- Keep per Cremastra. This got 113 hits last year and 60 so far this year indicating that it's a useful term. Given that its unambiguous and harmless there is no reason to delete. Thryduulf (talk) 12:10, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete as per precedence in other RfD discussions which have occurred over the years regarding erroneous/unnecessary full stops. Best keep it consistent. Steel1943 (talk) 21:23, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete as WP:UNNATURAL, per everyone else. If you want "Article." to redirect to "Article", that should be done at the MediaWiki level, and Phabricator is thataway. But I still think it's better to have this as a redlink to make it more immediately obvious to the editor that they made a (subtle, not immediately spottable) mistake so that it can be fixed. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 17:07, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- Keep - per WP:CHEAP, as it's harmless and objectively useful to people, given the pageviews. Note that being useful to someone is expressly listed as a valid keep reason for RFDs. Fieari (talk) 05:41, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure you can conclude that it's "objectively useful" from a trickle of pageviews, because there's no way to know how someone got sent to the redirect in the first place. And as I said just above, I don't think this one is truly harmless, because it obscures a markup/MOS error that an editor might make. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 15:04, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Markup and MOS errors would be trivially detectable by using whatlinkshere and are never a reason to make it harder for readers to find the content they are looking for. Thryduulf (talk) 18:35, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- it's linked to thrice outside of the context of this rfd nomination, evidently by accident every time cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 20:22, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- You're missing the point. If this redirect exists, anyone that accidentally makes a new (incorrect) link to "Canada." is likely to not notice it because it'll show up as a blue link, whereas if the redirect doesn't exist, it'll show up as red, making the error much easier to spot immediately. Thus, this redirect is harmful. And "what links here" is fine to correct existing errors, but it won't help for spotting new ones, as no one is going to check it regularly. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 14:32, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

- As noted in the Flag of the District of Columbia. discussion I would add a point that the title with the full stop may suggest the word "Canada" alone is an abbreviation for something though that discussion may be slightly different due to Washington, D.C. having the abbreviation I think the point still applies thus I would question if such redirects are harmless and unambiguous and RFD#DELETE item 2 may apply. Although not that likely the likes of Canada.ca and Canada.com as noted above could potentially cause confusion which is also an additional factor. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:39, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

This redirect was automatically created following a page move due to this title being rather ambiguous with other pages that share this title, like White House Deputy Chief of Staff. - Elite slaves → Slave-owning slaves (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
This sounds like a vague phrase (and google seems to back me up). I don't think a slave needs to themself own another slave in order to be considered an "elite slave". Duckmather (talk) 20:57, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes that's true, and I'm relaxed about this. On the other hand, it's a question of helping readers to navigate; and there is no other current article that it could sensibly point at. If one is written one day, it's not set in stone and can be altered. Ttocserp 21:24, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Agree with Duckmather that linking "elite slave" to "slave-owning slaves" is misleading enough not to be useful as a redirect. A primary example is temple slaves, who occur in several cultures and were certainly "elite" in some sense. Were concubines elite slaves? Sometimes, but is their favored status defined by owning other slaves? In ancient Rome, elite slaves encompassed public slaves working in the state bureaucracy who had privileges not accorded to others; slaves of the emperor, who were eligible for early manumission; and educated or high-skill slaves who worked in large upper-class households, who also were more likely to be manumitted. Technically, a Roman slave could not own anything, though they might manage other slaves and in effect "own" them. Defining the privileged status of some slaves does not rest solely or even primarily on whether they held any form of control over other slaves, let alone the legalistic issue of ownership. Defining "elite slave" as a category seems impractical; a link would be useful only to an article that discussed what positions of privilege might be available within a culturally specific system of slavery. - Delete quick google suggests this isn't used a technical term with any specific meaning; the first couple results are completely unrelated both to the concept of slaves owning slaves and each other, aside from generally being about slaves with varying kinds of higher status or privileged. There's no such movie titled Krrish 1 or Krish 1. M S Hassan 🤓☝🏻 11:16, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Keep [Rationale for all of the above Krrish related redirect discussions.] Shorthand search aids abound here on enwiki especially if they help readers and are common alternate titles. Similarly Captain America 1, Iron Man 1, Mafia 1 etc. all exist. No policy based rationale is there for a deletion of these. If Krrish 3 exists, a reader would expectantly search for a 1 and a 2 (and so on, as I did), Krrish 3 already notes: "The film was referred to as both Krrish 2 and Krrish 3 in media reports." A retargeting of these articles may be discussed but a wholesay deletion is not the solution (my targets were primarily based on the release order at Krrish (film series)).
- Coming to Koi... Mil Gaya, the first film of the series, the working titles of its sequels were expectantly a play on its title as noted here, here and here. So these shouldn't really be in dispute.
- Also I wasn't notified of the deletion discussion here despite creating these redirects. Gotitbro (talk) 11:23, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- And Krish is a common mis/alt spelling of Krrish, both of which can also exist redirects. Gotitbro (talk) 11:26, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- You searched for Krrish 1 and 2 because you didn't know that such movies doesn't exist, Krrish franchise is a popular movie franchise in India so I don't think anyone else would search for Krrish 1 or 2 knowing that such movies doesn't exist, also per WP:OTHERSTUFF just because Captain America 1 exists as a redirect doesn't mean Krrish 1 should also exist. M S Hassan 🤓☝🏻 11:53, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Huh? That was a response to the 'no such movies exist' claim, not sure how "other stuff" applies here when these were only examples for WP:ALTTITLEs. Redirects need not only cater to the official names of films, plenty of sources use the alternative names (some of which have already been listed above). We would be better off discussing a retarget here than going around in circles about alt titles. Gotitbro (talk) 12:23, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- What source uses Krrish 1, Koi Mil Gaya 2 and Koi Mil Gaya 3? M S Hassan 📬✍🏻 12:33, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- The sources you provided only uses Krrish 2 M S Hassan 📬✍🏻 12:36, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- That is incorrect, you would know if you read the articles.
- Bollywood Life which discusses the title discrepancy/controversy in detail lists all of these (including Koi Mil Gaya 2 and Koi Mil Gaya 3).
- This article by an Indian SF editor outright lists the first sequel (Krrish) as Koi... Mil Gaya 2.
- Krrish 1 is pretty self-explanatory, but here you go, Outlook (discusses the title controversies, including the Krrish vs. Krish spellings), Indian Express (about the reasons for titling the films as such), Great Bong (film review website). Gotitbro (talk) 15:35, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Bollywoodlife is not a reliable source also they are not claiming that Krrish's another name is Koi Mil Gaya 2 and Krrish 3's another name is Koi Mil Gaya 3 instead they are asking
If we accept the trilogy theory, shouldn’t it be Koi… Mil Gaya 3? But then, where was Koi…Mil Gaya 2?
M S Hassan 📬✍🏻 16:30, 24 August 2024 (UTC)- The whole host of other sources that have been listed above discuss the same, need not pontificate on Bollywood Life alone (which was only meant as an exemplar of usage and RS should not really arise). All of which clearly establish a usage pattern, you need to first read what the purpose of WP:REDIRECT is rather than engage in selective analysis of the listed sources here.
- And from what I can gather from these sources and the content at Krrish 3, Krrish 1 can be retargetted to Krrish and Krrish 2 to Krrish 3.
- That Koi... Mil Gaya 2 was a clearly a working title has already been established and so has the usage of Koi... Mil Gaya 3.
- This is my final say on this, the sources and usage have been laid down and I will wait for uninvolved editors to comment. Gotitbro (talk) 17:07, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- I have already read WP:REDIRECT. The redirects you created are not official alt titles, and I don't think anyone will search for them, which is why they should be deleted. M S Hassan 📬✍🏻 03:27, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

- Latex (rubber) → Latex (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
The word latex is colloquially used to refer to a small subset of latices: natural rubber latex, which is used in gloves, condoms, etc. While both the current target and Natural rubber cover this topic, there's a fair bit more detail in the latter, including a Uses section that gets into the thing most people picture when they hear "latex". So I suggest a retarget to Natural rubber. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 20:27, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Retarget to Natural rubber. I wasn't previously aware that latex referred to anything other than rubber before, and the latex article is primarily about non-rubber latexes with a smaller portion devoted to what is commonly known as latex in most of the English speaking world outside academia and material sciences. It's a broad concept article where people are looking for the thing they call latex. A hatnote will be needed. Fieari (talk) 07:13, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Delete per WP:NOTFAQ with precedent at eg Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2015 August 2#Facts on horses, and also due to the Quaylean spelling. -- Tavix (talk) 15:51, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

- Delete, but NOT per WP:PANDORA, which I would argue should never be used as an argument in RFD discussions. Let's look at each redirect on their own merits. In this case, we have two compounding mistakes... a misspelling of volcano, plus adding the superfluous "facts". One mistake could be arguable as plausible, two not so much, so delete because of that, not because of pandora. Fieari (talk) 05:45, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

- The Switch → Nintendo Switch (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Oh noes. An editor changed the target redirect to the video game console Nintendo Switch from the longstanding common household item switch (as in light switch, etc.). Maybe a redirect to the dab page would be necessary as both entries have no primary topic. ScarletViolet tc 10:49, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, since the release of the Nintendo Switch, its been pointing to the dab page. It's also very unusual for those typing "The Switch" when they are looking for the page switch because its unlikely would include the definite article and also because most people do it in all lowercase. I also note that the video game console gets way more views than films titled "The Switch"
but idk if people actually type "The Switch" looking for the console. Just like someone typing "The Tube" is likely looking for the London Underground metro system (it currently redirects there) than the normal article about various types of tubes at tube (disambiguation) JuniperChill (talk) 18:36, 31 August 2024 (UTC) - The Retarget to Switch (disambiguation) tbh. that one also has switches that are the cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 11:59, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Retarget back to the dab page. Looking for what is actually the primary topic here (rather than just blindly assuming as those above appear to have done) we find that there are three topics that have Wikipedia articles that could be primary: The Switch (2010 film), The Switch (1967 film) and The Switch (TV series), but none of them are clearly primary over the others so the dab page is best. Thryduulf (talk) 14:11, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Retarget to DAB. There are multiple possibilities to what the searcher could be looking for, let's help them out. Fieari (talk) 05:49, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- I was about to close this discussion, and understood that all participants are supporting the nomination. Then checked the history of the redirect and saw that it was JuniperChill who had changed the target to the game with summary
surely the Nintendo Switch is primary for this term
. I re-read JuniperChill's comment multiple times, and I'm unsure about the stand of the editor, especially the part aboutidk if people actually type "The Switch" looking for the console.
Jay 💬 15:34, 8 September 2024 (UTC)- Sorry if I got this comment here mixed up with my edit summary as I must have forgotten what I said when I changed the redirect target. My stance is that when people type "The Switch", they are likely looking for the Nintendo Switch. If they type "the switch", they are likely looking for the general term. I have also added a link above stating that the console gets 10x the views as The Switch (2010 film) and other films titled "The Switch" get virtually nothing. I have also crossed out the part to prevent any confusion. JuniperChill (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

- Keep - while it might not be the most useful, deleting it would be less useful. If the unicode character represents thermodynamics then we should redirect there BugGhost🦗👻 00:46, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Deleting it would at least make it clear that we have no content on this symbol. As a reader, I would have trouble understanding why some very abstract character would redirect me to a physics article with no explanation of the symbol. 1234qwer1234qwer4 14:31, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

- Weak Keep - On the balance of things, I think I prefer keeping the user on wikipedia when we have information they might be looking for rather than to offsite or crosswiki them. The symbol means thermodynamic, we have information on what that means, so it's the best target. That said, I would not strenuously object to crosswiki linking it to wiktionary. I would strenuously object to deleting the redirect altogether. Fieari (talk) 05:57, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Not mentioned in target. This appears to be an acronym for Ctiizenship by investment, but results for a search (which also includes CBIS) includes many things, none of them related to economic citizenship, and I don't really see the plural used. Rusalkii (talk) 03:58, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

- Also I think "List of" is an unlikely search term. LibStar (talk) 05:47, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

- @LibStar, @Thryduulf: Based on the prefix finder, it looks like we have 1,883 articles that start with "List of ambassadors". That's what makes this also strike me as a very plausible prefix to any "ambassadors of" search. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:18, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
