Are you kidding me? Did you even read my nomination text? I wrote, that I do not want the file to be deleted. And you are deleting it with the comment "per nomination". That must be a joke. :D Chaddy (talk) 13:20, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

@Chaddy: You were not the nominator - that was Wdwdbot (i.e. Wdwd) with "same as File:Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team.jpg". In reality it's a reupload of the same image, and should have been speedily deleted as a re-upload out of process - you can only upload an image once, then you need to go to COM:UDR to ask for the first image to be undeleted. How many strikes?

Hi! I don't want to cause any unnecessary trouble for anyone, so please ignore this if it's out of place: but just how many strikes do we allow before the player is out? Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:30, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

@Justlettersandnumbers: Not sure if there is a firm rule - that's more than enough for an endofcopyvios message in my view (done), next copyvio - I give a 2 week block, after than the next copyvio gets an indef. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:07, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
That sounds very reasonable, thank you! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:13, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Image Attribution/Deletion Warning/Missing Source Information

Hello, I would very much appreciate your help with two images I uploaded for which I was notified might be deleted due to incomplete source information. I have read and re-read the info, but I obviously need your help in ensuring that these stay up. I'm confused as to what I need to add to the source information. If you would be so kind to spell it out for me, I'd be grateful for your help. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DsgnEdCr8v (talk • contribs) 17:17, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

@DsgnEdCr8v: This files are a derivative work - means they are a scan/photo of someone else's work. The source you gave said "Assured Automation" - the company will have to donate the copyright at COM:CONSENT Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:21, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Excellent. Thank you. For future reference, how do I go about doing this at the time of image upload, so as to avoid the warning message?--DsgnEdCr8v (talk) 17:25, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

@DsgnEdCr8v: Make sure you add {{subst:OP}} to each image page to show permission is being sent off. If you do that to those two images, I'll take off the banners. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:28, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

I'm sorry to say that I'm such a newbie at this! Do I add that after "source="?--DsgnEdCr8v (talk) 17:35, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

@DsgnEdCr8v: We were all new once... Make it look like

Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

My gratitude is immense. Thank you so much. I've done as you suggested to both images, and will keep this kernel of valuable knowledge in my back pocket. I also appreciate your encouraging tone. Thank you! --DsgnEdCr8v (talk) 17:54, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Please stop deleting my boss's photo

Hi Ronhjones, I appreciate the vigilance but please stop deleting my boss's headshot every time I try to upload it. It's her headshot, shot by our department, for use wherever she chooses. It also exists online at http://www.gorilladoctors.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/thumbnail-26.jpg because I posted it there since she is also on the board of a program within her own Institute (for Gorilla Doctors). Her photo was uploaded there because every board member gets to have their headshot listed on our Board Member page. --Eunahtuna (talk) 19:28, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

@Eunahtuna:
  1. You are only allowed to upload ONCE
  2. If you think the deletion is wrong then request undeletion at COM:UDR
  3. Since the image is all over the net, you won't get it undeleted until the copyright holder donates the copyright at COM:CONSENT. Once that is approved, then the OTRS team will undelete the image. There is no quick way of getting this image live - every man and his dog will tag it as a copyright violation.
It's always easy to upload images that have never been published anywhere else, otherwise you are in for a long slog. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:38, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I went ahead and uploaded one of her less-preferred (and unpublished) headshots instead.

Matt Waters, candidate for US Senate from VA.jpg

Why did you delete this pic? I thought the owner released it unconditionally? If he didn't, I know he did at least mean to and will alert him that he forgot to, but otherwise, I'm just curious.74.110.185.157 21:06, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Tagged by User:Ninjastriker as "No permission" on 17:34, 6 September 2018, message left on uploder's page. Nothing was changed on the image page. Appears to have been uploaded a total of three times - see User_talk:Matt_Waters_for_US_Senate. Only supposed to upload an image ONCE - after that, it really is a re-upload out of process. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:19, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Deletion request closure

Hi, Ronhjones. You recently closed Commons:Deletion requests/Photos from white-angel-daye.tistory.com and kept one image citing the license review. That was done by me ten months prior to the deletion request, and before I was aware that the guestbook comment was made. The guestbook on Tistory isn't highly visible, and it was likely an oversight on my part when I initially reviewed the image a year ago. As noted in my nomination, the image was published after August 7, 2017, and the apparent commercial restriction would apply. Can you give it a second look? xplicit 04:07, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

@Explicit: The source still has a link to "저작자표시 4.0 국제 (CC BY 4.0) " on it. I'm not an expert in Korean web sites, if you are still not happy, I can delete it. Are you implying this web site is a bit bad on their licenses? - because we have another case on this web site - Commons:Deletion requests/File:2018 FW 헤라서울패션위크 이예니 (1).jpg Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:31, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
I can understand Korean to some extent. It usually boils down to the blog owner not understanding the implications of Creative Commons licenses. In cases where where the post is marked as Creative Commons, while simultaneously having restrictions over derivatives and commercial use (in the post itself, on the blog's homepage, on its notice page, written in response to a question in the guestbook page... quite a bit of places to look), they are generally deleted under COM:PCP, see User:-revi/Tistory#NCR. In this case, the implication in the guestbook comment as noted in the nomination indicates commercial use is not allowed. In regards to Commons:Deletion requests/File:2018 FW 헤라서울패션위크 이예니 (1).jpg, the blog owner of sjcontents.tistory.com has a long history of releasing his photos under a Creative Commons licenses; the issue comes from the model who in the photos who appears to not like them and it does not deal with copyright issues. xplicit 23:57, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
@Explicit: Thanks for the clarification. I deleted the image you requested. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:17, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Could you undelete the file: File:Izabela Dąbrowska2 fot.Bartłomiej Ramza.jpg. There is a proper agreement from photographer sent to OTRS: Ticket#2018091910004616, Cheers, Polimerek (talk) 12:59, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I am new to Wikicommons and I don’t understand why the above referenced photo was deleted, After the initial warning I updated the sourde info with more information stating the source and that I have approval, and yet this was still deleted why? Greghk88 (talk) 00:22, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

@Greghk88: We need a source link so that we can verify the license. All you added was "Provided to me by Joe Lok in Hong Kong", so there is no verifiable source. Joe Lok will have to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. When the OTRS team have verified that, then they will undelete the image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:46, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ronhjones, thanks for your clarification. This also helps clarify the problem with another image that has been deleted. Greghk88 (talk) 07:36, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Spirit Photographer Cover Art

Hi Ron . . . regarding The Spirit Photographer cover photo you just deleted (Overlook Press, 2018), we did write to the publisher about posting this to Wikipedia and they said as long as we didn't alter the image at all, we were free to post it and that it did not violate copyright. Is there something else you need us to do to have you accept the image? Thanks, Alexander — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moviemaker325 (talk • contribs) 21:52, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

@Moviemaker325: Sadly we won't accept that - such a system ceased 12? years ago, as it was open to much abuse. The copyright holder needs to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. Also "not altering the image" would make it "no derivative" - also not acceptable. The most strict license we allow is CC-BY-SA-4.0 - Derivatives allowed and commercial re-use allowed. The only other option is a fair-use image - they need to be uploaded to the local wiki they will be used on - for en-wiki - see en:WP:NFC, and they will get reduced to <100,000 pixels. Moviemaker325 (talk) 14:27, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi! You marked two works from there as potential copyvios. So I'd like to clarify that actually this is an official GLAM cooperation and there is a written down permission from the artist (or at last it was told me in the summer that they had gotten it as I asked them). I'm trying to teach the museum staff uploading images themselves and it doesn't come easy. :) So please be gentle. It is their first time and getting it right still needs some practice. Kruusamägi (talk) 16:21, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kruusamägi: I suggest you put {{subst:OP}} on all the pages and get it sent off to OTRS, otherwise someone else will tag them again - as the stated source (https://tartmus.ee/) has no compatible license. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:11, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
I'll check on how far they are with uploading this stuff (as it seems that the number on images is still below on what they tould they are going to upload) and try to push them a bit. Few tags here or there are not much of an issue. I can remove them when permission is stored in OTRS.
Those are high-res tif-files, so they are not to be found from the museum web page anyway (or nowhere else prior to those uploads). Kruusamägi (talk) 21:48, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Bandeau "Missing permission"

Bonsoir,

--Deniev Dagun (talk) 21:28, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

@Deniev Dagun: Sadly the OTRS agent did not add the proper banner to show the ticket has been approved. Only OTRS agents can add that banner, so when we see there is no banner, then we assume that it has not been approved. I have properly fixed the image.
Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:35, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

I see. I'm glad that the misunderstanding has been cleared up. Thanks. --Deniev Dagun (talk) 23:20, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Deleted images Zuiderzeemuseum

Hi Ronhjones,

User SuyderSee contacted me with some questions on why certain images that were uploaded from their museum collection were deleted, and as part of my position at Wikimedia Nederland I'm contacting you to see what can be done here. On 23 August, you deleted a number of images that were uploaded by user SuyderSee (see this section and images below) on the basis that a source was given, but no proof of the license under which it was uploaded to Commons. However, the source website actually provides this information for each of these images. For example, if you look at this image on the museum's collection portal, you will first see the image that was uploaded, then a short description in Dutch and immediately below that, in the right hand corner, a link to "Meer informatie" (More information). If you check that, you will get further information on the image, including, at the end, a copyright notice which is given as CC-BY. Would this be enough proof of copyright for the image to be undeleted, or would an OTRS notice still be necessary?

Best, --AWossink (WMNL) (talk) 10:57, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

@AWossink: Didn't quite make it easy to find... Especially with the copyright notice at the bottom (would have been a better place!) I've restored all but two images, and I've added a license review, so it cannot happen again. The two odd images, give me a login page and I cannot verify the data. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:34, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! I've asked about the two remaining images, but waiting for a response. I agree that the license information could have been more prominently displayed. I'll be in touch with them to see how we can avoid situations like this in the future. Anyway, thanks again for resolving this! Best, --AWossink (WMNL) (talk) 07:24, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Adding a photo of Blaine Higgs

Hi there - I am the author of the photo of Blaine Higgs that was apparently deleted from the Commons earlier this month by you. Can you please let me know what the problem was with that photo? I believe I followed all the rules about posting it and giving permission for it to be used. The election is just two days away and I would appreciate it if the photo would be reinstated on the page. Kbowden897! (talk) 17:18, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kbowden897!: The deletion request was posted on 17:37, 12 July 2018 at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Blaine Higgs Leader, Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick.jpg, and at the same time a message was posted to your talk page. I also see an earlier message, showing that another editor has some concern about it. As there is a backlog on deletions, it did not get deleted for some 6 weeks, rather than 7 days, and was still unopposed. I agree with the nominator that the image quality is rather poor for a Nikon, and I note the image (abet smaller) can easily be found on the internet. I think you need to request undeletion at COM:UDR to allow interested parties a chance to comment. You might have to follow the original poster's comment of going to COM:CONSENT, where you could send in the original raw camera picture, with full EXIF to show ownership. @RicHard-59: That's fine Ronhjones  (Talk) 13:50, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello Ronhjones, sorry for the trouble, but I don't understand your deleting. Didn't you see, that there is an OTRS-permission for this picture? I even entered the ticket number and you have OTRS access. Why did you delete the picture anyway, instead of editing the permission? Greetings -- Ra'ike T C 05:38, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

@Ra'ike: Missed the small ticket number. The "OTRS pending" template puts up a large automatic "no permission" template after a fixed time has passed, one needs to change it to an "OTRS received" template to stop that happening. The "PermissionOTRS" Gadget makes it easy to change templates. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:53, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hello Ronhjones, thank you for restoring the image and correcting the template. I have to admit, that I didn't know this template, because I have never needed it before ;-) Greetings -- Ra'ike T C 19:05, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
@Ra'ike: The "OTRS pending" template uses this sub-page (Template:OTRS_pending/backlog) to decide on when to put up the deletion banner - but that is the English version, looks like the German permission queue is even slower. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:43, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

File:CasildaCundumi.jpg

Hello Ronjhones. I've downloaded the file since the address i've provided, but I don't have any permission of the author, and I don't have any way to contact him (there aren't any contact address in the webpage) So what I can do? Choose other file or? I hope you can help me. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cristianjhernandezs (talk • contribs) 13:37, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

@Cristianjhernandezs: OK, I've looked at the link with Google Translate - correct me if I am wrong - it says she was born in 1823, looking at it, she can't be much more than 45? That would put the image date at before 1870? So I've put in a PD-old-assumed - so long as the image is pre 1897, all is OK. Had the image been later and you could not contact the author, then we would not be able to keep it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:04, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of a picture I own

Hello. I had recently added a picture to Wikimedia commons as part of a page regarding an Israeli tennis player. You deleted it claiming there's no source, but I specifically wrote that the picture was given by the family (his daughter gave me the picture and asked to add it to his Wiki page). The picture is not published anywhere, but it belongs to his family and they wanted it to be on his page. Now I can't upload it again because of your deletion. I don't know what to do to overwrite your change - how do I fix this?

the picture: קובץ:ישראל פולני.jpg

Permissions can be done at COM:CONSENT by the copyright holder, do quote the file name, and when the permission is validated, then the OTRS team will undelete the image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:26, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Files tagged for deletion

In 2012 I uploaded a group of files from the Nesconset fire department, for which I was e-mailed permission by the photigrapher. I copied the email to the talk pages of the files, and this appears to have been acceptable for 6 years. Why has this suddenly changed? Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 20:34, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

@Pbsouthwood: The pages never got properly "licensed reviewed" as external sourced images. One does not expect permission on talk pages (it wouldn't be allowed now). I see you are tidying up the pages. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:48, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes, things tend to change. Getting permissions is now just not worth the hassle. I now tell people who offer me images they must upload themselves, so most of the time the stuff just never gets uploaded. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 20:55, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

On images uploaded by User_talk:Abhinav_paulite

So the images filed for missing permissions, they are all released in the public domain by the school. What changes do I have to make to reflect that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhinav paulite (talk • contribs) 19:00, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

@Abhinav paulite: The license must be specified, as the standard Facebook license is not sufficient. For example File:The St. Paul's School, Darjeeling Cricket Team in 1972.jpg links to https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152771932768295&set=a.10151073994393295&type=1&theater - the text there is "The St Paul's School Darjeeling Cricket Team in 1972 which won the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Shield. — with Sanjay Jaipuria, Vijay Kumar Prasad, Sushant Banerjee and 19 others." - it needs to have "CC-BY-SA-4.0" added to that text. Otherwise you will have to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:25, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Derivative work

Hello Ronjhones, I got a warning about deleting File: Misko-obrazovanje 4.9.18.png end File: Misko-prof-1 A3 200pix.png. These files contain images that are my personal documents during schooling, the cover page of my papers and my professor's pictures. It's all my work. I did not use anybody's works. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gmitrovicni (talk • contribs) 10:37, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

@Gmitrovicni: Multi-image pages are a pain. You need to make a list on the page as to where each image comes from, and their license (if different from the overall license). Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:03, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

You wrote “ where each image comes from”. I tell you again: All images in a common pictures I made mayself. These are my books, my publications in magazines, my collections of works, my official documents, my doctoral students and my professors. There are no licenses for the listed things. You decide now. Gmitrovicni (talk) 11:51, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

@Gmitrovicni: Some of those magazines will be set to "All Rights Reserved" by the publisher (e.g. Electronic Letters - http://digital-library.theiet.org/copyrights-and-permissions), You will need to work with the OTRS team to keep these images. Please go to COM:OTRS. If you send in an e-mail then let me know and I will adjust the images to show that permission is being done by the OTRS team. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:01, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, now I understand what is the problem. I'm a beginner at Vikipedia, for me this is very complicated and I do not know howe to provide the necessary permissions.Gmitrovi cni (talk) 09:52, 30 September 2018 (UTC)'

Maps of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo of Brazil

@Ronhjones: This map is to be used within the wikidata project in reference items relative to this map image. ̴̴These images are from geography study books used in Brazil by students. Ana Gauna (talk) 17:31, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

@Amgauna: Commons needs evidence that the maps have a suitable license - if they are from books then it is very unlikely that they will have one. You could ask at COM:VPC, but I can't see anything in those sources that would allow them here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:49, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I thought I'd better bring this to your attention. It's taken from this video, about 0.25 from the beginning; I don't see any evidence of an acceptable licence. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:03, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Ronhjones/Adds.js

Hi Ronhjones, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Ronhjones/Adds.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 51 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Hi Ronhjones, as it concerns the same person's Wikipedia article and pictures, in order not to describe the entire problem again, please look to my post at User talk:Jcb#Deletion of "File:Uli Snare sw.jpg". Hi Ronhjones , and thanks for your intervention - both pictures have re-appeared at least at Wikimedia, while they have vanished before, as if I've never uploaded them. At the moment, however, another template in German shows up below them, saying that referring OTRS mails have arrived, but I should be patient until they will be processed. Ok, what should, or can I do in the meantime in order to avoid another deletion? Just wait? And once the OTRS procedure is completed, insert the pictures once more? Greetings --Qniemiec (talk) 11:07, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

File: Geoff L. Duncan.jpg

Please check the upload from Flickr and the copyright code before marking this as spam. Let me know if those do not add up and I will get what is needed to keep the photo up. Lagdunc3 (talk) 22:53, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

@Lagdunc3: Who said "spam"? I didn't - I said it was Flickrwashed, which it is. The file was uploaded here at 15:05, 30 July 2018 as File:GeoffDuncan2018.jpg and deleted as a copyright violation as it was found elsewhere on the internet. We only allow an image to be uploaded once, after that one should use COM:UDR to rquest undeletion - new uploads are automatically flagged if they are a re-upload. Since the Flickr image was uploaded to Flickr on September 12, the Flickr image, being newer, cannot be the original source, as is therefore regarded as an illegal copy - we cannot use that image. You need to find the original image and get the copyright holder to got to COM:CONSENT to donate the copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:58, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

File:Zoll Medical Corporation logo.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

License query

File:Lord Sinha.jpg states that it is an official government portrait and a US work from before 1923. It is neither, and I don't think we have any idea when it was first published because it comes from a massive collection of negatives once belonging to the photography firm of Bassano which include other views of this very same person. Is it a deletion job or can the license be modified? - Sitush (talk) 18:02, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Ah, I thought this was familiar. I nominated a bunch of similar uploads by the same contributor in August. They've cleared their talk page but see this version. - Sitush (talk) 18:08, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

@Sitush: DR notice should not have been removed (DR is still active, notice or not). PD-US is very wrong. Commented on DR page. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:56, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. After all these years, I still struggle to work out what is appropriate here. I would imagine that the same problem applies to all the other active DRs listed on their page, most of which I recognise as being notifications from me. - Sitush (talk) 05:18, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ronhjones I have been asked by CMI Corporation to include these images on the Wikipedia Page for the same Guatemalan business. I see it has been removed before. CMI owns the images used in the collage, as you can see on their site https://www.cmi.co These have also been used several times by the Guatemalan media. Can the images be undeleted? Thak your for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IvanDDI (talk • contribs) 21:28, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

@IvanDDI: We have no way of validating any claims of copyright ownership within these pages - editors are effectively anonymous. Therefore the copyright holder needs to go to COM:CONSENT. Once the OTRS team have validated the permission then they will undelete the images. Do remember that any image hosted here is free for re-use for any purpose including commercial - we often find companies are reluctant to give such a free permission. Hi, Ronhjones,

Valts Kleins, the author and the Copyright holder of the File:Vija_Beinerte.jpg that was published and then deleted from my Wiki page, has sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org a Copyrights permission letter. The registration Ticket#: 2018092010006639. According to the answer that he has received, the Wiki team should put the image back. Unfortunately, it has not been done yet. I would appreciate it if you returned the first published image back to my Wiki page. You can find it attached to my message as well as to the message sent by Valts Kleins. Hi mr. Ronhjones. I want to change the image for another one of my own work, but I can not. I already downloaded the file, but it did not save as it. Renan Rabbit (talk) 19:14, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

@Renan Rabbit: You seem to be struggling with File:Eleições Governador SP 2018 Primeiro Turno.png. Do remember that when you upload a new image it does not show - Your PC does not know there is a new image and uses a cached image on your hard drive. You must refresh the page. The link given goes to a page (http://especiais.g1.globo.com/sp/sao-paulo/eleicoes/2018/apuracao-estado-governador/1-turno/) that says "© Copyright 2000-2017 Globo Comunicação e Participações SA", so unlikely we can use it. Your other maps look like the same map but re-coloured - if so it still leaves "Globo Comunicação e Participações SA" with the copyright. If it's a new base map, we need the link to the base map to show it's a free image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:24, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

File deleted by error

Hallo, Ronhjones. Recently you deleted the file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IEM_-_two-position_earphone.gif for violation of rights. I already presented once evidences (sent message from corporate e-mail ****@necktec.com) to the previous admin who made the same. All *.gif 's were restaured and remained good for several months. I am one of our startup directors and WearablesLove is my nic here at Wiki. Please cancel the deletion and restaure pictures in both russian and english Wiki articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WearablesLover (talk • contribs) 16:33, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

@WearablesLover: The log says 3 May 2018 Túrelio restored page File:IEM - two-position earphone.gif (2 revisions and 1 file) (temp-restored as permission underway). User:Túrelio also added the needed "OTRS pending" template for you - I assume you told him that the permission e-mail was being sent. After a fixed time (at this time it was 136 days) the "OTRS pending" template automatically turns into a "No permission" template, as it shows that there is no e-mail at OTRS (it would have been processed by then, had it arrived) - the image is then deleted within the next 7 days - it was actually 10 days, we were a bit behind then. If the OTRS team ever gets an e-mail and validate the permission, then they can undelete the image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:21, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Thank you for the explanation. May be i have sent the e-mail incorrectly. John Theobald Milne Picture

Hello, Ronhjones. You have flagged an issue with the picture. We hold a copy of the photograph at Abingdon School, the original however is held at Radley School. I assumed it was okay to upload because the author is unknown and it is over 100 years old. If this is not the case please advise. Many thanks for your help. Racingmanager (talk) 07:30, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

@Racingmanager: You cannot claim "This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or less." if you don't know the author. Then I think you are stuck with {{PD-old-assumed}}, and it may not be old enough for that. Ronhjones  (Talk) 13:55, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Sorry can you clarify. Do I have to put the {{PD-old-assumed}} tag somewhere on the file information?. I don't know where to add it or maybe I don't. Please advise, many thanks. Racingmanager (talk) 09:50, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

@Racingmanager: In the file description page you have put {{PD-old-70-1923}}. That need changing - BUT I doubt if you can use {{PD-old-assumed}}, as the photo would have to be pre-1898 - we use 120 years when the author is unknown. Ronhjones  (Talk) 13:39, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Logo Pousadas of Portugal

Hello Ronjhones, hope you are well and thanks for your help. Please don't delete the File:Logo-Pousadas-Portugal.png. I work in the digital marketing department of Pestana Hotel Group and it's super important that the logo of this brand it's updated. The first version of it was with no margin, that's why I asked to change it. Let me know what can I do. Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PA Pestana (talk • contribs) 16:27, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

@PA Pestana: If you want to keep the copyright statement of {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} then you will have to go to COM:CONSENT to donate the permission, and that does takes some time. In this case, I would suggest you change the license to {{PD-textlogo}}, as it is a simple logo, then it can stay. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:36, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Mark Pincus Picture

Hi there! I just noticed that a photo I uploaded on March 25, 2017 was deleted on August 13, 2018. This is the URL: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mark_Pincus_Zynga_Founder.jpg. I am sure a permission letter was sent to Conmmons from a representative of Mark Pincus on March 23, 2017 explaining that Zynga is the sole owner and creator of the photo and holds the exclusive copyright, and allows the photo to be on Commons. Can you please explain what the next step is to have the picture placed back up on Commons so that it can be placed on Mark Pincus' Wikipedia article? Thanks so much, I appreciate your spending time on this.Emily Maine (talk) 07:06, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

@Emily Maine: After a fixed time (at this time it was 136 days) the "OTRS pending" template automatically turns into a "No permission" template. There was an e-mail, the sender failed to answer the questions sent back on the 19th June. Once the permission is sorted then the OTRS team will undelete. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:01, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your quick response. How can Mark Pincus or his representative find the email that was sent on 19 June; ie. what would be in the subject-bar? Or is it enough to just resend the original permission letter? I really appreciate your help. Thanks again. Emily Maine (talk) 07:41, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
@Emily Maine: I'll go to OTRS now and re-send it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:02, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Albania

Hi! Regarding your edits like [1] and [2]: there is freedom of panorama in Albania, so pictures of derivative work in public space are no problem. --Albinfo (talk) 15:58, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

@Albinfo: Thanks. You are correct. That's rather unusual - most countries that have FoP, only allow it for 3D works and exclude 2D items (paintings, drawings, etc.). I've put the Albanian FoP template on the page. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:17, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Katcher

That picture of sculptures by Katcher was originally uploaded to enwiki by Katcher (for his now-deleted autobiography). It is a compilation of photos he took of his own sculptures. I moved them to Commons because they are pretty sculptures. DS (talk) 20:57, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

@DragonflySixtyseven: OK, but don't be surprised if someone else tags it. Commons is not so believing in identity claims as en-wiki Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:17, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

AnaSofia.png and others

Hello Ronhjones.

I just saw that some images that I uploaded some time ago have some adverts made by you about the licenses. I uploaded all these images from the Vimeo channel of Academia Portuguesa de Cinema, the portuguese pictures academy. In the link for Vimeo, that I provided for each image, there is a botton called "More", just below the video, and in the license field there is the icon of the license Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0), that is a license that is used for cultural uses. If this isn't enough, I simply don't know what to do, since I thought that the disponiblization of the video with the Commons license was enough. I'm sorry if I did something wrong. --DanielFreitas (talk) 17:26, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

@DanielFreitas: Found it - they don't make it easy do they! Not forgetting they put "TM + © 2018 Vimeo, Inc. All rights reserved." at the bottom of the page. Leave it with me, I'll sort it out. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:29, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Derivative image of Regiment Vrystaat

Hi Ron. thanks for your concern. So some background is needed. This is an emblem of the apartheid ERA defence force of South Africa. no design from that era was copyrighted. All new design for the new south African National Defence Force post 1994 have received copyright. Therefore no issue here as these symbols are historically redundant. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 41.114.65.39 (talk) 18:49, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Than that information must be added to the file page and the correct license used from COM:TAG Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:34, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

I've uploaded the files in accordance with advice I've received in email [Ticket#2018051310006507]. "you may add a notice on your website's home page stating something to the effect that "This website's content has been published under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 license" (or a less restrictive Creative Commons license, if for some reason you prefer) and reply to this email saying you have done so and linking to where we can see the notice." I did so (http://miastojestnasze.org/zdjecia/). @Niegodzisie: After an image has been deleted, you should ask for undeletion at COM:UDR, and not re-upload under a new name. I have undeleted the original images and added the permission link. The description page might need a tidy up.
Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:08, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Thank you. Can you delete this "last warning"? As you can see, I had no bad intentions, just lack of understanding of the procedures. Niegodzisie (talk) 08:55, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Tehmina Durrani article jgp

Dear Ron,

The Tehmina with Edhi sb.jpg image was removed by Commons. I know it was deleted before but I added it through Commons this time adding a note with a link to a Facebook post where the photographer who had taken the photo mentions this. I don't know what to do in this case, please advise before I make an undeletion request. The photo I uploaded was taken by Shahnaz Minallah. I have her permission in email along with the eye witnesses who confess that she took the photo. I know it is now available now on the internet in several places, as well as social media. I am not sure exactly what to do, whether I should upload it directly into article or make undeletion request. I don't want this removed again, so want to make sure I follow correct process this time, as I thought I was doing right thing last time as well. It's very confusing while I read the various topics and conflicting info. Thanks, Vinita

@Vinita pande: You are supposed to upload once, then (if deleted) go to COM:UDR to request undeletion. Re-uploads are automatically tagged by the system. I did have a quick peak at https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153811758901935&set=a.10151398719411935&type=3&theater - there is no permission statement there. I think you might need to use COM:CONSENT - but they will not accept a forwarded e-mail, it has to come from the copyright holder direct. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:59, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

I have an email from Shahnaz with the photo. I can't put an email in Wiki. She is willing to send the email to anyone. So I will try to figure out what to do. Again, this is very difficult and complicated. If you can help with who to have her send the email with photo to as she's not tech savy let me know. Thanks!

@Vinita pande: e-mail address is on the COM:CONSENT page - top of the grey box. It varies somewhat, depending on which language setting you are using. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:29, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

@Ron Shahnaz has sent the email using the COM:CONSENT generated email along with the photo. How will I know it has been approved? And how will I then be able to refer or use it in the article? Thanks so much for your help!

@Vinita pande: The person e-mailing the permission will get an auto-reply to show it has been received. The OTRS team will sort everything out, once they are happy, they will undelete the image and add a special ticket banner to the page. Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:31, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Dear Ronhjones, You deleted this file last night after administrators and I settled the issue administrator's created about the author/licensees rights. @Minkov8: wiki-bg admins have no authority on commons. I will put it up for a deletion request instead - you will have to convince the admins HERE Ronhjones  (Talk) 13:22, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

@Ronhjones. OK, I did that as you suggested above. Can you clean the file page now from any red boxes? Thanks --Minkov8 (talk) 15:10, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
@Minkov8: I have tidied the page up. I found your e-mail ticket number and put on page to show it's in the queue. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:14, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

The date on the upload is July 30, meaning it's been more than 30 days. The image was just readded to his article. Is it valid or should it be deleted? Muboshgu (talk) 19:04, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

@Muboshgu: That would be the ideal, sadly, there are not enough agents to handle the requests. The baclog shows at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard, so we wait for 7 days + backlog, not a great situation, I'm afraid. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:12, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
Duly noted. I don't know much about OTRS but I do understand backlogs. I'll remove the image from the en wiki page for now. Muboshgu (talk) 19:24, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

License revision

Hi. I am not really sure I understand all the technicalities here on Commons (I just upload from time to time some image or gif I created as CC0), but I am puzzled by the "Flickr review" you put on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lotka-Volterra_orbits.png as I have never used Flickr in my life and the image was originally published on Twitter. I assume it was a mistake, but I guess you are the only one who can sort that out. Thanks Berto (talk) 18:05, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Ooops! Pressed wrong tag. Many thanks. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:09, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Flickr license reviews

Hi! I noticed you added {{flickrreview}} on some of my uploads that were cropped from images transferred from Flickr and already reviewed by the Flickr bot. I'm using Flickr2Commons to transfer the image and then the Crop Tool to crop. For example, today I uploaded this image and the Flickr bot verified the license, and after that I cropped it, but the crop doesn't have the {{flickrreview}} tag. Is this OK? Should I do something else to save you the additional work? // sikander { talk } 17:49, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

@Sikander: One never knows the future of any image. I have seen images where an original large one has gone, and one cannot guarantee the Flickr page will remain forever. So I add the review tag, which will safeguard it's future. It's not difficult to add - I have a script User:Ronhjones/Adds.js, gives me an extra tab (I use monobook) called "flickrdone", it adds the text, with the date, and saves the page in one click. You can use the flickr bot for a crop, but the bot will fail on the image compare, and leave it for manual check. I'm working my way through User:RonBot/FlickrSource - there are mainly crops left, but there is no rush. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:18, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
OK, good to know that it is not too time-consuming. Thank you for adding the review tags to the crops. // sikander { talk } 18:26, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I am the original designer of this poster. Which origin names should I insert? thank you. --Chrigel71 (talk) 17:31, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

@Chrigel71: Your picture has lots of different items, which you did not design. We need a verifiable link to a source of each one to show that it is free for re-use under commons licencing, I doubt if they all are, and I would say, that it will not be a simple task. Composite images can be a nightmare here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your Answer. We received the logos from our sponsors and printed a poster.
What does it look like when I take pictures with the camera of the poster? Just like here? -Chrigel71 (talk) 18:04, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
@Chrigel71: Getting the logo is one thing, I doubt if they grant you to be able to put them up for commercial re-use (as we do here). As for the other pic - see COM:DM - basically if you can theoretically blur our the poster (and it only a very small part of the image), without losing the picture content then de minimis will apply. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:35, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! I made a new version without the logos, just our own and Michelin and Ace Cafe, is that any better? -Chrigel71 (talk) 18:41, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
@Chrigel71: If you have permission to use Michelin, Ace Cafe, and Grizzly Race Team, then you need to use COM:CONSENT (and add {{subst:OP}} to the image page) to get the OTRS team to verify the permissons. We cannot verify users here, so the Grizzly Race Team logo will need to have explicit permission for the OTRS team to validate. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:00, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of "File:PlastikPortrait 2.jpg" again

Hi Ronhjones, as you maybe remember, thanks to your intervention the above mentioned picture as well as "File:Uli Snare sw.jpg", which both were uploaded by me for the Wikipedia article w:de:Ulrich Moritz (Musiker) in May and deleted because of OTRS timeout in September, eventually reappeared within Wikimedia Commons, but are still pending to be finally accepted and "blessed" by the German OTRS team. With the result that I still hesitate to reinclude the pictures to the mentioned article. Additionally, in the meantime, I'm preparing another new Wikipedia article, and to avoid the problem encountered with the Uli Moritz photos: is it possible to omit that utterly "sleepy" German OTRS team, and to send the permissions to the English OTRS team instead? This might accelerate the entire permission process remarkably, as I hope. What's your advice? Greetings --Qniemiec (talk) 15:39, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

@Qniemiec: You can send in any language you like. Just pick the English version on COM:CONSENT, and use the template and the e-mail shown. You will then get the backlog that is shown at COM:OTRSN, (and used in the template!) Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:26, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for that advice which should speed up the procedure next time I'll need it. Greetings, --Qniemiec (talk) 21:41, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello, this (title name) is the first of 7 pictures that I re-uploaded after initial deletion and you marked. When I uploaded them for the first time, I passed a one week deadline to provide proof from the artist herself to show, that I have the right and she allowed me the uploads. That’s why I figured it was easier to re-upload all 7 files as they had already been deleted. I understand that this is problematic. As for the solution: I sent an email to permission@wiki (2287-e97c789db77a56c7), I posted information in the discussion to the article concerning all deleted files. My question: is there something I can send to you in order to speed up the process of undeleting the respective files?

Thank you in advance and best regards Paul Schrippchen (talk) 23:06, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

@Schrippchen: Re-uploads gets automatically flagged up, so it's often easier to get the original file (File:Rim-ram-rum, 1988-98.png) undeleted and annotated. I did find the ticket (2018102810004767), and I see (via Google Translate!) that it lists some other files - some deleted and some tagged for deletion. I've sorted all those out as well. So you now have the following files waiting for the German OTRS...
  1. File:Rim-ram-rum, 1988-98, mixed media on canvas,140x160cm.png
  2. File:Kopie von 1+1+1=1, Lichtinstallation, zur Ökomenischen Kirchen Tag.jpg
  3. File:Expo 2000 in Hannover – Marienfenster im Christus-Pavillon.jpg
  4. File:Superweib im Märchenwald.Werkgruppe Amazonen Malerei auf Nessel, 160x 130, 2012.jpg
  5. File:Simon-Petrus Kirche in Bremen-Habenhausen.png
  6. File:Hella De Santarossa (Mitte), Hausbesetzung mit J. Beuys.png
  7. File:2013 Restaurierung des Bilfries im Reichstag,Fraktionsraum der SPD.jpg
  8. File:Ausstellungsplakat Fahrradbilder.jpg
  9. File:Performance „Rogenhaut“, 1984.png
  10. File:Expo 2000, Marienfenster, Hella Santarossa .png
If I've missed any out - then let me know. Now important two items
(A) After the current backlog (on the day in the future, not today's backlog - currently 166 days) + 7 days, the "OTRS received" template turns into a "no permission" template. I know the German OTRS queue has been very slow, so if the backlog runs out, I suggest a note on COM:OTRSN to make sure it gets sorted on time.
(B) I see you are suggestion forwarding e-mails from the artist - don't bother, OTRS will not accept forwarded e-mails, they must come direct from the artist. If you can get them to send in permission - please put [Ticket#2018102810004767] in the subject line to keep all the e-mails together.
Hope that helps. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:11, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Professeur Nathalie Ros.jpg

Hello, you have deleted this image I have uploaded as an illustration in my project of contribution "Nathalie Ros" because you have found it also on a website (Koufa Foundation) and thought there was a copyright violation. I have taken this picture myself and I offered it to Nathalie Ros in order for her to use it in her CV; I am the author and not Koufa Foundation that has no copyright on this image. Could you restaure the picture because there is no legal reason to delete it, nobody except myself can use it, and if I cannot use it who could do it?

I am a new user of wiki and I don't know what to do; how can I proof that what I tell you is true? Please, could you be so kind to explain me what to do if you cannot restaure the picture. Best regards and thank you for your attention --Lagrimardière (talk) 17:10, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

@Lagrimardière: Sadly, never publish anything to the internet, before uploading here - or it will always be regarded as an illegal copy (which there are many hundreds every day). Now you probably need to go to COM:CONSENT. Unfortunately your problem is going to be able to prove you own the photo, when http://www.koufafoundation.org/professor-nathalie-ros-curriculum-vitae/ says "© 2018 Koufa Foundation. All rights reserved". Maybe you have a bigger version? - The EXIF data suggests the last edit was PhotoShop. If you have a raw camera version (which is bigger) then that could prove useful as the Koufa is a dead copy of the one uploaded here - if so, you could either use that as evidence of ownership at COM:CONSENT or upload it here if you wish, then call the File:Professeur Nathalie Ros.jpg a derivative of the bigger one. Hope that makes sense. Do --Lagrimardière (talk) 09:01, 1 November 2018 (UTC)come back if you need any more help.Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:39, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello! And thanks a lot for your help and advices. Obviously I have the raw camera version, but it is a collective picture with 3 other persons, one of them is a public personality. I have worked on this image in order to edit the picture of Nathalie Ros. So I think I can prove what I say, but I am not sure I would be able to do it because I cannot use the collective picture in order to illustrate my contribution on Nathalie Ros so I assume I cannot upload it... I am a beginner so maybe I have not well understand the process you suggest me. Do you think it could be a solution to contact Koufa Foundation and ask them to remove the picture or better the undue copyright? If you could help me again I would be grateful. Have a nice day!--Lagrimardière (talk) 09:01, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

@Lagrimardière: Use the COM:CONSENT option and include the camera file in the e-mail to show ownership. Anything sent to the OTRS team is strictly private. Let me know when you have sent the e-mail, and I'll look for it. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:51, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Many thanks for your help. If you tell me that it will stay private (one of the 3 other people is a former french minister) I will do it; obviously I will inform you when it will be done. Your kindness and help are fully appreciated! Best regards.--Lagrimardière (talk) 18:32, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello, this message to inform you that I have not forgotten I have to send you the raw picture, but I have published my article and now I have to work in order to better my contribution because I have received comments from an expert contributor. So the picture is no longer my priority; I have to look for more secondary sources, external and internal links, and redraft my text, etc... I hope I will be able to solve all these problems quickly and come back to you. Many thanks and have a nice week end. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lagrimardière (talk • contribs) 19:23, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

You marked this for deletion because of lack of license. It was uploaded using the flickr2commons plugin. The license is on the flickr page, and if i'm not mistaken that plugin won't allow you to upload the image unless it has the correct license. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2001:569:BDD1:C500:9831:AA76:9F0D:22DE (talk) 04:06, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

FoP infoboards

Hi. The depicted board falls clearly under FoP. It is not useful to mark it with {{Dw no source since}}. Information about location of the work is given and information about original authors was not removed from the board in the photo. If you want engage in labeling files, you should acquaint with local law. Generally, it is not appropriate to label all exterior files from FoP countries with FoP templates, or to require such templates, if the public and permanent location of the subject is apparent from its character. --ŠJů (talk) 18:20, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

How is it possible to publish google earth images. From google there "Fair use" permissions available. With which commons licence should these images published?

Consider

https://www.google.com/permissions/geoguidelines/ Apart from any license granted to you by Google, your use of the content may be acceptable under principles of "fair use." Fair use is a concept under copyright law in the U.S. that, generally speaking, permits you to use a copyrighted work in certain ways without obtaining a license from the copyright holder.

There are similar, although generally more limited, concepts in other countries' copyright laws, including a concept known as "fair dealing" in a number of countries. Google can’t tell you if your use of the content from our products would be fair use or would be considered fair dealing; these are legal analyses that depend on all of the specific facts of your proposed use. We suggest you speak with an attorney if you have questions regarding fair use of copyrighted works.

All uses of the content must provide attribution to both Google and our data providers. We require clear, visible attribution when the content is shown. You may not move the attribution to the end credits or fade it out after a few seconds.

https://www.google.com/permissions/geoguidelines/attr-guide/ All uses of Google Maps and Google Earth content must provide attribution to both Google and our data providers. We do not approve of any use of content without proper attribution, in any circumstance. We require attribution when the content is shown. Requests for exceptions will not be answered or granted. --Kvelldulf (talk) 18:04, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

@Kvelldulf: Google Maps / Google Earth can never be used on commons - we do not allow "fair use" images here. It is possible that it might be allowed on your local wiki m:NFC Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:24, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

The APX photo

Hi! You deleted a photo of the APX group: (File:The APX performing at Center Stage Atlanta 2.jpg ). It was uploaded by the photographer herself, how can she prove it is hers? - Jjanhone (talk) 17:29, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

@Jjanhone: File:The APX performing at Center Stage Atlanta 2.jpg is 960 × 640 in size and was uploaded by user:Lourdesukari at 14:55, 31 October 2018. It was also at File:The APX at Center Stage Atlanta.jpg at a much larger size of 5,121 × 3,414 and claimed own work by User:Synthsoul, and it can be found in several places on the internet - including the full size. The first version was deleted by user:Jcb at 10:31, 25 October 2018. So someone is not telling the truth - it can't have two owners! COM:CONSENT is the only option, anything uploaded now is likely to result in a speedy deletion. OTRS will need the e-mail to come from the domain associated with the photographer shown in the EXIF in the large image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:40, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

William Michael Boyle

Hello. As I noted in response to the request for the speedy deletion of this image, I believe that request was a misunderstanding. The user who made the request believed there was a copyright violation, but I noted that the site that was supposedly violated (booknode.com) was not the copyright holder. In fact, anybody can freely add photos to that site or delete them. From what I can see, it was probably the copyright holder who uploaded the photo, and the request for speedy deletion came in haste (21 minutes after uploading) -- probably before the Commons permissioning took full effect. What can be done a) to reverse this deletion and b) to have the user making these requests do some proper investigation before taking action? Rory1262 (talk) 20:16, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

@Rory1262: We do not validate external sites. If they put up an images, then we have to assume they have permission. https://www.images-booknode.com/author_picture/990/full/william-boyle-989620.jpg is dated 09 September 2018, 08:22:30, and File:William Michael Boyle press photo.jpg is dated 16:22, 4 November 2018. If images are put up on external sites, and do not show evidence of permission then we always assume they have been copied from the web site. We have no system of validating the user (they are all effectively anonymous) on commons. The only system is to use COM:CONSENT, and remember to never upload any image elsewhere first, if you want it here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:44, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
I guess we'll just have to see if my belief is correct, that the true copyright holder was acting through the correct channel here and will re-upload in due course. Rory1262 (talk) 20:51, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
@Rory1262: They should not re-upload. We only allow uploading once. They need to go to COM:UDR Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:54, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
Understood. Hope it'll work out, but I view this as an avoidable mistake on the original requester's part. Rory1262 (talk) 20:58, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
@Rory1262: We have hundreds of editors who would have done exactly the same - we delete many hundreds of images every day because there is an earlier copy somewhere on the internet. There are no "maybes" with copyright, we have to be as correct as possible, or the site will not exist. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:01, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ronhjones, was there a backlog page somewhere you were working off of when you tagged File:2012 VT - UVA - Frank Beamer.jpg - something that lists images that are uploaded that have a flickr link, but no flickrreview template? (I honestly didn't even notice that the flickr template wasn't there - I (mistakenly, apparently) thought that CropTool would automatically put the flickr review template there and that was one of the reasons for using it.) --B (talk) 22:09, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

@Nevatovol: English Wikipedia allows non-free images (there are over 600,000 of them). These are copyright images, used under the U.S. Fair Use policy, they cannot be uploaded to commons, as we do not allow fair-use images here. See m:NFC to see if your local Wikipedia can host such an image.

Baude Cordier - Codex Chantilly

Hello, could you please explain me in a simple way what is wrong with this upload?

--Deputydroopy (talk) 18:51, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@Deputydroopy: See COM:DW. It's a picture of a book. There is no data about the book, to show the copyright status of the book. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:58, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

There is no copyright on these "books", it could if I had taken pictures of a facsimile but all these sources are free ressources everyone may find on the net, for example https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8449045j/f5.image Is this still wrong? --Deputydroopy (talk) 19:08, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@Deputydroopy: It's up to the uploader to show the copyright situation (and web links where appropriate) of each of the documents and use the correct license from COM:TAG for them (at the moment, you appear to be claiming the copyright...), not up to other editors to search the web for them. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:18, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Is this right if for this example I put gallica.bnf.fr in the source field? --Deputydroopy (talk) 19:20, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Some pictures I have had for long may be hard to identify, what will happen if it stands as it is? --Deputydroopy (talk) 19:22, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@Deputydroopy: gallica links can work. I know that if one clicks the "i" button, it will show the copyright status. - e.g. the link above shows "Rights : public domain". If you cannot show their age (should be over 120 years old), OR their author (should be 70 years post author's death) OR their copyright status, then likely to be deleted in 7 days - we will not guess on copyright status. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:46, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, actually I was looking what was the status of this one https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Roman_de_Fauvel.jpg?uselang=fr , I will do that, have a nice day (or night) --Deputydroopy (talk) 19:53, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

I did it for this upload https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lo_lume_vostro.jpg but what about the red squared banner? --Deputydroopy (talk) 19:59, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

That page looks OK. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:27, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi, could you add a source for the date you added to this image please? Thanks -- (talk) 22:51, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@: en:Wikipedia:Teahouse#Hannah_Winbolt_article. I told her it might be regarded as weak. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:01, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
Okay. I'll take out the date. Unfortunately I'm considering a deletion request due to a lack of evidence to support the licensing. The uploader may want to re-upload on Wikipedia, where presumably it can stay on fair use grounds. -- (talk) 17:10, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
@: OK, en-wiki fair use should work (once reduced - my bot will soon find it :-) ) as the person died in 1928. She is very new, I may have to help her with the fair use setup. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:44, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/323508509 There is actually another copy, freely licensed by the Thailand Ministry of Defense's Drug Rehabilitation Center and Career Training Schools photostream at https://www.flickr.com/photos/157145480@N04/43090777230 and that photostream shows several photos that include this person. The photostream contains several duplicates of which most are low resolution images that seem to be photographs or scans of hardcopy photos, but other digital photos are of a higher resolution. The photostream this image came from, which may be her personal user account, shows several of the identical images as those by the Thailand Ministry of Defense's Drug Rehabilitation Center and Career Training Schools.
