inequality-adjusted Human Development Index
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic
Description | Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI) value of a country |
---|---|
Represents | Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (Q114008777) |
Data type | Quantity |
Template parameter | To the best of my knowledge, it is not yet used but will be on the French Wikipedia as a discussion is currently being done. |
Domain | country elements such as France (Q142) |
Allowed values | number between 0 and 1 (same as for the HDI) |
Allowed units | dimensionless number |
Example 1 | France (Q142) - value of 0.903 in 2021 |
Example 2 | Switzerland (Q39) - value of 0.962 in 2021 |
Example 3 | South Sudan (Q958) - value of 0.385 in 2021 |
Source | list of countries by inequality-adjusted HDI (Q3809938) (list of countries), usage in Human Development Reports, information about the IDHI |
Planned use | this property would be added to all countries for which an IHDI was calculated. |
Robot and gadget jobs | a robot could theoretically update values automatically but this is not easily feasible (the same could be done for the HDIs) |

Motivation
[edit]The United Nations have defined an Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), which takes into account inequalities within countries in the calculation of the Human Development Index (HDI). The aim of this new property is to be able to mention the IHDI for each country (as it is currently the case for the HDI) and potentially import these data to the Wikipedias.
Similar properties already exist for the HDI (Human Development Index (P1081)) and the Gini coefficient (Gini coefficient (P1125)), and the IHDI is as important as these (or even more) as it considers more parameters. Adding a propriety would enable the centralisation of the values among Wikipedias and the easy update. Thanks! -- Antimuonium (talk) 17:34, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose with the current datatype. Storing a lot of data in country items is expensive as the whole item has to be rewritten every time a new value is added. More data also increases page loading time. I would prefer the tabular data type and only have one data point per country instead of one per year. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 10:08, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- I don't really mind about the datatype, as long as it's coherent with similar properties (like HDI), although I don't know much about the tabular datatype. I agree with you about the increase in loading time though. Antimuonium (talk) 17:09, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- I think page load time issues should not be counted as arguments for not creating new properties. This is a frontend design problem that the dev team will need to tackle at some point. NMaia (talk) 06:56, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Tthis may be an argument for also creating a property for tabular IHDI, and perhaps restricting the regular property to one (current) value; but not for rejecting the proposal I think. --GrandEscogriffe (talk) 21:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support Happy Planet Index score (P11547): The Happy Planet Index (HPI) is an index of human well-being and environmental impact that was introduced by the New Economics Foundation in 2006 is created, why not this? Midleading (talk) 05:16, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- Comment The description is too long, and written like a property proposal reason which is not suitable on the created property page. Midleading (talk) 03:44, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Midleading: I have fixed this by moving it to the motivation. --GrandEscogriffe (talk) 21:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support same logic as HDI and HPI. --GrandEscogriffe (talk) 21:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
