As a result of FDA guidance released earlier this month, we are re-sharing "Decentralised Clinical Trials: Achieving our Ambition?", first published by our #Synetic colleagues in 2023. "This remains an incredibly challenging space for biopharmaceutical companies. There is a stakeholder consensus that decentralised elements will benefit many patients. However, regulatory, legal, logistical and ethical considerations have resulted in a more cautious adoption. This paper discusses the challenges and proposes critical success factors for conducting decentralised elements within the clinical trial setting." It's my favourite day of the year, the Lucid Global annual meeting! Every year, we take a day out to consolidate learning in a fun and engaging format, this keeps us on the front foot and full of ideas for our clients. We've run Dragon's Den and Apprentice style training, we've taken on Young(ish) Enterprise and this year we've gone for it with a Taskmaster themed day of challenges focussing on empathy and our brief interrogation skills! If you don't know Taskmaster, YouTube it, you won't be disappointed. Our teams are currently writing a brief for new products that will help patients with 'twitchy eye' and 'wonky knee'. Feel free to ask them about it on your next status catch ups! Massive thank you to all of the organisers that have brought it together but big thanks to Nigel Campbell and our Taskmaster and his assistant Nigel Horn and James Hadfield. Philippa McClure (Senior Strategy Director) shares her reflections on life at Lucid: "I love the variety and the challenge of my work most. Working with clients to design solutions to address their challenges and transform the lives of patients brings me joy professionally. I try to take a different approach each time; no two problems are the same, so no two solutions should be either. I feel so lucky to work with such a clever bunch of people. At Lucid, we say we’re driven by curiosity – I really feel that in the work that we do together. That drive to find out more and make something better is what gets me up in the morning. Having returned to work from a year’s maternity leave; the term ‘matrescence’ is used to describe the transition into motherhood, and I think there needs to be another word to describe the transition back to work after having a baby! I feel like a totally different person now. I think I often come across as confident, but I don’t always feel that way. Everyone is so generous with their time and energy, I’m so grateful for the support of my colleagues – within team and across Lucid – in helping me navigate this experience." #lucidlife #lucidspotlight

The team at Lucid are saddened by the sudden loss of Professor Marcus Maurer. We work with many leading experts, yet even among these luminaries, Marcus stood out as someone who had truly transformed patient care. We were privileged to see him at work – in collaboration with many pharma companies, and independently – tirelessly advocating for patients with urticaria and urging his peers to do the same. His mammoth efforts in establishing the CURE registry and building the GA2LEN network, among many other initiatives, have become his legacy far too soon. We would also like to recognize the huge amount of fun that we had working with him. He was always charming, and frequently had us laughing along with him. We will miss him.

Through our Lucid Spirit philanthropy programme, we offer matched funding for the charitable causes that are important to our people. Karen Hawkins (Principal Medical Writer) shares what this means to her: "This August I walked 80 miles in 1 month to raise awareness for the 1 in 80 pregnancies that are ectopic. I walked the last 2 weeks of my challenge in France on a family holiday and my 2 children joined me for the last mile in Saint-Malo. Through the generosity of family, friends and Lucid Spirit, we managed to raise an amazing £1400 for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, a charity that supports those affected by ectopic pregnancy. This charity helped me a lot when I went through an ectopic pregnancy, and I am so happy and proud to be able to give back to such a wonderful charity. Thank you to everyone who donated and to Lucid Spirit." #lucidspirit #compassionatelyhuman

As our Summer Internship at DiD came to a close last week, Anna Rodebaugh shares her reflections on her experiences: "I've enjoyed the dynamic and collaborative environment at Lucid, which fosters both personal and professional growth. Working across departments broadened my industry knowledge and helped me build strong relationships. The supportive culture at DiD, combined with the opportunity to engage with diverse projects that value creativity and innovation, made every day exciting and rewarding. A surprising fact about me is that I've been passionate about the game of softball since I was five, playing every position on the field, but ultimately dedicated myself to becoming a pitcher, where I could truly express my love for the sport and contribute to my team's success." #lucidspotlight #lucidlife

Kayla Alves "Endpoint Support Specialist at DiD", shares her reflections on life at Lucid and what she enjoys about her role: "What I cherish most about my role as an Endpoint Support Specialist at Lucid is the chance to engage with a diverse range of people, from our internal teams to our clients. Whether it's resolving simple Wi-Fi connection issues or tackling complex blue-screen errors, each new ticket and incident offers a valuable opportunity to expand my IT knowledge and skills. A surprising fact about me is my love for reading, especially physical books. They provide a delightful escape from the tech world. Some of my favorite series include 'Six of Crows' by Leigh Bardugo and 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' by Sarah J. Maas. I highly recommend them! Reading has been a cherished part of my life since childhood, and it's wonderful to continue this passion into adulthood." #lucidlife #lucidspotlight

Joanna Troman 'President of Functional Excellence at Lucid' shares her reflections on our commitment to inclusion for all: 'In the last week, we have seen a number of racist and xenophobic incidents on our streets in the UK. Against this backdrop, I want to reaffirm Lucid’s commitment to building a world where people, of all backgrounds are respected and valued. Lucid strongly condemn the acts of violence taking place and we stand in solidarity with everyone impacted during this distressing time. We are committed to providing a Compassionately Human culture free from discrimination, bullying and harassment as enshrined in our group wide inclusion policy.' #CompassionatelyHuman
