encoding black borders to your 1408x960 will create a 1920x1080 video with black borders top, bottom, left and right. but the new ar will be 16/9. do what corny suggests. create a 1440x1080 then add just left and right black borders.

your blanks are cmcmag-ba5-000. they use cheap outdated and mostly no longer used lth dye. try some other bdr.

in my experience all jvc vchrs hate EP. never worked well on any jvc unit i tried.

db83 - there were a couple very specific panasonic dv cams that came with special driver that allowed them to capture miniDV over usb. it didn't always work because usb2 back then was cpu controlled and the stream could be interrupted.

vegas and other editing softwares are designed to take in first gen video/audio mostly from cams/mics. these type editing software is not designed to input and work with finalized end user output type video.

first thing i'd do is update to a newer version of vegas. unless you're running on win7, v13 is really outdated. i'm stuck on v16 which works really well but it's as new as i can run with win8.1 vegas pro goes on sale often for little money. i also have premiere pro, but much prefer vegas pro.

not you! if the model number in the threads name is correct it's a video8 only cam, not even hi8. doesn't even have a dv port, as it's strictly analog. no firewire connection which is required to "print to tape".

lol. 720x480 is standard a 4:3 aspect ratio for most ntsc video, but they are non square pixel video. square pixel video would be 640x480. you have research to do. :-)

make sure there is no check mark in "scenes split" box. and the hard drive needs to formatted as exfat or ntfs not fat32.

both your 4:3 options are nuts and incorrect. 4:3 on a 16/9 display has to have black bars on both sides to display the entire frame correctly.

get winDV right here from the software download section. it will work with the DV tapes.

i'll have to look into 3d projectors, i didn't know there were any. and yes my current samsung tv uses active battery operated glasses. i have a stack of them and buy the button batteries in bulk :-)

my samsung plasma 3d tv is getting a little long in the tooth, can't find anything comparable to replace it with. would need oled for real blacks also i guess. anyone know of anything currently available? i have ~ 100 3d movies i'd hate to not be able to watch in 3d, they are nice....

i'm stuck on vegas pro 16 as i use win 8.1, it does some hevc, but i don't think it accepts any 10 bit video. if you upload a small sample here i can try it in v16.

update to a new version of vegas. 8 years ago when 13 came out 10bit hevc didn't exist.

if all the tapes were recorded with the tvr20e, then they can only be pal DV tapes.

the camcorder is capable of recording/playing both miniDV and HDV. it has to be put in the correct transfer mode(not auto) for the tape you are trying to capture. but like dbb3 said, i don't know of a firewire card that works with w11. look in device manager and see if "1394 OHCI Host Controller" is listed and working.

just picked up a "Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 MK5, Intel i5-5300U 2.3GHz, 13.1 LED Touchscreen, 8GB, 240GB SSD, Windows 10 Pro, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE (Renewed)" for $229 on amazon, in just about new condition. meets my needs for an automotive serial eeprom reading/burning machine. there are good deals out there if you look long enough. it would probably do for general video use also.

looks like it was either recorded with dirty heads or captured with dirty heads. the dropouts follow a pattern, they aren't random like a magnetically failing tape would show. 12 or 16 bit audio has always been equally acceptable, so that's not a problem.

there are 2 types of verbatim blu-rays blanks. "htl" and "lth" the "low to high" version doesn't play on all br players. it was a way to use cheap dvd tech to make br blanks.

i read you don't expect to record over 45 minutes at a time. use a tape if you NEED to use that cam! or buy a much more modern camcorder that records to memory cards. you have a third world problem. it ain't fixable.

maybe go shopping at "goodwill" they usually have working older computers, maybe you'd get lucky and score one with a firewire port. the reason to leave the tape door open is to keep the camcorder from shutting off while recording without tape straight to the computer.

it's been awhile but there used to be a trick to get some HDV cams to record directly to a pc over firewire bypassing tape. i used HDVsplit and i think you had to leave the tape door open.

first thing i'd try is windows disk error checking on the drive. it works well on corrupted files/drives. right click on the drive, properties/tools/error checking. you may have to reboot to get it to run if anything is being used on the drive.

open one with a hexeditor and see if there is any data in it.

you're using a very outdated version of vegas if it says "sony" anywhere. maybe v12? versions 13 to 20 says magix on the opening screen.

LOL. why to you keep blaming sony? vegas was written by sonic foundry, sold to sony, who then sold to to magix 7 years ago.

you could try converting it first to a lossless codec like huffyuv or ut lossless. then vegas might accept that.

also could be vegas 13 is just too old to support it, especially if it isn't vegas pro. it's fairly ancient at about 10 years old. it was still a sony product back then.

that's a fairly old drive. sometimes the tray gears get sticky. try pushing the button and prying the sides open with tiny screwdrivers.

vidcoder is fine, it works well and is still being updated. one of the better ones out there.
