Hi Okip. I note that you did some good work with the Article Incubator when it was first set up, but then you stopped. I'm looking into the incubator as concerns have been raised about it so I'd be interested to learn why you stopped being involved, yet carried on with WP:RESCUE. :Flatscan, I thought I would use the E-mail new password too. I will try it again now.
:See, i wanted to stay off wikipedia at work, so I had a complex way of making sure I did. Every night I would change my email address to my sons address, and then scramble the password. This went on for about two weeks. Then when I got home from work, I clicked the "mail a new password" to my sons account. He would then open his account, and I would take the password, updating with my new password. Well, I think on Monday (?) the e-mail to say confirm a new address somehow expired. I am sure I put the password in correctly. I stepped away from the computer and asked my son to press the first link, not the second, and based on the history of the webpage he did.
:I was kind of wishing that this was it, that I would finally leave this nasty addiction. It was kind of nice to be off for a few days. But alas, here I am again. As you know I have left numerous times, I have used forced wiki-vacations, etc.

Under Mariano Ospina Pérez' aegis, the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia successfully consolidated the nation's coffee industry and promoted it in the world markets to great effect. Colombia became the largest producer of prime Coffea arabica coffee in the world. He laid a very solid corporative foundation, and today, the Colombian Coffee Federation congregates and supports over 500,000 independent coffee growers and small farmers.

Let's Have a Proper Forum discuss these Issues
Thank you very much for all your advice, guidance, help, efforts and recommendations. I do NOT wish to have any sort of altercation or confrontation. I have tried to make my contributions based on historical facts and information available in the public domain. I have not posted my own words, thoughts or opinions. They are mere historical and undeniable facts, taken from reliable and accessible sources, mainly History books and industry publications. I know that most of these sources are in Spanish, and thus, I have offered to present copies or pdfs of the same for review. Nevertheless, there are some pretty good and reliable sources in English as well. I may not have quoted or referenced them perfectly, but they are there, accessible, reliable and easy to find and read. I have also requested several individual editors, groups and task forces to review and proof-read the article. I am not insisting or pushing for biased thoughts, ideas or opinions. I am only interested in facts and neutral and truthful information. This is precisely why I have insistently asked for help and invited contributions and editors to participate in the discussion and project. What I do not appreciate is the unfounded and unjustified mutilation of the article. I welcome, invite and ask for independent, neutral and experienced editing help, specifically from those from academia, historians and well versed editors. I apologize if my level of writing, contribution and editing is not at your same level. I would like to take these issues to the proper forum for discussion and resolution. Thank you very much. --Grancafé (talk) 00:11, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

The Big Picture
I am trying to convey that there are two ways to view an idea or concept, the myopic and narrow view and the broad and wide angle. I am proposing to reintroduce into the main article the entire section (here above) entitled “Impact on the Colombian Coffee Industry”, to reveal how Ospina Coffee has influenced and impacted both, the national coffee industry and the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia.

You are not getting the idea. I gave you the example of Harvard University and its alumni. You responded saying that those are to separate issues. I don’t agree with your opinion, but I admit that it was not a very good example. So let me try again. Please go to the webpage of Harvard University (http://www.harvard.edu/), then go to their page called Harvard and the Community (http://www.community.harvard.edu/), and then go to their section on Economic Impact (http://www.community.harvard.edu/economic_impact.php). There you will find an in-depth, comprehensive and exhaustive article covering this most important and relevant matter.

Now, you tell me why Ospina Coffee is forbidden and disqualified to present its socio-economic impact on Colombia’s coffee industry and in particular in regards to the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia? I truly believe that we must invite community members from academia, scholars, historians, economist and sociologist to participate in this discussion. Perhaps I am not the person most qualified to write this article due to my language and encyclopedic limitations, but the historical and socio-economic facts of the matter are undeniable, most relevant and fundamental. This is why I have insistently invited other well versed and trained editors to participate in this project. Don’t you agree? Thanks, --Grancafé (talk) 01:40, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Referencing BLPs
I/Okip, Thanks for your comments on my ideas. It basically consists of two parts:1) a 50,000 long list is unworkable - break it up into workable parts and it's solvable. (more on that later) 2) Whilst it is possible for us mere mortal editors to use the various cat scan/list compare tools to do the breaking up, it takes time (more than 20 minutes for me to load fresh lists into WP:AWB and effort (effort away from actually referencing articles) to do so. Therefore, if this is a major problem according to Jimbo and Arbcom, then they must make some sort of automated system to do the splitting up of the lists into workable lists - by topic, not by date that they were tagged! I hope people don't think I want automated tagging - I only want automated list making.

The WP:Australia project had a list of over 2000 names just over 2 weeks ago. It's now under 900. 900 is still fairly unworkable, so we've split them up again into smaller topics. Other lists have popped up, Cricket, Rugby union, India and probably many more. This is all do-able, but it does take time, it does get a bit boring, it can be tempting for some editors to put the first google hit they see on it and remove the tag, but it can work. One other good thing about these lists, is that you can use the related changes link to see all edits to them... great to keep an eye on pages without clogging up your watchlist (almost like having multiple watchlists).The-Pope (talk) 16:33, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
:You will be happy to note the list has dropped by 7,000, from a high of 52,000 to just over 46,000 last I checked :)
:I need suggestions of what I can do. I find waiting for someone else to do something usually never pans out.
:I can ask the appropriate channels, but unless someone with the technical skills sees your vision, the way I have seen your vision, it will be a long slog :/ Okip (the new and improved Ikip) 17:03, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
::I've had my say, and setup our project to get the job done. I want to keep out of the drama until at least the end of the month and then show everyone else what 20-30 committed editors (thats probably about how many we've had) can do in a month. If one project can reference 2000 articles in a month, then the entire project should be able to do 45316 in a few months.The-Pope (talk) 17:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
:::RE: Wikipedia:Bot requests#Unreferenced biography of living persons bot to get projects involved in referencing.
:::Okip, what would project Rugby union need to do. I'm willing to help, and so far have been the only person to try to reference the articles supplied by The Pope and I think I've only managed 80 out of the original 350. The project is presently more interested in fighting over a flag (please see the heavy discussion on the talk page), and you are shouting into a gale. But I'd be happy to monitor the pages thrown up by a bot if that's what is required. Cheers FruitMonkey (talk) 19:46, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
::::You did everything you need to. all I need is an "okay" from an active member of the project.
::::Funny you should mention the flag, I about wrote, "in between your arguments over the color of the flag" but then thought best of it, and didn't write that...
::::I will let betacommand know your project wants a list, he can make it, then I will post it on your page. The daily bot will start hopefully soon. There is an unexpected problem with a past arbcom decision, which we will have to iron out first.
::::The pope had a contest idea, which I think is wonderful. I asked Durova who to ask about this. I would be willing to put $20 in the pot as a reward, I am sure other editors would too. Okip <small>(formerly Ikip)</small> 19:53, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
:::::Okip, I've actioned the last group of BLPs you posted today on WP Rugby union. Four of them we would have no interest in as they are Rugby League, hope the rest can be released. FruitMonkey (talk) 09:43, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the warm welcome at my talk page. Actually so far I helped rescue an [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarah G. Thank you again and let's hope I could help.<br />Mohamed Magdy (talk) 10:46, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
A notification that the Templates for Discussion discussion (oy, repetition) has been taken to a deletion review discussion. The Article Rescue Squadron was notified, and as notifications to previous involved parties isn't normal practise, I and a few ARS members agreed that, in the interests of transparency and fairness, we should let everyone know...hence this talkpage message ;).

If anyone has an issue with me sending these out, do drop me a note on my talkpage. Regards, Ironholds (talk) 10:31, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

A structural solution to good-faith deletion battles
Okip, this is a warning that I believe your accusations against named editors in good standing are in violation of our policies on personal attacks. Specifically, the section which defines one form of personal attack as:
Would you look over Wikipedia:Deletions and Openness and see what you think? I agree that civility is part of the problem, but I really think it will be easier to reverse this trend using software, rather than "excommunicating" the quality-control teams from the project. --HectorMoffet (talk) 08:02, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

I am making a formal request for you to refactor your comments, or to provide specific evidence of the wrongdoing you are accusing these editors of. Your comments amount to accusations without evidence, and if you do not refactor your comments, or if you repeat these accusations without substantiation, I may report your conduct for review by other administrators. Feel free to respond to this at my talk page if any aspect of it is not clear to you. Fritzpoll (talk) 11:26, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
:Well, this puts me in a precarious situation. Damned if I do, damned if I don't.
:I was banned for 24 hours by an <s>"involved"</s> "non-impartial" editor, then the ban was reversed, on the condition that I "tone down the comments against MZMcBride". So I can't "provide specific evidence of the wrongdoing you are accusing these editors of", because I will be in violation of the reason I was unblocked.
:So the only solution you are giving me is to delete my comments.
:I would be happy to revise those comments by striking out any inaccurate comment(s), if fences and windows allows me too. Beyond this, I genuinely fear being blocked, but I fear being blocked for not doing anything either. ::You cannot make accusations without evidence - it is up to you to decide how you want to handle it, and that your problem arises from your making prior unsubstantiated comments is not my concern and I am not going to unilaterally interfere in an administrator's unblock conditions. But substantial evidence must be provided, otherwise these claims must be retracted. All of your invective is focussed on www.sofixit.org - beyond being aware of its existence, I have no information about its contents. Based on your comments and endless questions/accusations about membership, I am assuming that you haven't any either. If you do have information that I'm not aware of, you may forward it to me, with the knowledge that I may respond to it on-wiki if it is based on fallacious assumptions rather than hard facts. If you do not, you must refactor your comments - a simple replacement of your contents with "[redacted as a courtesy]" will be sufficient and requires noone else's permission. I can handle the outstanding redactions myself. Fritzpoll (talk) 08:28, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Form Follows Function
"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats." -- Howard Aiken

I see you're something of a rebel yourself. Don't let them get to you. The worst they can do is throw you off their sinking ship. You should really ask yourself whether Wikipedia is worth the struggle, though. I'm here largely because the media places unwarranted importance on Wikipedia (and because Wikipedia Google-bombs every subject, causing it to rise to the top of the search on almost every subject), and someone needs to hold people accountable for the lies and shameless propaganda which breeds and multiplies here on the Internet's toilet seat. Because form follows function, and Wikipedia exists to create a dysfunctional wikiality as seen through the eyes of angry white Family Guy nerds, it probably can't be fixed. The best anyone can do is try to limit the collateral damage it causes outside of its little demesne. Hi Okip/Ikip. I hope you are rehabilitated by now. I have been working on several articles about the Presidents of Colombia, which the great majority are just simple and meaningless stubs. I am working on expanding, correcting and adding references. But I have a problem; I don’t know how to properly do the referencing. I have tried to practice on the test page you created (User:Grancafe/test), following the instructions you gave me, but it is not working, and I am very frustrated. Could you please see what the problem is in my practice page? Perhaps I need better directions and better instruction. :: I don't think you'll be indefinitely banned soon. The issue is that you're pissing off people. We're all humans, and because of how you're commenting, it's aggravating people. This in turn causes a perpetual cycle of rage that doesn't get anything done. I honestly think it could be a lot worse -- even though people are annoyed at you, they're not shouting "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD" quite yet. They're still trying to reason with you. Please, try to be accommodating. It will help you get your message across when you communicate in a way that doesn't make people flip out.
:: Also, a potential threat of you being banned is no excuse to not do constructive work. Proving your worth as a contributor is a fantastic, nay, miraculous way one can remain unbanned from Wikipedia. I do not wish to engage in conversation beyond the talk page of the RFC, for several reasons. That is why I moved two editors conversations back to the RFC. You repeatedly made allegations against me, if you were at all honourable (which I'm fast concluding you are not) you would retract them and apologise or produce evidence and a complaint in a regular venue. Instead, you remove negative comments about yourself from your talk page, and are unapologetic about posting unevidenced allegations, personal attack, and out of context quotes about me, in prominent pages. :::::::Again, I ask, "what behaviour?" What evidence is there of any secret coordination? Some people don't like what was done, fair enough. But it was done openly and logged on wiki. I'll admit that my attention to Kevin's actions was drawn by an offsite forum (that's not a secret) - but where is the evidence of collusion or even probably cause of such? This is just smears by people who don't like the action. So, we discuss the action, the policy and the encyclopedia - and I don't waste my time responding to smears and innuendo. Hi Ikip (Ikip=Ikeep honor, principles and truth), thank you very much for your kind message. I have tried to look into what is going on with you and the wolves, and it seems mayor. It is totally out of my league and perhaps out of my interest. Nevertheless, as a word of encouragement, see Galileo Galilei who almost lost his life to the ridiculous accusations of the corrupt Roman Inquisition for telling the world that the earth went around the sun and not the other way around. It happens, the most absurd and bizarre, and that is the way life is. I would draw your attention to this particular discussion. Presently, I am inclined to agree with Guy; blocking would not be appropriate but, as someone previously uninvolved in these matters, I should strongly suggest that you refrain from commenting upon the genesis of the RfC (motives, personalities, etc.) on those pages. I would comment that even the best faith commentary that is not pertaining to the subject on the page may be considered disruptive if it is continued regardless of requests not to do so. Under the circumstances, this is a semi official warning not to continue making those edits to the BLP RfC page that are not specifically commenting upon the issue and a suggestion that you raise your concerns upon the genesis of the RfC at a separate venue. I don't know whether it was obvious, but a year ago we seemed to be (in my case passionately) on the same side in the inclusion debate that resulted in A Man in Black moving on. As far as I can see, we also have the same attitude to cherishing newbies' first articles. I've proposed (here) that we raise the bar for new contributions, and this has been adopted in points (1) and (2) in the proposal to close the RFC. Smart idea. I've long suggested that we give people some incentives to actually edit wikipedia and make it fun but my proposals were ignored. == Enthusiam and consensus ==

Hi Okip, thanks for the nice comments you posted on my talk page the other day. However I fear that the claim that my "enthusiasm is contagious and inspiring" is undeserved. I have already given up on the BLP RfC. It seems that it will end like every other Wikipedia poll: a small minority who wants a particular outcome will persist until opponents get tired and walk away, and then they will declare that a "consensus" has been reached.

I have come to believe that deletionists are generally moved by unconscious instincts that have nothing to do with the welfare of Wikipedia. Therefore it is no surprise that they are unmoved by any amount of statistics or logical arguments. (Indeed, it seems that the sure way to end a thread in the BLP RfC discussions is to post real data on the "damage" done by those BLPs. Instead of analyzing the data and its implications, the discussion just moves to other threads.)

Wikipedia "consensus mechanism" was developed to handle disputes among two editors who disagree on content edits to one article. It basically says that when agreeement seems impossible, one of the sides should walk away from the fight, and let the the most persistent editor win. That principle will often let the worst choice prevail; but this is not a serious problem in ordinary editing, because the damage is confined to only one article, and because the damage will probably be repaired by other editors at a later time.

Unfortunately that "consensus mechanism" is being used also to decide policies and guidelines; and there its shortcomings are much more damaging. Indeed, practically every page in the Wikipedia:* namespace is the "consensus" a small minority of those who helped write that page, who are naturally its stauch defenders. Even in the rare cases where opposing editors are brought into the discussion (as in the recent BLP RfC), the final "consensus" is reached when the opposers get tired and walk away from the discussion. Now, while in theory anyone can edit a guideline, as any other article, in practice that never happens: indeed many editors will oppose changes to an existing rule simply because they assume that the contents of Wikipedia:* are "the law of the land" and reflect the majority opinion. Moreover a guideline may affect millions of articles; so those small minorities who create the wikipedia guidelines become "super-editors" whose opinion automatically prevails over that of other editors — even if these outnumber them by 1000:1

A few months ago I found a poll in the talk archives of the unreferenced template, about the proper placement of that tag. The three alternatives on ballot were "top of article", "bottom of article", and "talk page". (Needless to say, the fourth obvious possibility "nowhere" was not even on the ballot.) There were about 30 votes, largely by people who had taken part on the design of that template, which were split roughly evenly among the three alternatives. The most voted one was "talk page"; the least voted (9 votes) was "top of article". Well, you know which one was declared "consensus". I expect that the BLP RfC will end in the same way.

Thanks for that, and while we're on the subject on BLP, well there is a survey of BLP photos I took and I need some feedback on which ones should be used, if you would be willing, and it should be a bit of relief after the depressing nonsense of the past few weeks. :I wouldn't worry about any policy changes as the chances of anyone bothering to implement it are pretty minimal. And as I said, I wonder if my comments got reverted?? on the AN/RFARB/RFC nobody checks to see if the refs work, and a lot of times at WP:FAR where the unsourced old FAs go, a lot of guys just ref the last sentence of the para and a lot of people assume it covers the whole para; not to mention the fact that many people just put in some ref that doesn't even agree; if people bother checking they might invent refs to obscure books that aren't in many libraries. But aside from dishonesty or incomplete reffing assumed to be complete, I doubt there will be enoug inspectors to do anything meaningful, and if they chop off 80% of an article for being unsourced, I think people will just add fake refs. I saw one case of a BLP Prod, the author just replaced it with a cut and paste with only 50% paraphrased a little bit. The other 50% of the sentences were untouched verbatim <font color="GoldenRod">YellowMonkey</font> (<font color="#FA8605">vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll</font>) 05:41, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Deleting well referenced material as copyright violations is absolutely appalling.[1] Some of these "violations" are no more than one sentence!

This fanaticism by these "self-appointed [copyright] guardians"[2] makes any prolific editor a target.

Wikipedia:Article Incubator

Hi Okip. I note that you did some good work with the Article Incubator when it was first set up, but then you stopped. I'm looking into the incubator as concerns have been raised about it so I'd be interested to learn why you stopped being involved, yet carried on with WP:RESCUE. What do you feel are the essential differences between the Incubator and Rescue, and why do you prefer to continue with Rescue but not Incubator? SilkTork *YES! 19:12, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

 1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
 2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

For the record, I have no interest in all in getting you blocked, but I don't see why you keep trying to stop a productive discussion for personal grudges.--Yaksar (let's chat) 00:19, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[]

You were a significant contributor to the rescue template, so you were notified

Per section 3 of the guidelines when nominating a template for deletion/discussion, (Wikipedia:Templates for discussion), "it is considered civil to notify the creator and main contributors of the template that you are nominating the template." I simply notified a few users who contributed significantly to the template, per the revision history for the page— Located Here. User:Okip, you were a significant contributor to the template. There was no "canvassing", "selective canvassing", etc., and it is very inappropriate to insinuate such. I followed the instructions. Period. Northamerica1000(talk) 04:57, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[]

A structural solution to good-faith deletion battles

Would you look over Wikipedia:Deletions and Openness and see what you think? I agree that civility is part of the problem, but I really think it will be easier to reverse this trend using software, rather than "excommunicating" the quality-control teams from the project. --HectorMoffet (talk) 08:02, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[]

Dispute resolution survey

Dispute Resolution – Survey Invite

Hello Okip. I am currently conducting a study on the dispute resolution processes on the English Wikipedia, in the hope that the results will help improve these processes in the future. Whether you have used dispute resolution a little or a lot, now we need to know about your experience. The survey takes around five minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist in analyzing the results of the survey. No personally identifiable information will be released.

Please click HERE to participate.
Many thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.

You are receiving this invitation because you have had some activity in dispute resolution over the past year. For more information, please see the associated research page. Steven Zhang DR goes to Wikimania! 11:27, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[]

Sockpuppetry

You have been
blocked from editing for a period of two weeks for abusing multiple accounts. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text , but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

I am also going to bring the matter of your multiple socks to the admin's noticeboard. If you wish to respond to the thread there, you can do so on this talk page and me (or another editor) will copy your comments over. — Coren (talk) 15:16, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Was he blocked for evading a block with a multiple account or for malicious editing with a second account? A shame, he added some good content Jenova20 (email) 16:08, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[]
As far as I know, he was not under any extant sanctions. The block is for participating in process (in particular, XfD) with multiple accounts which is not allowed since it compromises consensus. — Coren (talk) 16:13, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[]
I see. That's a shame as i found User:Dragdrag to be a competent and friendly contributor. Hopefully he will learn from this and come back with a spring in his step. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 16:21, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[]
You really ought not to have extended the block before the discussion was closed. No need as it still had weeks to run. Make's it look like the perma ban is a fait accompli. Appalling way to treat such a legendary editor as Okip. FeydHuxtable (talk)
Well, I agree an indef block looks more punitive than anything else (after all, how is an account block going to prevent socking?) but years of socking used to sway consensus are a very, very serious infraction. I hope Okip gets it and accepts a WP:OFFER. --Cyclopiatalk 22:10, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[]
It wasn't "years of socking used to sway consensus". He had three sock accounts, one he just started last month, another he used for one day in the month before his latest one was created, and another that hasn't been used since 2009. If he had used any of them at the same time, then it would be a serious problem. Are we punishing him for something done over three years ago, or one of the more recent minor things? Indef ban seems rather harsh either way. Dream Focus 23:53, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[]
I don't know. I try not to reason in "friends vs foes" terms. I felt close to Okip as an editor, still socking is a very big no-no in my book. Also socking is a stupid thing to do, given that sooner or later, especially if you use it in controversial debates, you are going to be caught, and put yourself in deeper trouble. --Cyclopiatalk 09:58, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Sorry to see this - but consensus says banned for now.

Okip - I personally am very sorry to see the outcome here, but after discussion at AN here, it seems pretty obvious that the community has decided you need to take a break for a while. I strongly encourage you to read over the Wikipedia:Standard offer and plan on returning in the not too distant future. I've seen you do some wonderful things for the both ARS, and Wikipedia in general, and hope you'll weather this bump in the road. Best of luck to you in all. — Ched :  ?  21:28, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Agree with Ched, wholeheartedly. Hope to see you back soon -you did mistakes, but you can show you're a great editor again --Cyclopiatalk 21:43, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[]
I think its a block not a ban, small comfort I know but most people are arguing for a long break not a ban. Spartaz Humbug! 02:10, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[]
