A Frisian is someone who lives in Friesland. Friesland is a province in the Netherlands.

Frisian is also the language that is spoken in Friesland. It is a Germanic language related to Dutch, it is also the closest living language to English. Since it has been spoken since Roman times, English could descend from Frisian directly.

The language is spoken in the Netherlands, in Eastern Germany, and in some areas of Jutland, Denmark. It is also spoken on the Frisian Isles (Wadden Isles) and Western German (East Frisian) Isles such as Borkum.
