Tesco customer reveals the little-known tip every Clubcard holder needs to know for the best deals

  • Posting to her account on Instagram, Gemma Bird shared the tip for shoppers

A Tesco customer has revealed a clever Clubcard hack that helps subscribers of the discount scheme find the best deals.

Posting to her account on Instagram under the handle @moneymumofficial, Gemma Bird, who offers financial tips for parents, gave a handy tip to Tesco shoppers.

Customers in possession of the supermarket chain's loyalty card - known as a Clubcard - can save on items earmarked by the brand, saving them money at the end of their shop.

Revealing the hack in an Instagram reel, Gemma began the video by zooming on one of the trademark yellow and blue Clubcard stickers.

She then panned the camera to show the difference between a regular price and the discounted Clubcard price.

The financial tipster said that there is a handy trick that buyers can use to see when a Clubcard offer is about to expire.

This can be seen by viewing a six-digit assortment of numbers, which represents the date a specific item is discounted until.

For example, in the video, an item is seen with the code 230704, meaning it was valid until July 4 2023.

Brits should be mindful that this follows a year/month/day format, rather than the day/month/year sequence they might be expecting when looking for an offer's expiry date.

Every pound you spend in store or online equates to one Clubcard point.

When you redeem these points in the form of vouchers to spend in Tesco, they are worth one penny per point.

Those with Clubcards can also access discounts on select  products in store and online, as well as exchanging points for other rewards.

It comes after customers were left fuming over a change in the Clubcard rules in June last year leaving them 'hundreds of pounds out of pocket'.

Previously customers were able to swap their Tesco vouchers for up to three times their worth at more than 100 High Street brands called 'Reward Partners'.

Alongside discounted prices, the Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner scheme also allowed customers to earn points to spend on meals, travel and days out.

But the changes, which were due to take effect from June 14, meant customers can now only able to claim two times the value of their vouchers at places including Virgin Atlantic, Disney+, Legoland and Cafe Rouge.

The supermarket chain was forced to push back the deadline for the voucher points as thousands of people trying to claim their rewards caused their systems to crash.
