RfC on election/referendum naming format[edit]

An RfC on moving the year from the end to the start of article titles (e.g. South African general election, 2019 to 2019 South African general election) has been reopened for further comment, including on whether a bot could be used move the articles if it closed in favour of the change: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation)#Proposed change to election/referendum naming format. There are plenty of articles with the expression "self-proclaimed" NKR and "Armenian occupation" even for places exclusively inhabited by Armenians. There are Azeri users reverting my edits (trying to get a NPOV) back to these biased, pro-Azeri expressions. As we should know, actually all nations are "self-proclaimed", including Azerbaijan (seceding from the Soviet Union), the United States (seceding from Great Britain) and others. Let's use neutral expressions such as "under control" instead of "under occupation" or omit unnecessary and biased wordings like "self-proclaimed". -- PhJ (talk) 21:10, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[]

"Self-proclaimed" is added to note that republic is not recognised by any single UN member. This is the norm for any unrecognised countries (e.g. North Cyprus) and "Armenian-occupied" should only be added to areas outside Nagorno-Karabakh that were occupied by Armenian forces during the First Nagorno-Karabakh war. It doesn't matter if the village/town had Armenian-majority since this doesn't change the fact that international law calls these lands specifically "occupied" and for sure, you can't argue that UN, PACE or OSCE is biased. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 21:19, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[]
All nations are "self-proclaimed", but not all of those proclamations are internationally recognized. Also, we've discussed the usage of the term "occupation" here. Also, avoid canvassing others. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 07:01, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[]

given recent events, it may be prudent to revive this wikiproject in order to deal with all of the articles (towns, monasteries, etc) and statistics that will now need to be updated. obviously the situation will continue developing and it remains to be seen what will happen to the remaining population as well as the government, but i think it's important to start preparing for an overhaul of the neglected articles within the scope of this wikiproject. i've moved all of the tasks on the main page into a to do page, but haven't removed or reviewed any of them. that will be a very important task; there are lots of "articles that need to be created" that probably don't meet WP:N criteria, could be merged into a single article to be created, etc. Sawyer-mcdonell (talk) 04:16, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[]
Artsakh is about to disappear. This WikiProject shouldn't even exist. Everything could be perfectly covered in WikiProject Armenia/Azerbaijan. Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 08:53, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[]
if you don't want to participate in the WP, that's fine - your contributions to the topic are still appreciated Sawyer-mcdonell (talk) 16:41, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[]
