Heather Surprenant (Democratic Party) is a member of the Vermont House of Representatives, representing Windsor-4 District. She assumed office on January 4, 2023. Her current term ends on January 8, 2025.

Surprenant (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the Vermont House of Representatives to represent Windsor-4 District. She is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on August 13, 2024.[source]

On September 5, 2022, the VTDigger announced that Surprenant was leaving the Vermont Progressive Party and would register as a Democrat. She said, "...there have been limited opportunities for Progressives to be in deep leadership positions within the Legislature, regardless of who has been speaker or majority leader...This is my opportunity to still be vocal and loud and passionate, but hopefully in a way that's going to actually be listened to."[1] To learn more about state legislators who have switched political party affiliation, click here.

Biography

Heather Surprenant was raised in Randolph, Vermont. Surprenant graduated from Randolph Union High School. She earned a B.A. in international relations and human rights from Roanoke College in 2010 and a B.A. in government from Smith College in 2014. Her career experience includes working at an organic farm in California and managing the organic vegetable operation for Kiss the Cow Farm in Vermont.[2][3]
