DVDVob2Mpg

NEW VERSION 3.0

NO MORE UPDATES?
DVDVob2Mpg is a simple, straightforward and very fast VOB and VRO to MPG converter. Contrary to popular believe, VOB and VRO files are not the same as MPG files. VOB and VRO files contain the mpeg, but also various other data, also headers may be incomplete or wrong etc. Because of that, VOB and VRO files typically don't play well using media Players (for insance Windows Media Player). Some DVD Video Playback software is able to get passed that, but not always, especially when the relevant IFO files are not available.

DVDVob2Mpg 3.0 Released
This version features a lot of speed improvements. Both in memory management as well as asynchronous reading and writing.

There are also more checks and error/warning dialogs. For instance when the input file(s) or output file(s) are inaccessible. The application also handles read errors better, for instance when you try to read from CSS protected DVDs.

Lastly, we polished the icons a bit.

All features

Typical problems are: timing issues, not being able to show the progress properly, no way to skip forward, crashes, missing audio, audio off sync, only showing the first 5 seconds of the video etc.

DVD Video authoring applications and Video Editing software suffer from the same problem. They may accept VOB/VRO files as input video, but they often fail or even worse, crash on faulty headers, timing data etc.

The same goes for VOB or VRO files that were recovered from DVD, for instance with IsoBuster. They may miss sectors, because parts of the DVD were unreadable, or the DVD file-system was bad so that IsoBuster needed to resort to recovery based on File Signatures, which may mean more overhead data in the data stream etc.

DVDVob2Mpg fixes the mpeg stream and converts your VOB/VRO files to MPG files with ease. DVDVob2Mpg is very fast and causes no loss of quality ! It does not re-encode the video and audio like so many other applications do. Instead it re-multiplexes the existing video and audio while it fixes the MPEG program stream and headers, it calculates and applies correct timing, throws away bad video frames and nonesense data. At the end everything is puzzled back together to come to a very clean MPG file, per the mpeg standard. MPG files created with DVDVob2Mpg will play beautifully using Windows media player, and they will import with ease in all Video DVD authoring applications or Video Editing software.

If you wish to edit your video, change size, apply filters, remove scenes etc. you will need Video Editing software. But before you do, first convert your VOB file with free DVDVob2Mpg to a very clean MPG file. It will save you lots of frustration.

Very useful tool. Reminds me a little of MakeMKV another great tool for dvd.

A wonderful, couldn't-be-easier little program that performs its very basic function as well (and as quickly) as one could ask for. Some may say that DVD format is passe', and that this util ceased development years ago, but I still find good and regular use for it. Just one example: say you want to send someone a video clip of something to someone. First, as the simplest solution, I'd check on Youtube to see if it already exists there, in which case you could just send the intended recipient a link, avoid having to do anything more and be done with it. It's not on YT, or anywhere else convenient ? O.K., I've recorded it with my DVD recorder, but this is now in "a mess" of VOB, IFO, and BUP files. The recipient may not be familiar with handling DVD format, if it's sent that way *digitally.* (Or it could be files you've acquired elsewhere.) I could turn it into a single ISO file, or a self-extracting Zip archive . . . but that's still too tech-y for some. (Don't laugh: WE may understand these things, but this does occur in the real world.) A single MPG file is as simple as it gets for video, though. Anyone should be able to play it directly, on any OS, with ANY video player. Just convert the relevant VOB file with this. Then your only problem is sending a larger size file than some email systems will accept, but there are free cloud solutions and free third-party xfer services to cover that part.

First impression: excellent
Content was a VRO from a Pana DMR-EZ28. The VRO was edited on the recorder, originally 1:02:00 standard play. After the edits the content was ~0:41:02 so it was fragmented. The content worked fine in splayer and gom.

Other conversion, extraction routines were tedious, time consuming and always left compression artifacts. This product quickly and easily made a good looking mpg.

Next task is to author the mpg. But for now this is great.
