Previous updates

2022

We're making a few improvements to the Content ID dispute and appeal process for both claimants and uploaders. These improvements came from feedback we’ve heard over the years about the process. These changes may impact some of your workflows in Studio Content Manager. Here's what's changing:

1. Stronger eligibility requirements: To reduce potential abuse of the appeal process, we're raising the requirements needed for users to submit Content ID appeals. From now on, the ability to submit an appeal will be gated by our advanced feature access, a feature we’ve been introducing over the last couple of years which requires users to either provide identification or build their channel history over time to get access.

Since this will likely lead to fewer and higher quality appeals, we’re also shortening the timeframe to review Content ID appeals from 30 to 7 days. The standard appeal expiration will apply if no action is taken after 7 days. If the appeal is not reviewed in that 7-day period, you still have the ability to submit a takedown request at any time. You can find the appeals that need your review on your Issues page and can sort them by the appeal expiration date.

2. Escalate to appeal: Another change we're introducing for users with advanced feature access is “Escalate to appeal”. Eligible users looking to challenge block claims on their videos will have the option to skip the initial dispute step and submit an appeal right away. Note that monetize and track claims aren't eligible for “Escalate to appeal”, only block claims are eligible.

Also keep in mind that your options for appeals, e.g. release the claim or issue a takedown request, aren't changing.

Channels you manage should also benefit from these changes since they'll now have faster resolution options for claims they wish to challenge.

These changes will start to go into effect on July 18, 2022. Changes will only apply to disputes and appeals submitted after that date. To give you time to adjust your workflows, the changes will take effect gradually over time.
