Points of interest related to New York (state) on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to New York. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|New York|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to New York. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to US.

Article unconditionally and utterly fails WP:SPORTBASIC, prong 5 ("Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources." Article has been tagged for 18 months due to this deficiency and still no SIGCOV. Preferred result is redirect to List of players who appeared in only one game in the NFL (1920–1929)#1921 but my efforts to do that have twice been reverted (in 2022 by User:BeanieFan11 and in 2024 by User:Let'srun). - Redirect to List of players who appeared in only one game in the NFL (1920–1929)#1921: My revert was due to the previous request for a discussion to determine notability, which hadn't yet occurred. However, a search of multiple newspaper archives failed to uncover the needed WP:SIGCOV to meet the WP:GNG. Redirect as a WP:ATD. Let'srun (talk) 18:34, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Spent four years at Fordham and played professionally in 1919 as well as 1921. That "George Kane Fordham" in NY / OH doesn't seem to bring up anything has me thinking that he might have been known under another name. It seems Fordham in 1912 had two Kanes, H. Kane and V. Kane. Wonder whether one of those is our Kane under a different name... BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:14, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

- Delete as the article doesn't seem to meet WP:NCORP. As to the citations in the article: ArsTechnica is actually more reliable than TechCrunch (ArsTechnica is rated as generally reliable, while TechCrunch is rated as marginally reliable on WP:RSP). However, none of the three citations provide significant coverage. Source 1 is WP:ORGTRIV (it talks about a standard transaction, namely "a capital transaction, such as raised capital"). Source 2 only mentions Security Scorecard with regard to something else, and Source 3 is a listicle. – Epicgenius (talk) 14:53, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

This is a company therefore GNG/WP:NCORP requires at least two deep or significant sources with each source containing "Independent Content" showing in-depth information *on the company*. "Independent content", in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject. - Delete and/or restore redirect to List of radio stations in New York: any time a BLAR is contested for such a non-notable entity, it reduces the value of publicly retaining the page history any further. This is the type of radio station article (LPFM, started within the last decade or so) that, after the 2021 RfC that finally abolished the previous, more existence-based and non-GNG inclusion standards in this topic area, we have been (very) slowly trying to purge when they are remnants of the previous standards — this 2023-created article isn't even that. We need actual significant coverage — the FCC, the station itself, and Radio-Locator aren't enough anymore. WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 06:25, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

- Keep Although our broadcast article guidelines have tightened a bit, they really haven't changed for known commercial FM radio stations owned by large-scale broadcasting companies like iHeart, and this is notable enough to be kept (though I'd like to see improvement in the article for sure). There is no result that ends with it just being redirected to the corporate article without any rhyme or reason. Nate • (chatter) 00:31, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Keep: Per Nate.
- I also want to mention that I mean, it's notable enough to be kept on Wikipedia without it being redirected (since I mean, it's owned by iHeartMedia) even though sources and just improvement in general are an necessary thing here. Also, just a note, it shouldn't be redirected to the corporate article for no reason, because chances are, in some of these cases, they often redirect it to the state list of radio stations. (In this case, it would be redirected to the list of Radio Stations in New York State.) mer764KCTV5 / Cospaw the Wolfo (He/Him | t • c) 03:36, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Article subject does not look notable generally or as an academic or educator. All of the citation links in the article are actually to the same New York Times article, which only briefly mentions the article subject: "In 1994, the school had fewer than 50 students learning Spanish; now, there are 180, said Francois Thibaut, the school's director. A class had to be added this fall to accommodate the increasing demand, he said." [13].
