The Strange Occurrence of Ukiyo Matabei and his Masterpieces Ukiyo matabei meiga no kidoku 浮世又平名画の奇特 vertical ōban diptych published 1853.6 by Koshimuraya Heisuke.
- This diptych is based on a kabuki play about Ukiyo Matabei, who seems to based on the painter Iwasa Matabei (1578-1650) In the Edo period, Iwasa Matabei was credited with creating the painting styles of Ōtsu-e and ukiyo-e. His brush strokes were supposed to be so powerful that the subjects of the paintings could come alive.
- Ukiyo Matabei in the right sheet holding a brush was played by Ichikawa Kodanji IV. The other actors in the right sheet are Asao Okuyama IV; Arashi Kangorō II; Nakamura Kantarō I and Sakata Sajūrō II.
- The actors in the left sheet are Seki Utasuke 関歌助; Ichikawa Hirogorō I; Nakayama Bungorō II; Nakayama Ichizō I; Arashi Otokichi III 嵐音吉 and Nakamura Tsuruzō I.
