Discussion
[edit]- Previous proposal: Wikidata:Property proposal/description.--GZWDer (talk) 13:10, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- What differences between Description? --Wargo (talk) 22:21, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- Seems to be full proper sentences. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 02:35, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Descriptions should be full proper sentences IMHO. The current policy for Descriptions is enforcing an unnecessary limitation on the usability of this field. /ℇsquilo 17:21, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Lengthy and wordy descriptions will be much less helpful for structured data. If Wikidata needs full descriptive content like that, it should be in a property like this one, and not in the description. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 19:28, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Descriptions are not structured data. Descriptions are descriptions. /ℇsquilo 07:25, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Didn't say we do need it. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 16:26, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose You can create content on a wiki to link to the item. --عُثمان (talk) 16:26, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Strong oppose What's the point of Wikidata if we're storing data in strings?! Lectrician1 (talk) 23:01, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Very true. If anything, you should be able to generate this description based on the structured data. If something can't be represented, propose a property for it. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 23:21, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose: For much of the same reasons as objections to Wikidata:Property proposal/description. Wikidata is not an encyclopedia or travel guide or newspaper. Wikidata is not Wikipedia. Text strings of more than a few words and/or or of sufficient originality can be subject to copyright, which undercuts the CC-0 license for structured data. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Animalparty (talk • contribs).
- Strong oppose The examples are simply restatements of the information already found on the items. Nothing new is added here except 1) a summary and 2) a conversion to a non-machine readable model.
