Merger proposal[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Broad consensus of this discussion was to merge. CommanderWaterford (talk) 08:52, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[]

Per concerns at Wikipedia:In_the_news/Candidates#RD:_Mya_Thwe_Thwe_Khaing, I think this article should be merged to the 2021 Myanmar protests. --Regards, Jeromi Mikhael 15:39, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[]

Isn't an article about her death essentially that of the protest itself? We have articles like Killing of George Floyd because those events triggered unrest. I don't see her death being anything other than a single civilian casualty of the protests. It neither triggered nor led to anything (as of now). She's dead and reported in the news. By the same token, we'll have "Death of" articles about pretty much every living person with an article on Wikipedia. SSH remoteserver (talk) 19:10, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[]
Note that George Floyd is an independent article. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 22:45, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
That's exactly the point. He has had a lot of follow-up events from the killing. The lady here was notable for being a single casulty of the protests (which is no longer true). As more have died, coverage of her death is being wiped out. SSH remoteserver (talk) 17:10, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[]
I cannot find any Burmese or English sources corroborating the death of a police officer, aside from the military-owned Myawaddy News and Asia Times (which incorrectly notes the location of the other civilian casualty). Reports appear unconfirmed; Kyodo states "the military said..." while Reuters states "the army says..." Anyone else have more success? -Hintha(t) 04:14, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
This is why I have some concerns with merging (with me leaning towards restructure before deciding for merge afterall) because her death may might be more important than it actually was, and the possibility of what you said above. MarioJump83! 08:51, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]

I wanted to point out that NetBlocks has confirmed that that all Wikipedia servers have been blocked by Myanmar authorities (source), in case any Wikipedia users based in Myanmar would like to weigh in on this evolving matter. --Hintha(t) 03:44, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]

Two sources are more than enough. The problem is all other media sources have so far been unneutral. It was said during an official press conference with gruesome photos as evidence. But the Burmese media, rarely known for its professionalism, decided to stage an information blackout over his death (to give spotlight on the girl and create a martyr). You can also cite the press conference. SSH remoteserver (talk) 05:26, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
Here is his official funeral. No journalist in attendence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPyDb3fTcVg . SSH remoteserver (talk) 05:41, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
I think it should be the opposite, shouldn't it? Redirect for now and create an article if she does become famous. We don't create articles hoping that they will become notable later. SSH remoteserver (talk) 05:16, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
SSH remoteserver, exactly. Honestly this should have been taken to AfD because of WP:BLP1E where the outcome could be to merge it. CommanderWaterford (talk) 09:26, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
Exactly. By now, there's no chance that she'll get continued coverage as seven more protesters died yesterday. It's just one-day reporting cycle. SSH remoteserver (talk) 17:10, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[]
We should not do this. See WP:CRYSTALBALL. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 14:08, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[]
Just so you know: all policies are enforced. Still, WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 15:53, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[]
This is explicitly noted as an argument to avoid; see WP:OTHERLANGS. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 15:26, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[]
