Investment plays a critical role in driving innovative solutions to increase access to #water and #sanitation globally, but especially in vulnerable communities and households. Since 2016, WaterEquity has made more than 90+ loans to local financial institutions to scale their #water and #sanitation #microfinance portfolios. As of this quarter, these investments have catalyzed more than 1 million #microloans to low-income consumers. "At WaterEquity, we focus on providing debt capital to financial institutions in emerging markets, enabling them to expand water and sanitation lending. This capital helps grow microloan portfolios that supports households and local enterprises delivering vital water and sanitation solutions. We are excited to use this momentum and further scale up WaterEquity's efforts to reach millions more underserved homes." - Anu Valli, Senior Director, Financial Institution Investments, WaterEquity. Our financial institution partners play a crucial role in addressing this gap, and we are thankful to work alongside them in bringing water and sanitation solutions to all.

"Gender-Responsive Climate Governance and the Role of Women Leaders," a recent report by the IFC - International Finance Corporation, suggests that women may have a critical role in effective climate governance in emerging markets and developing economies. Why might this matter? Research from the UNDP and The World Bank indicates that water projects involving women are more effective and sustainable. At WaterEquity, we understand this firsthand. Our funds primarily target women beneficiaries and aim to employ a gender-lens framework in our investment decisions.
