Charlie Janssen
Charlie Janssen (Republican Party) was the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts. He assumed office on January 8, 2015. He left office on January 5, 2023.
Janssen (Republican Party) ran for re-election for Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Before becoming state auditor, Janssen was a member of the Nebraska Unicameral, representing District 15 from 2009 to December 11, 2014. He resigned in anticipation of his swearing in as Nebraska State Auditor in January 2015.[1]
Janssen was planning to run for Governor of Nebraska in the 2014 elections but withdrew from the race in late January 2014, nearly a year after confirming his bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination on February 19, 2013. As the field of candidates grew, Jansen said he did not see a clear path to victory.[2][3] Instead Janssen ran for Nebraska Auditor, securing the Republican nomination on May 13, 2014.[4] Charlie Janssen won the general election on November 4, 2014.[5]
Biography
Janssen earned his bachelor's degree from Wayne State College. His professional experience includes working as the chairman and CEO of RTG Medical. Janssen served as a Rescue Swimmer in the United States Navy.[6]
Political career
Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts (2015-2023)
Janssen served as state auditor from January 2015 to January 2023. He was elected in November 2014 to the open seat being vacated by two-term officeholder Mike Foley (R), who ran successfully for lieutenant governor in 2014.[5]
Nebraska State Senate (2009-2014)
Janssen was a member of the Nebraska Unicameral, representing District 15 from 2008 to December 11, 2014. He resigned in anticipation of his swearing in as Nebraska State Auditor in January 2015.[1]

Issues
Immigration legislation
In June 2010, a controversial piece of immigration legislation arrived on the Judiciary Committee's desk. The ordinance passed.
Late that month, Nebraska Watchdog reported that Janssen was still considering statewide legislation similar to the landmark anti-illegal immigration law in Arizona. Janssen says, ”The road ahead will not be easy. Outside interests and influences will be there at every turn, playing upon the fears of citizens.”[7]

2014
Janssen dropped out of the race for Governor of Nebraska in late January 2014 after stating that he no longer saw a clear path to victory.[3][2][8][9][10] Instead, Janssen won the Republican nomination for the race for Nebraska Auditor on May 13, 2014 against Larry Anderson.[4] The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

Janssen won re-election in the 2012 election for Nebraska State Senate District 15. Janssen was unopposed in the May 15 primary election and defeated Mike Petersen in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[11][12]

2016 Republican National Convention

Janssen was a district-level delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Nebraska. All 36 delegates from Nebraska were bound by state party rules to support Donald Trump at the convention.[15] As of July 13, 2016, Trump had approximately 1,542 delegates. The winner of the Republican nomination needed the support of 1,237 delegates. Trump formally won the nomination on July 19, 2016.

Delegates from Nebraska to the Republican National Convention were elected at a state convention in May 2016. Donald Trump won all 36 Nebraska delegates in the state primary election on May 10, 2016. Delegates from Nebraska were bound for the first two ballots at the national convention unless the candidate to whom they were pledged released them or received less than 35 percent of the vote on the first ballot.

Delegate allocation
Nebraska had 36 delegates at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Of this total, nine were district-level delegates (three for each of the state's three congressional districts). Nebraska's district delegates were allocated on a winner-take-all basis; the plurality winner of the statewide primary vote received all of the state's district delegates.[16][17]
Of the remaining 27 delegates, 24 served at large. Nebraska's at-large delegates were allocated on a winner-take-all basis; the plurality winner of the statewide primary vote received all of the state's at-large delegates. In addition, three national party leaders (identified on the chart below as RNC delegates) served as bound delegates to the Republican National Convention. The RNC delegates were required to pledge their support to the winner of the state's primary.[16][17]

He has been involved with the American Legion Post 20, Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce, Fremont Area Medical Center Foundation, Fremont Area United Way, Fremont Masonic Lodge, Fremont National Bank, Fremont Veterans Club, Fremont Veterans Honor Guard Unit, Greater Fremont Development, Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District, Northeast Nebraska Housing Board, Scottish Rite, Tangier Shriners and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
