Chile's territorial shape is certainly among the world's most unusual. From north to south, Chile extends 4,270 kilometers, and yet it only averages 177 kilometers east to west.
Chile has a long coastline with low coastal mountains, a central valley and mountains (Andes) to the east.
This land of incredible contrasts is home to the world's most arid desert (the Atacama), numerous active volcanoes, fjords, deep sea channels, glaciers, icebergs, and much, much more.
Highest Peaks: Aconcagua, Llullaillaco, Nevado Ojos del Salado
The vast percentage of its population is found near Santiago along the narrow and productive central plain (or pampas). The Loa is the longest river in Chile.
Largest Cities: Santiago, Concepción, Vina del Mar, Valparaíso, Puente Alto, Talcahuano, Antofagasta, Temuco
