  1. Hello,

    I would like to ask, for educational purposes, why is the filter “LAV Splitter Source” not included in the filter list (I thought it was mandatory?), and why are the “LAV Source (Async.)” & “LAV Source (URL)” filters included?

    Thank you for everything you’ve done so far.

      • I understand. However, on PotPlayer “LAV Splitter Source” is not even added to the filter list. I am uncertain about MPC-HC. Thank you regardless.

  2. been having this issue with framerate going lower and lower as the video playback goes on to the point where it’s as low as 10fps.

    I’m on a 3080ti ryzen 5800x

        • I think gsync has something to do with it will have to test more.

          What I did was in nvidia control panel go to managed 3d settings and then select media player classic home cinema and go to “monitor technology” and then set it to fixed refresh rate.

          What I use to check is msi afterburner overlay and it looks to be better. Framerate seems to be stable at 165hz and doesn’t drop anymore

          • Aiyoo, a high refresh rate monitor, madVR can have problems with it. If disabling gsync can not help, then in the ‘Playback —> Output’ section, change the video renderer from madVR to ‘MPC Video renderer’ and see if the same problem still happens or not.

            • in the mean time I’m using windows “Films and TV” app and kinda the same issue with gsync on.

              I even tried setting my montor to 60hz same issue.

              Ok can’t really say it’s happening by chaning to “mpc video render” as frame rate is locked to 24fps and gsync doesn’t work like it should. for now with madvr on and gsync off it works

  3. Hi,

    Any special advice or specific setting for 1080p Movies on 1440p Monitor?

    Is it worth downloading UHD movies?

    AMD 5600X

    Nvidia 1660 Ti soon to be replaced by 4070

    (DXVA renderless decoding mode)

    • With the 4070 and a 1440p display, I think it should be OK to use the high-end preset. There is not need to get $k videos if you do not plan to change to 4K display.

  4. Just a message to let you know that LAVFilters-0.77.2-3-x64 is still incompatible for dual subtitles by unblocking VSFilter.

    I reverted back to LAVFilters-0.74.1-75-x64 which works fine :-)

  5. Hello,

    I’ve been using your guide for years without trouble. I’ve always unblocked VS Filter to use one subtitle file with MPC and another one (in another langage) with VS Filter, it was working fine.

    That was until I got a new computer with Windows 11. First attempt, display was stuck in 4/3. Tried messing around with VS settings, now MPC crashes unless I block VS Filter.

    Any idea what happened or how I could make it work again? Are there special settings for Windows 11 ? (I previously had Windows 10)

    As a workaround, I have to convert both files in srt, merge them with subtitletools. It kind of works, but is time consuming…

    Thanks.

    • Maybe you can try using the internal subtitle filter engine and see if the subtitle you mentioned works with it or not? I am not aware of any Windows-11-specific measures that needed to be taken in subtitle operations.

      • Thanks for your answer. I tried the subtitles with the internal engine and it works great.

        I tried with some of your test files (thanks for this, btw) with internal subs off and VSFilter unblocked:
        1 => subs works
        2 => subs works
        3 => MPC is non responsive, I have to kill it.
        5 => MPC is non responsive, I have to kill it.
        6 => works
        10 => MPC crashes immediately.

        This is really strange… I need to find someone with Windows 11 to try if this can be reproduced.

        I’m also gonna try to find if I still have an old version of your megamix installer, I’m curious to see what would happens…

      • Wait, is “DirectX End-user Runtime June 2010” still mandatory with Windows 11 that comes with DirectX 12?

          • So this time, I installed it. And… I’m even more lost.

            Another test with internal subs off and VSFilter unblocked, and everything changed:
            1&2 : MPC opens & closes, no error message.
            3 now works.
            So I thought the situation is now inverted, but it’s not: for the rest, MPC opens & closes, no error message.

            Any idea of how to get another sub file without unblocking VSFilter?

          • Hello,

            I have some news. I flashed my BIOS and installed Nvidia drivers for my 1660 Super (I was using default Win11 drivers since I installed this OS) => no change.

            I installed LAVFilters-0.74.1-75-x64 instead of LAVFilters-0.77.2-2-x64 (with reset settings) and… now it works fine! No crash, I can have two different subtitles again by unblocking VSFilter!

            If you have any idea what could cause this between 0.74.1-75 & 0.77.2-2 and want to try some changes, I’m up for beta-testing :-)
