Paramount+’s six-episode series Knuckles amassed 4 million hours of viewing over April 26-28 — a record for a Paramount+ original series, the streamer says. With a running time of 169 minutes across all six episodes, Knuckles‘ 4 million hours of viewing equates to about 1.42 million complete showings. To compare, the No. 10 series in Netflix’s internal weekly rankings has averaged about 1.5 million views over a week recently. Read more.

ABC ticked up by about 4 percent — with an assist from Monday Night Football — while Fox took a hit, falling by almost 25 percent a year after having the Super Bowl and losing its most watched show, 911, to ABC. The CW slipped 16 percent. Read more.

NBA’s OK Playoff Start

The opening round of the NBA playoffs has served up some good-sized audiences — just not quite as big as a year ago. First-round games have averaged 3.17 million viewers across ESPN/ABC, Turner Sports and NBA TV, off slightly from 3.36 million at the same point in 2023. ABC’s April 27 broadcast of game four of the Nuggets-Lakers series posted the biggest audience at 5.67 million viewers — but the Lakers were eliminated two nights later, which could put a damper on viewership with a marquee team out of the running. The continued presence of the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference could help offset that.

DATA SPOTLIGHT

The Subscriber Race (Is Over?)

As Netflix hits nearly 270 million global subscribers the streaming giant is also marking the end of an era, telling investors that it will stop providing quarterly sub numbers in 2025. The past year has seen subscriber numbers rise swiftly, juiced by the company’s password-sharing crackdown. That effort isn’t done yet, but it is safe to say the end is in sight. Read more.

YouTube Tops in TV Use

YouTube was once again the top individual streaming service with 9.7 percent of all TV use in March — the largest for any single streamer since Nielsen began its Gauge rankings in May 2021. Netflix (8.1 percent of TV use) and Hulu (3 percent) also grew month to month. Streaming remained the biggest platform for TV users, gathering 38.5 percent of viewing for March — up from 37.7 percent a month earlier. Read more.
