Gee. If I owned a physical copy of ANY book I would not even attempt to out-source an e-book version.

And in my own line of research I do find sources of e-books but later, if it warrants, I would still acquire the printed version.

There is, practically, no great secret in how to create an e-book from a printed source unless that particular source is rare. Your 'tutorial' actually could encourage copyright-theft since you have no control of how your guide will be used. Allow me to give one example. Some entities in India re-'publish' works they have acquired from on-line sources - I do not intend to encourage this practice by linking to these 'pirates'.

So be careful. Your own perceived good-intentions could land you in a whole bag of trouble. Not in the volume you illustrate but in the general scheme of things.

Would be interested to know what book you consider acquiring.

Now I originally stated that copyright differs from country to country and that support page echoes this. It seems that those 4 factors apply to US copyright. And if the book you think of buying is fiction rather than non-fiction you fail by factor no 2.

'Public Domain' is, essentially, a US term which means that if earlier copyright was not renewed the work is then PD. But like I said, if another person, other than the original author, has written words in a publication of original text which is not covered by copyright that whole publication suddenly becomes copyrighted. material.

But, maybe, you, as we say, are 'making a mountain out of a mole-hill' or over-reacting unless you have a monetized channel.

You have just entered a mine-field.

To put it simply, what is copyright-free in one country will not be in another. For example, in the UK copyright automatically exists from publication and exists for 70 years AFTER the death of the author. A publisher might release new versions within that time and still claim copyright since it includes new introductions etc. In the USA, a year of 1924 (probably when such legislation was first made) is quoted but there copyright is renewable.

I suppose, but I am not a lawyer, you would be safe if you found a book published in the early 1900's (or before) - such as early editions of Dickens - and the rarety of such could be cost-prohibitive.

But what you can do is look on the Internet Archive site since that will show publication dates and you can read the same online page by page. Then having found some check for copies on Abebooks (Amazon's online S/H book-sellers source)

^^ Actually, I doubt if Baldrick would accept Devil Worship as a topic. There are forum rules you know. And dissing him would not make you popular either.

And do not fool yourself about the apparent non-existance of moderation. People do give up their time for this. And if people break the rules then they deserve all they get.

You will make few friends on here if you call people stupid.

The forum exists to help and not to teach (unless the reader wishes to learn and often it is a steep learning curve with definitions that fly over the head of many)

And why are you linking to archived posts when you can simply search the forum and link directly ?

Now if this belongs elsewhere then do educate me so I can arrange to have it moved.

Over at another forum, I was reading posts that a stream was not really 720p but, essentially, upscaled from one of the other resolutions (with a corresponding increase in bitrate) that the service provides namely 360p or 480p.

So, rather than the obvious, i.e. attempting to count the pixels, is there another way to determine if what you think you are getting is what you actually receive. After all, even YT provides the same vid at different resolutions/bitrate.

I do not know about the above. But it sounds like a fault rather than a fix. Same that some capture devices ignore MV whereas others do not.

Macrovision exists as a means for copy-protection. Given that there are several versions of MV, what works for one dvd may not work for another.

And these copy-protections exist that those not the know cannot copy their dvds.

Due to the nature of the content, you can not upload an unaltered sample from this dvd to this thread.

But I'll stick my neck out and state that I see no harm in uploading said sample, or even one vob, to an external host and send the download link by PM. Totally not interested in the content but just to assess the perceived quality.

You could also consider posting a mediainfo - text mode - report of the vob (remove the name title) since that may also provide some clues. But, equally, that can be determined from the uploaded vob if you are prepared to do this.

    "DVD-9 or DVD-5" ?

    1. Load disk into Windows Explorer and count the vobs - more than 5 then you would have DVD-9
    2. Check the bitrate in mediainfo. Higher than 5000 kbps will suggest DVD-9

'Adult titles'. I have seen these directly authored from VHS. Even so releases will not be up to Hollywood standards

The topic does mention that you do have to set the analog input (L1 or L2) - Reply #12. I assume you did try that with your un-modded unit.

As for the modded unit, I also refer you to my own reply, and others, in that topic. Typically, VHS is ony available over compostite. The DVR620 appears to be an exception rather than the rule.

We have so little info to go on and the OP's replies to Q.'s do not assist.

So I'll ask a few more Q.'s. 1. Name the titles of these 'poor' DVDs. 2.Provide lnks to the purchase source(s)

Also, have you, the OP, actually authored and burnt your own dvds or simply, going by your initial comments, just burnt clips to disks as data. Equally, do you have earlier bought dvds that do not have these 'issues'.

And finally maybe we need to judge these ourselves. I so no harm in you ripping the disk(s) and provide a short, unaltered, sample. And if you do not know how to do this then just ask.

Tubedigger can do it but the trial mode is very limited.

Clips do appear on Sky News YT channel.

Now when I read this, it reminds me of an episode of Gavin and Stacy. Gavin's father is set to appear on the 'news' and both families gather around their tv sets eagerly awaiting his appearance - which lasts all of 30 seconds :D

I still think you are over-reacting to the 'privacy' issue. We know, as with most members on here, very little, if anything about you. Do you really think that a short sequence of 10-20 seconds of original footage will suddenly result in those that view instantly recognise who is featured ?

Personally, I do not think the OP is playing 'games'. Even if terms such as PAR,DAR etc were previously explained they can confuse and the OP is trying a different way to get over these hurdles.

After all, replies are given 'in good faith' since many a topic could be construed as 'playing games'.

Now the OP does not wish to present an actual, un-doctored, clip which would be the obvious way to put this 'discussion' to bed. Probably over-reacting to the privacy issue but without that it's total speculation.

That can be the only logical explanation. I did begin to think I was having a senior moment since I am normally 'logged in' but still got the initial mail. As for the last one I received on 30/04 I know I was away on that day so was not logged in.

Interesting though is that this topic now appears*, along with the two I saw this morning, in the initial subscription list. But not the one I contributed to earlier this evening. And even the last one in that thread posted by Sharc on 22:33 when I was not logged in did not hit my inbox.

And neither have your replies here.

The 'normal' way would be to assess a circle. Slightly harder since the wheels are not full on. But if one is not true then I would have to, personally, say that the lower one is.

Better to have two disks than none.

Do bear in mind that your dad will most unlikely be able to play your download on his dvd-player if you simply burn that on a disk. You will have to use an authoring program such as avstodvd to create dvd-compatable assets plus imgburn to do the actual burning.

Agreed. That clip runs perfectly fine. Maybe those who have commented are comparing it with another, faulty, version.

And BTW there is no need to use an external host for such a small clip. Simply load as an attachment in your post (and it will last longer than on mega)

IIRC DVDShrink will only compress up to a point. That is to say it restricts itself to a 'playable' size. And that is going to depend on your source.

I assume you already have the folder on your HDD since IIRC it can not work direct from disk. (Been a long time since I used it)

I had this email not from either my main email addr or the secondary (gmail/Google) one. But from the mail addr assoc with my website (zilch to do with video). So no guesses how they got hold of that.

The sender claimed they had accessed my webcam and all the hanky-wanky sites I had visited and if I did not cough up the bitcoin all my contacts would see the recordings of my webcam. Sure I was worried and for 30 secs I thought about how to get the bitcoin (even if I did not want them to see how big my tadger was ) even though I knew that would just be a drop in the ocean with more to follow.

    But then I realised.......
