OK, (1) the original films were basic movies without subtitles displayed. I watched most of them already. (2) I have made MKV files with a free version before (Quite awhile back) on windows without any issues with subtitles. I needed to check if things had changed? (3) I am going to have to check Handbrake, just in case the subtitles icon is in error, I am going to have to come back to you later regarding that. Thank you for the link to MediaInfo could be very informative. I do not know how to use this software, will have a look at it and come back if i can use it reasonably quickly. Many thanks for you input, and ideas, cheers.

Hi Guys, I am using Make MKV free version,on Ubuntu 20.04, to create MKV files, then using Handbrake to convert to MP4 . However, all the movies have subtitles displayed? is this a normal function of the free version? I made alot of MKV files?. Can I remove the subtitles? Cheers.

Yes, I am right, all the virtual resources return to the main system after use. For my quad cpu rig, two CPU units is good resource per virtual machine. The virtual RAM allocated also returns to main machine. Never had inclination to create a virtual machine before so was new to me, not any more, know exactly how much RAM to allocate correctly for smooth running. Thanks Network Chuck! :)

Hi guys, a little question,i have just installed a virtual box on my computer can i put a ubuntu and a win 10 iso onto my machine? A HP 8300 elite running win 10 pro, 4 cpu, 8GB ram. What I do not understand is ,if I use 2cpu for the iso linux virtual machine, when i close it down, does the 2 cpu allocated to it return to the main computer , where i can then use the 2 cpu to operate a win 10 virtual machine.

Not sure if i have got this right

So if i allocate half my cpu to a virtual machine I can have two iso virtual machines installed, each allocated 2cpu, and can operate them separately using one at any given time? Is this correct?

Hi Ai Haibara, used Handbrake to re encode the discs, the final file size 1.01 GB, on the SD Card, and playing with a good picture on the Tablet, well pleased with the result. Many thanks for the overall info on MKVs and re encoding. I am also going to re encode full discs as well. Thanks for all posts.:)

OK, I already had VLC app for android installed on the Tab, didnt work, play. I tried to play the Video_TS file, in VLC, it opened and played the lion growling, (at the start of the film) then stopped playing. Thing is, these film files are the ripped/copies , i do not have the originals. The discs were all playing fine on my computer without issues. MakeMKV looks like the way to go, IF, its a straightforward disc in and is reconverted to playable format. Testing tomorrow!

Dont know if this is in the right section, anyway,

Hi guys put some movies onto an exfat formatted sd card. The movies were originally created using decrypter, and dvd shrink reduced to 4.35 gb. The Tab can see the VOB files but i get error message "cant play/open these files). any easy solution to get the files working. cheers
BTW, im posting as im not sure if decrypter and shrink have interfered with processing these files.

Nice one, davexnet everything is working again. The Windows 10 booted up after i checked what drive was recognised and configured the SSD . Then into boot order, Legacy , then Hard Drive Boot , save and exit = booted. Before installing i reinstalled another Ubuntu O/S onto a small drive, but the original small HDD with Ubuntu on, only returned a blank screen with a blinking cursor, but i think i know why this occurred and had nothing to do with the BIOS defaults being changed. Many thanks to both. Cheers

Hi october262, thanks, I already have that link for fixing the Non system disc, but thanks all the same. the HDD connection is sound. I am going to have to let this one go, too many problems associated with the BIOS configurations.
Have decided to reinstall Ubuntu onto a small HDD to get rid of this error message at startup. Both the HDDs, linked into this computer (1) windows 10 SSD and (2) Ubuntu 20.04 HDD had very little data on them only a few Word documents. Will have to reinstall the Ubuntu, and a possible loss of the Win 10 O/S. Have not tried to install the SSD yet. Anyway, many thanks to you both for your input. Dont be surprised if you see my post "how to get, install Win 10" IF, the Win 10 has gone. All the very best, Cheers.

Hi davexnet, thanks I will set the BIOS back to defaults to morrow, and will post tomorrow evening Going to library to get a PC maintenance book tomorrow. If you read the first post i was testing this, and that, without a clue, hoping for something to show me where to look in order to post a specific problem . Just did not think of doing a systematic procedure to check what was now connected , or even if the other HDDs were being detected, nothing appeared to indicate it was locked into the very first HDD. Thanks for the BIOS link interesting overview, needed.

Update to issue; in BIOS under STORAGE, = Device Configuration, it has the first HDD info listed this HDD may have caused the initial problem,This HDD was removed and taken back to the shop i bought it in for a refund.

Under = DPS Self Test, it has the same HDD info listed! dont know what a DPS self test is or what will happen if i try to test to a non existant drive. Have the small 80gb Ubuntu drive installed now.

The returnedH DD info should not be there, hopefully an easy BIOS fix ?

Check out the user reviews https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/iso-download-mirrors/ I have never downloaded a Linux ISO before, always used USA seller or ebay. I will give this one a bit more thought before downloading it, but very welcome for the pointing in the right direction. Many thanks.

Worked, straight away! Although took a bit of time for connection. I have both options, but always use wired connection. Checked top RHS > settings > wired connection showed accessed > Firefox > videohelp. I did not have to turn it off and on again, although this procedure and technique eliminates distractive mistakes as well. Could also be the problem not checking all the different aspects of having a connection. Funny thing is when I tried to post this reply from the Linux connection in videohelp (Reply to Thread) it would not let me; I’m using my laptop now. I use my laptop with Win 7 mostly and have to swap SSD and HDD to use Ubuntu O/S on a desktop. It wouldn't surprise me if I did not log in properly, it happens! Anyway, thanks for the good advice, and I will test the ubuntu posting on videohelp, cheers. :):

Hi VoodooFX, thanks for the links, is there a user guide, how to use archive .org-downloader ? Is this software specific for the Internet archive? I cant even get signed into the Internet archive site to access the borrowable books. The other type are OK to download, sometimes? sometimes wonky!

Same here, used site only for out of print books. No need to sign in, although some of the downloads were a bit iffy, could be due to wrong format or not proper software installed. Imaged out of print books for free to download ! good idea. Other specialist sites do the same. The Internet Archive are suggesting you can borrow digitally delivered books (encrypted with a DRM). for a limited period just like the LIBBY app from the local UK library. These books have been copied from original book source, by DIY enthusiasts using scanners and cameras, usually keeping the integrity of the original book pages.
Useful resource for out of print titles, just wondering if the borrowing part is too good to be true... it probably is.

Hi Guys, anyone currently using or familiar with the Internet Archive? Tried to sign up, but
was messed around with, (ist) Screen name, someone always had mine, (2nd) when i was able to get to the submit button i was then asked to complete the sneaky Captha picture option ?. then the screen name flagged up again with, this name is already taken. Anyone know anything about this archive. I looked at some digitally imaged, (scanned and photographed) books that were in print, these books also had an option to buy at amazon. I closed the site and checked my e mail account to see if hitting the submit button had registered me. I found an e mail ad from amazon? If this archive site is sound i will give it another try signing in , but at the moment i am doubtful about this archive.

Hi guys, I connected a usb caddy to my laptop running Ubuntu 12, and a dialog box appeared restricting me access to the HDD. (attached images) of two different HDDs I tried to access with this caddy. Anyone know what this is? and/or has practical experience on how to fix it?
I also tried to access with Linux Mint with same result and dialog box. This HDD has mostly MOV video files on it, and a day previous to inserting the usb caddy I had installed Openshot and Avidemux on Ubuntu (if that is relevant )? I am using a 1.8 dual core laptop .Any help with this matter welcomed as the HDD have been left to the side until I find someone who has overcome the same problem. Many thanks, Cheers.

Hi Guys, I am having a problem with a dim screen. I have tried to reinstall a new display driver, but the dialog box options say I have the latest driver installed. Can I uninstall the current driver? What happens to my screen if I uninstall the current driver?
I want to uninstall, reinstall the driver to make sure that the one installed it is not corrupted or defective?
I installed a Linux Mint 17 distro onto this laptop on a separate HDD, and have since learned that this distro has issues with or / creating a dim screen on computers? I have also tried holding down the FN key and tapping the lightbulb key on my Dell Latitude D620, didn’t work. When using the laptop with internal battery the screen is dim, when AC adaptor cable is attached the screen returns to normal. Any ideas how to get the screen back to normal. Cheers visionman

OK Stiltman, 10 out of 10 back on board, eureka! It’s working again. You would not believe the circumstances; yes one of the adaptors did not work even though the little green light on the adaptor came on. Battery was flat as a pancake but charged up fully once the generic adaptor was plugged in, and I forgot to take the battery out the second time. After reading the post I tried the Dell adaptor as soon as I got home, didn't work, I didn't think the generic would work either so I just left it on the side, about an hour and a half later I thought I will give it a try nothing to lose, I forgot to take out the battery I could not believe it when the little green light came on, the charging light. Many thanks for all the advice regarding this matter, all the best

Hi stiltman , thanks for your recent reply . I think you are spot on regarding these a c adaptors. However, it is academic at the moment, as when I tried to turn on the Laptop, before and after plugging in the Dell replacement adaptor (the one with the 1.7 a Input value), the Laptop would not start. Originally when the frayed adaptor cables wires touched the Laptop went dead, I very quickly removed the cable ( 5-7 sec) I restarted the laptop and it started up, loaded Win and I switched it off, thinking I had a near miss. I don't know if it is a discharged battery I left it for about 10 days with only a half charge or less in the battery. Anyway its a new post regarding changing over the licence to another laptop if I can, and coming back to this laptop later to see if I can gain some insights on how to go about fixing it. thanks a lot for your help in this matter, all the best, visionman:)

Hi stiltman thanks , you seem pretty knowledgeable about these adaptors Ii have included the MODEL and Part numbers of the two Dell adaptors. Also a few corrections to the input and output values of the generic adaptor.
As you can see both the two replacement adaptors are quite similar values

Dell replacement has exact same output values, but a slightly higher input value at 1.7 A
The generic adaptor having the exact same input value but higher output values in Ampere at 4.62 A

Are you saying that the higher input value at 1.7 A on the Dell replacement adaptor will have no detrimental effect if I plug it into the laptop? Just checking; it’s the same in every other aspect same PA Family voltage and Hz and output Amperes.
    Again many thanks. visionman
