Canadian Thanksgiving Insights 2023

Our friends at Daily Hive asked us to provide some insights into the traffic in Canada on Thanksgiving Day, October 9th. Our statisticians love to know what’s trending on the site around holidays and world events, they pulled some data and found some very festive results!

First, our statisticians looked at the hourly percent variance in traffic across Canada on Thanksgiving Day, when compared to the same hours on an average Monday.

It is important to note that many people weren’t obligated to go to work on Monday morning, since it was a federal holiday. Because of this, traffic is higher in the early morning hours. 4 am saw the highest amount of traffic compared to an average day, with a +23% increase, while noon and 2 pm saw the second highest amount of traffic, at +19% respectively.

At 7 am, traffic was at its lowest, sitting at –20%, before slowly rising into positive numbers again at 10 am. A second drop began to occur at 5 pm when many people were undoubtedly preparing or sitting down for dinner. 7 pm saw a drop of –12%, and the numbers remained below average until 11 pm.

Next, our statisticians broke down the percent change in traffic by Canadian provinces on Thanksgiving Day around dinner time (4 pm – 9 pm), adjusted for local time zones.

On the East Coast, we found higher traffic levels to Pornhub, but in central Canada, traffic was as much as –11% below average for that 4 pm – 9 pm period.

Provincially, Ontario seemed to be the most invested in Thanksgiving, with a –11% drop in traffic. Alberta and Manitoba followed closely behind, with a –10% drop in traffic. On the other hand, PEI and Nunavut saw an increase in traffic by +7%.

Looking more closely by cities, Calgary and Toronto had the largest drops in traffic, with –15% below average during this time. The cities of Ottawa and Halifax saw a small drop of –1%.

Overall, the average traffic drop across Canada was –8.1%.

Searches on Thanksgiving

Now, what were people searching for on Thanksgiving? When compared to the previous month’s searches, we found that, naturally, Thanksgiving was +6,633% higher. But people on October 9th were also +698% more into “naked girls” too. For those who aren’t into home cooking, “delivery” was up +435% as well!

When it came to Thanksgiving related searches, visitors were into “thanksgiving turkey,” “thanksgiving dinner,” “thanksgiving stuffing” (who doesn’t like getting stuffed on Thanksgiving?), “thanksgiving creampie,” “step mom thanksgiving” and a good old fashioned “thanksgiving anal.”

Next, our statisticians found a little surprise. The popularity of searches containing “thanksgiving” continued to go up in the days after the holiday. Whatever people were finding, they were clearly interested in seeing more of it!

And that’s a wrap for Canadian Thanksgiving 2023. We hope our visitors were stuffed and satisfied with their searches!
