Superb GUI for ffmpeg

Review by NGage^ on Oct 30, 2023 Version: 3.0.1 OS: Windows 11 64-bit Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

I've been using this app for several years and it gets better every year. It is suitable for both advanced users and beginners. The interface is well thought out and does not contain anything superfluous. What was most important for me, there is a possibility to manually prescribe FFmpeg commands! The author of the program is constantly developing it and bringing improvements. And if I need a specific FFmpeg function, I know that FFmpeg Batch Converter can handle it. 10/10!

Great GUI.

It has one MAJOR FLAW.

There is no option to insert input parameters.
I want to be able to read the video file with my GPU too. It's easy to set the output options "-c:v hevc_nvenc"

But setting input options "-hwaccell cuvid"... there's nowhere to do so.

The most completely functional of the FFMPEG GUIs that have been updated recently. Needs slightly improved batch processing. Don't see anyway to batch demux video files. Allows demuxing to raw steams at least.

First off: GREAT TOOL. THANK YOU to the creators. However, I have a problem on how to implement the command, below, in the "Parameters" field, especially when I want to batch multiple files. In addition, the command is to address audio & video sync issues where the audio is AHEAD of the video:

$ ffmpeg -i file.mkv -itsoffset 3 -i file.mkv -c:a copy -c:v copy -map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0 out.mkv

I love this software, but in the latest version (2.4.1), I am getting the below errors that didn't appear in a prior one I was using (2.3.2). Please fix these because I LOVE your app. I am encoding using hevc_nvenc with the below parameters that when I remove them it removes the errors, but they are essential to my conversion string:

-tune grain -deblock -3:-1 -b -pyramid strict -psy-rd 2.5 -rc vbr_hq

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Codec AVOption psy-rd (Strength of psychovisual optimization, in : format.) specified for output file #0 (C:\Users\Computer\AppData\Local\Temp\\FFBatch_test\War and Peace.mkv) has not been used for any stream. The most likely reason is either wrong type (e.g. a video option with no video streams) or that it is a private option of some encoder which was not actually used for any stream.

Codec AVOption deblock (Loop filter parameters, in form.) specified for output file #0 (C:\Users\Computer\AppData\Local\Temp\\FFBatch_test\War and Peace.mkv) has not been used for any stream. The most likely reason is either wrong type (e.g. a video option with no video streams) or that it is a private option of some encoder which was not actually used for any stream.

Codec AVOption b-pyramid (Keep some B-frames as references.) specified for output file #0 (C:\Users\Computer\AppData\Local\Temp\\FFBatch_test\War and Peace.mkv) has not been used for any stream. The most likely reason is either wrong type (e.g. a video option with no video streams) or that it is a private option of some encoder which was not actually used for any stream.

The tool has an excellent interface, it is clear, well documented, and seems frequently updated.

However, none of the portable version of this work, because they keep looking for the settings file in an non existing %APPDATA%\Roaming location instead of looking in its own installation directory. Besides defeating the purpose of a portable version, it makes the application crash before even attempting any kind of encoding operation.
Looking at the forum, a similar error has been reported in the past, but apparently has never been fixed.
Such a glaring error makes it look that the application has never been tested, and taken together with some other illogical issues (for instance, when setting manually a 'relative' output path, dot characters are not allowed. In a relative pathname?) makes one very skeptical about its overall quality and wary of other possible huge mistakes.

I would recommend looking into this again in the future, but I would not recommend its use right now.

I can't believe that I didn't post a review erlier...

I've used this program for the past 2 years (atleast), I was looking for a ffmpeg gui that let me customize the commands but still create presets so that those friends or coworkers that are not familiar with ffmpeg nor command lines could easly use what I gave them to use. But then when I realized that I could change the ffmpeg binary and use custom ones was the game changer that made me use this gui as my daily driver, both for personal research and work, so much that I've learned so many things via quick and dirty testing that I probably would have skipped if I was sticking just to the terminal.

For those used to ffmpeg command lines this is just a great tool. For those who are not, well, maybe this could be the one tool that will help them learn this universe.

Really great piece of software.
Neat interface with plenty of features. Perfect for advanced ffmpeg operations without the hassle of a CLI.

And the author,Eibol, is very responsive to feedback!

This is a very good GUI app for FFmpeg. Very light and versatile.
If you're comfortable with FFmpeg commands, you better use this app instead of typing in FFmpeg commands in Terminal/Shell/Dos Prompt, etc for sequential processing.
Other tasks such as trimming, concatenating, muxing can be easily done with this app.
You can replace the default binary builds (ffmpeg.exe, ffprobe.exe) in the app folder with your own builds, which is a big plus.
I greatly appreciate the developer's precious input. Keep it up! :)

Version 2.1.0 portable rejects everything I throw at it. Version 2.0 works fine except for preset lists not saving properly. Bad is going to worse..

Very good gui for ffmpeg, exactly what I was looking for. Wouldn't mind an option to disable the log file output but other than that I can't complain.

Love this app. However, theis version 1.6.9 fails to save new presets properly. I reverted to 1.6.7. Hope it gets fixed quickly, only because I have started to rely on it.

Thanks!

I've tried some ffmpeg GUIs in the past and while some were decent, most of them were too complicated and bloated or never let you specify your own parameters to ffmpeg, I'm happy to report that this is not the case here.

This one is very flexible and powerful while at the same time packing a nice wizard that can guide you through the options without knowing any complicated commands, perfect for novice users! Which makes it good for new people and seasoned veterans of the CLI. This is turning into my go-to converter now, I'm excited to see its development continue, maybe even a linux version in the future? whatever it is I'm sure it'll make it even better.

Best ffmpeg batch encoder I found.
This software is great to batch encode Panasonic GH5 AVCHD into ProRes with ffmpeg command
-c:v prores_ks -profile:v standard -vendor:v ap10 -pix_fmt yuv422p10le -c:a pcm_s16le -chunk_size 64K
You can set encoding process priority to idle and keep working.
Creator was very helpful to fix an issue with it, contrats to him.
