This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Disambiguations. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Disambiguations|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Disambiguations. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

- There is another avenue for this. Redirect per the below. Conyo14 (talk) 20:01, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Conyo14 disambiguations come through AfD as they are mainspace pages. Please say what the avenue is if I'm wrong. — Karnataka 20:23, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

The result was redirect to Document (album). Liz Read! Talk! 19:35, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

It's possible someone looking for "King of Birds" is looking for some bird, but the history of this disambiguation page shows that there is no consensus of what bird. They could be looking for the R.E.M. song. I don't think any of the other choices are likely. At first I edited the page down, but it should probably be deleted or possibly redirected to Document (album) which mentions, but does not discuss about the song. - Redirect to Document (album). Shouldn't need any hatnotes as I doubt those terms would be easily confused for each other. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 04:30, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Redirect to Document (album) - This looks like an early attempt to disambiguate something that nobody would ever be confused about. There is a lovely Kingbird but I doubt that anyone interested would mistakenly search for it as "King of Birds". The only search possibility is the R.E.M. song so redirect there as basic housekeeping. Also note that until today this page was referenced unnecessarily at Kingbird (disambiguation) (that one is a proper name) which I will fix. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:50, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

The result was delete current article and then move Ceratodus (genus) to Ceratodus. Daniel (talk) 12:47, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ceratodus (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Needless disambiguation page, as there are only two topics. The extinct lungfish genus seems to be the primary topic (the Queensland settlement is a small hamlet), going by pageview counts prior to the move, so it should be the primary title per WP:DAB: A disambiguation page with only two meanings is not necessary if one of them is the primary topic for that term

- Given the reclassification of things that older works say to be Ceratodus but are not named such now, Neoceratodus is a plausible third place to direct readers to, making this not a two-topic disambiguation. Uncle G (talk) 15:12, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
- Keep: Don't believe there is a primary topic here and the page is useful for helping readers navigate to the page they are looking for. // Timothy :: talk 07:30, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- This is demonstrably not true. The extinct lungfish is the primary topic by at least a factor of 5 [1]. Hemiauchenia (talk) 07:36, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Daniel (talk) 22:04, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- Keep: following Uncle G's lead, I added Neoceratodus as a third target, tipping the scales into useful-DAB territory. Owen× ☎ 13:49, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

- Delete Nom has it right; the genus has a strong claim as the primary topic, and for readers there is no reason for (nor any benefit in) landing at Ceratodus (genus) when searching for Neoceratodus, as we have articles for both genera and they are multiply linked by hatnote and in text. Two topics, best resolved by hatnote. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 08:31, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- It's the other way around. People searching for things that used to be named Ceratodus need some way of knowing that Neoceratodus is where they now need to go. Uncle G (talk) 14:04, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, turned it round. The point remains - we don't want to vector people looking for Ceratodus to Neoceratodus because the original genus name still remains. There is a (counts) 22/28 chance that they do not actually want to go to Neoceratodus. The correct place for the reader to figure that out is at the genus article, not at a disambiguation junction. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 09:07, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- Move as suggested below seems suitable. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 11:20, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Delete and Move Ceratodus (genus) to Ceratodus, adjusting hatnotes. The town (population 28) seems to have pageviews about a tenth those of the genus - see here, complicated by the fact that the genus was at the base name until late December when it was moved. So my !vote is really Revert December 2023 pagemove because the genus is the primary topic. PamD 10:26, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

- Move Ceratodus (genus) to Ceratodus, precisely per User:PamD, and per WP:PRIMARY TOPIC. A hatnote is a wonderful thing. BD2412 T 21:20, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

Relisting comment: Seems like Move is stronger here, but there is some consensus for keep.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, TLA (talk) 11:13, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Move – The genus has been demonstrated to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Svartner (talk) 20:52, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Delete and Move Ceratodus (genus) to Ceratodus per PamD. This isn't so much a deletion discussion, more a discussion about reverting a previous move. TarnishedPathtalk 11:19, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
