Amrut Indian Single Malt is a delicious whisky from India
Amrut Indian Single Malt is the original spirit from the Indian brand. The whisky is bound to satisfy with its pleasantly sweet and spicy aromas of honey, toffee, hay and ripe fruit. On the palate it reveals rich notes of grain, dry wood and spices such as cinnamon and vanilla.
The name Amrut comes from Indian mythology. One of the stories is about gods and demons who, many hundreds of years ago caused the oceans to roar with the help of the mountains. When suddenly a golden pot leaped out of the water containing the elixir of life, this was called Amrut. Today's Amrut Whisky was created in 1948, the year that marked the end of British colonial rule in India. It was during this time that the Indians began to make whisky for themselves.
A single malt from Bangalore in India
Amrut Indian Single Malt is produced by Amrut Distilleries Limited, which belongs to the Indian N.R. Jagdale Group. The distillery is located in Bangalore in the state of Karnataka, at the foot of the Himalaya Mountains. In Sanskrit, Amrut means life-water.
The special thing about producing whisky in Bangalore is the climatic conditions. It is as a result of these that the “Angels Share”, the percentage of whisky that evaporates during storage, is very high. This means that the whiskey cannot be stored very long. However, this is not necessarily because the whisky matures much faster in these climatic conditions.
A whisky from the foot of the Himalayas
The basis for the Amrut Single Malt is Indian grain grown at the foot of the Himalayas. The first step is to gently mash the grain and then distill it in small batches to preserve the natural flavors as best as possible. The distillates are then stored in oak barrels. In order to preserve the natural flavors of the whisky, this single malt is not chill filtered.
In 2014, Jim Murray awarded Amrut Single Malt the Liquid Gold Award.
