The 2024 Australian Open – a Grand Slam level tennis tournament held at Melbourne Park, took place from the 14th to 28th of January. For the first time in history, the winner was an Italian player, Jannik Sinner, who defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final match.
The Italians were so excited about these results that the country entered a tennis-fever. So, how did these celebrations affect Pornhub? Our statisticians took a closer look at the search terms for our friends at ADN Kronos.
In Italy, searches for tennis related terms started increasing after the beginning of the competition, at the start of January, and kept rising and falling over the next two weeks. The day after Jannik Sinner won, searches soared up +226%! It seems the Italians unlocked a new fantasy with their excitement.
But what exactly did Italians look for on Pornhub? First was a generic “tennis player” followed by “tennis coach” and “tennis nude” and then “tennis skirt.” After that, viewers got a little more creative with their variants related to the sport, including “white tennis shoes” and “lesbian tennis.”
However, there was another country who were even more engaged than the Italians – the host country, Australia!
The Australians were so focused on the sport, during the competition tennis related searches in the country soared to an incredible +2,689% on the 21st of January.
