Multi-channel network (MCN) operations manual

Troubleshoot channel invitation issues

These features are only available to partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.

If you see an error message when sending invites to channels, try the troubleshooting steps below.

Channel is assigned to another content owner

If you see a message that says, “This user is already assigned to content owner OWNER NAME: USERNAME” it means that the user is already linked to another MCN, for example.

The user needs to unlink the channel from that content owner before they can be invited to your network.

Channel is assigned to an inactive content owner

If you see a message that says, “This user is already assigned to another inactive content owner: USERNAME” it might be because the content owner never finished associating their AdSense for YouTube account.

The user needs to unlink the channel from that content owner before they can be invited to your network.

Inactive content owners can finish activating an AdSense for YouTube account following instructions to link an AdSense for YouTube account.

Username issues

If you see one of the following error messages, the user's username has an issue that needs to be resolved before you can invite the channel to your network:

  • “This username/external-id is invalid: USERNAME
  • “This user has not yet created a YouTube channel and cannot be linked: USERNAME
  • “This user cannot be linked because it is not associated with a Google Account: USERNAME

A username is considered invalid if it doesn't correspond to an actual username.

Keep in mind that channels created with Google+ Pages or Google+ Profiles may not have traditional usernames, but use an “external ID,” which can be found by going to the channel and copying the 15 characters after "UC" in the URL.

Invites have already been sent

If you see a message that says, “This user is already invited by you: USERNAME,” you can ask the channel to check their channel dashboard and accept your invitation.

If you see a message that says, “This user is already managed by you: USERNAME,” it means that the channel is already linked to your content manager.
