and has gained a foothold in the world of spirits in particular. He developed unique distilling and maturing processes - exactly the right man for Metallica Whiskey. This is a blend of various bourbons, ryes and other North American whiskeys selected by Pickerell. The mixture is filled into black brandy barrels and - an absolute novelty - is then exposed to a low frequency version of "Blackened", the opening track of the 1988 album "...And Justice For All". This method influences the molecular interactions and gives the blend a unique finish. The bottle label of the Blackened American Whiskey is decorated accordingly by the frequency of the song in a visualised version. The legendary cover of "Whiskey In The Jar" by Metallica might have been more fitting thematically, but that might have become a bit too cheerful for the whiskey.

Taste

Metallica Whiskey tastes one thing above all else: American. The reason for this is that with the ingredients, only the best from the whole of North America ends up in the drink. Every distillate contributes decisively to the taste. Bourbon provides slightly sweet notes, which are accompanied by the spice of rye whiskey. Through maturing in the black brandy barrels, Blackened American Whiskey by Metallica receives some distinctive notes of the brandy previously stored in it. In the nose there are mainly distilled caramel, honey, oak and a hint of spice. On the palate cloves, allspice, mint, honey, cinnamon, some honey and a fruity hint of apricot dominate. The long and gentle finish is very creamy with hints of maple, toffee and again honey. A pure pleasure from beginning to end.

Metallica is undoubtedly one of the biggest bands that America has ever produced. It was founded in 1981 in Los Angeles by James Hetfield (frontman and guitarist) and Lars Ulrich (drummer) and has since been more than active with an occasionally switching crew. They revolutionised the genres of heavy and thrash metal with their iconic albums "Kill 'Em All" (1983), "Master of Puppets" (1986), "...And Justice For All" (1988) and "Metallica" (1991). Today the band consists of Hetfield and Ulrich as well as Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) and Robert Trujillo (bass). Countless bands like Korn, Machine Head and Avenged Sevenfold name the legends from California as an elementary influence on their music, and even Snoop Dogg performed a cover version of the song "Sad But True" on the MTV show "Icon" in honour of the band.
