Use NoSleep! in order to enjoy DVDs without interruptions or to run the Disk Defragmenter undisturbed by the screen saver...
NoSleep! temporarily deactivates the screen saver and some of your computer's standby features (as far as they are controllable by software). It does so either by disabling those services through system calls or by emulating keyboard activity.
Once started, NoSleep! presents its icon in the system tray (near the clock). It can be activated / deactivated by clicking on the icon. Right clicking offers you all the available options.
Unzip all the files into any folder and run Setup.exe. Some shortcuts will be created in the Start Menu. If you want NoSleep! to be running all the time, copy the NoSleep! shortcut into the StartUp folder.
Note: On Windows NT, 2000 and XP the installation procedure can fail due to access restrictions. In this case, just copy NoSleep!.exe into any folder and run it from there.
The uninstallation procedure is located in the Start Menu:
Start -> Programs -> NoSleep! -> Uninstall NoSleep!
Note: If the installation procedure failed, you won't have this option. In this case, simply delete NoSleep!.exe and any shortcuts you created for it.
In the Settings dialog, you can toggle several features:

The command line syntax for NoSleep! is the following:
NoSleep! [ /on | /off | /tgl | /x ] [ /tray ]
Like this you can remote control NoSleep!'s state by (keyboard) shortcuts, scripts, and so on.
Note: If you also create a (keyboard) shortcut to you favorite screen saver, you'll be able to control its behavior completely by shortcuts (and that without any more complicated piece of software)!
NoSleep! has been tested on a broad range of systems. It doesn't work as expected on all of them. Certain systems, especially those running on Windows 95, do not respond correctly to software based disabling of energy saving features - on those systems the emulation of keyboard activity might solve the problem. However standby features supported by a computer's BIOS may, if not controlled by Windows, not respond at all. This is not a bug, but simply a problem I haven't found a solution for.
