100 Women är ett projekt grundat av BBC 2013. Projektet undersöker och belyser 2000-talets kvinnoroll och evenemang relaterade till 100 Women har bland annat hållits i London och Mexiko.[1][2][3] Varje publiceras en lista på 100 kvinnor vilket även innebär starten på "BBC's kvinnosäsong" som varar tre veckor och innebär sändningar, rapporter, debatter och journalistik som fokuserar på kvinnor.[4] Kvinnor världen över uppmuntras att delta med synpunkter på listan och de evenemang som följer.[5]
History
[redigera | redigera wikitext]Efter gruppvåldtäkten i Delhi 2012 ville de BBC-anställda Liliane Landor, Fiona Crack och andra journalister skapa en serie som fokuserade på frågor och prestationer för kvinnor i dagens samhället.[6][7][8] De kände att dessa frågor inte togs upp i media på ett tillräckligt djuplodande vis och i mars 2013 mottog BBC önskemål från kvinnliga lyssnare att de skulle ta upp innehåll från och om kvinnor.[9]
BBC skapade 100 Women för att komma till rätta med underrepresentationen av kvinnor i media.[8][10] Första gången projektet hölls pågick det under en månad och avslutades med en konferens där 100 kvinnor världen över träffades för att diskutera olika frågor som anställningar, feminism, moderskap och religion.[11] De under sökte både de kulturella och sociala utmaningar kvinnor möter under sina liv.[12]
Projektet har sedan dess tagit upp fler olika ämnen som utbildning, sjukvård, löneskillnader, könsstympning, våld i nära relationer och sexuella övergrepp.[13] Man vill ge kvinnor en plattform att diskutera hur världen kan förbättras och hur sexism kan utrotas.[14] De kvinnor som hamnar på listan kommer från hela världen och har olika sorters bakgrunder, erfarenheter och yrken.[15] Den består både av kända och okända kvinnor.[16][17]

[redigera | redigera wikitext]The BBC News 100 Women list in 2015 was made up of many notable international names,[23] as well as women who were unknown, but who represented issues women face. The women of 2015, were from 51 countries and were not necessarily those who would traditionally have been seen as role models—a woman suffering from depression, a woman who advocates for equal access to bathroom facilities, a woman who encourages other women to avoid make-up, and a reindeer nomad.[24]

[redigera | redigera wikitext]The 2013 event was a month-long BBC series that took place in October.[9] The series examined the role of women in the 21st century and culminated in an event held at BBC Broadcasting House in London, United Kingdom on 25 October 2013 involving a hundred women from around the world, all of whom came from different walks of life.[9] The day featured debate and discussion on radio, television and online, in which the participants were asked to give their opinions about the issues facing women.[1]
The event held on 25 October 2013 featured 100 women from all walks of life.[28]
