Thomas Ravenel
Thomas Ravenel was a 2014 independent candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from South Carolina.[1] On April 7, Ravenel announced that he would run for Lindsey Graham's Senate seat, if Graham won the nomination in the Republican primary on June 10, 2014, which he did.[2] Thomas Ravenel lost the general election on November 4, 2014.
Biography
Ravenel earned a bachelor of science in business administration from the Citadel and an MBA from the University of South Carolina. In 1992, he founded Ravenel Development Corporation, a commercial real estate development company.[3] In 2006, he was elected state treasurer of South Carolina but resigned in 2007 after pleading guilty to cocaine possession.[4] He also starred on the reality TV show "Southern Charm" in 2014.[3]
Southern Charm
During his time on the show "Southern Charm", Ravenel had a relationship with 21-year-old Kathryn Calhoun Dennis. Following the show's first season, it was revealed that the couple had a child together. Ravenel returned to the show for its second season, which covered his 2014 bid for U.S. Senate.[5]
