Re: Audioscrobbler

Hi, I took a series of screenshots of the webpage, using the printscreen button. Fortunately it was easy to align the screenshots, due to the layout of the webpage. It is probably more time consuming for other webpages. I hope this is helpful.

Last.fm

You've been making lots of edits, which I mainly have no problem with, but you really should be adding a comment to explain what you changed and, if there might be a question, why. If I see no reasoning for a change, I may just revert it because it didn't seem to have a good basis. Re: Noize

Hi. In my experience, noise musicians don't use the term "noize", and they don't really consider industrial or techno music to be connected with "noise" any more than classical music, or the sound of a washing machine, or your cat being sick is connected with "noise". I think some industrial musician made up the term "power noise" to describe what was basically a kind of hard-ish techno, and hence things got confused. Of course, music is just sound regardless of what you call it, so the approach is probably what defines it. "Noise music" at heart is the most abstract and pure approach to making music with any kind of sound, or abscence thereof, regardless of considerations for dancing, understanding, or putting on a record. What gets played at "technoise" clubs is mostly just "noisy techno", occasionally edging towards more complex and abstract noise. I think the industrial music section already has some stuff on this kind of music, but they need help, because it's a terrible mess and everyone seems to want the definition of industrial to be "bands that I like". Even if that means electro-pop acts like "Skinny Puppy". (Or conversely - 70's experimental music that NEVER gets played at industrial clubs, but they think it makes them cool to call it "real industrial music"). You should help them out!

Hello, I have noticed that most of the mess and mistaken ideas regarding electronic music are due to you, among others. These articles lack consistency and logic. I appreciate that you are currently involved with various activities in your university, so, if you are not pretentious as some of youngsters today are, maybe we can still collaborate in order to make the Wiki Music Project something serious. If you are here just for fun, I guess that a blog would be better for you. The site Ishkur project is over quoted in many articles, and its reported as a not serious site, so , why you are quoting it? The music for nightclubs (literally "disco" or dance music) that is being produced in last 8 - 10 years is NOT the most important kind of electronic music. Possibly, some critics would argue that it may not be regarded as electronic music at all. Electronic music is exactly the genre that elsewhere is named Electronic Art music. The definition of electronic music as the music that is played by an electronic device could include virtually everything that is listened today (and that is not a classical music live concert). An exagerately large definition ("inclusive") is no longer a definition (I hope it will seem obvious and "logic" to you). So, I will put again in the article the "merge" notice. The article Electronic music must be deleted, and replaced with the one currently named Electronic art music. I am wondering how long it will take, and how many words I have to type here, in order to make it undoubtely clear that I am right and you are wrong. What is described in Electronic music is merely Techno, that has been renamed and cut into a hundreds of sub-sub-sub-faked genres by youngsters, DJs and some stupid press (not mentioning the mob, becouse their main interest is to sell "pills" at clubs) in order to inflate the "rave culture". Does Wikipedia support the mob? In 10 years none will remember the various DJs that are listened nowadays. K. Stockhausen, P. Schaeffer, B. duuuude, you've gotta chill. No need for the passive-aggressiveness. The point of the poll is that the merge question is black-or-white. Either it will happen or it won't. There's no compromise. Therefore, it seems it will happen if the majority of concerned editors deem it so (think of this as a kind of VfD). Yes, voting is not the best way to go about it, but you know what? I don't think you're gonna change your mind, and those who want to merge (who also seem to actually know the most about this genre) are not going to change there's. --- And point scoring? The only game that love=0 is tennis, in which case 1 is not a possible score, it starts with 15. One love is a common term in jamaican and (by natural extension) jungle communities. Never for a minute did I suspect that someone affiliated to jungle music would not know this expression. Therefore I felt that you personally attacked me for trying use an expression of peace and understanding (and that you were portraying me as the type to try to "score points" with other users by acting nice). Although this one said he had released things on several names, all were redlinks. Response: EBM v. Electro-Industrial

Hi MilkMiruku, thanks for asking - in response to User_talk:Reaverdrop#Electro-industrial - I remember "electro-industrial" being used in the late '80's in the U.S., but I've read Front 242 claiming to have introduced the term "EBM" a few years earlier than that - so I don't have information necessarily placing the introduction of "electro-industrial" at or earlier than the introduction of "EBM". I also have a compilation I picked up around 1990 or so called "Electronic Body Music" which has 242's "Body to Body", Skinny Puppy's "Assimilate", etc., which is the first I heard the term "EBM", after I'd already been familiar with "electro-industrial". Other than that I don't have a reference. On the other hand, I am also actively hostile to genre classification in general - I think being able to be easily identified as fitting into a previously established genre is a strong indicator of loss of artistic or creative value. But the labels surrounding "industrial" have some historical interest, because it is so thoroughly a contradiction - ask a purist and anything after Throbbing Gristle is not really industrial. It's really more of a sequence of influences than any consistent style - which is just how it should be. There, my two cents. - Reaverdrop 02:24, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

"to be easily identified as fitting into a previously established genre is a strong indicator of loss of artistic or creative value" it's the artists fault for not being more original. my interest in music genres is both in their history; how different artists and producers influence each other and flock together around a certain sound or style, and educational; i just really like music and not only do i want to indulge in it as much as i can, but i'd also like to be able to reference it using just a word or two without having to resort to trying to name a whole load of artist, producer, band or label names to try and get my thoughts across to another party in simple conversation. cheers for getting back to me on this. i'll have another check for references online and see if anything new turns up that might help. --MilkMiruku 02:28, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Metal Articles

Hi, I've been visiting Wikipedia for a long time, but I've just created an account. I've visited many metal articles and one thing which is of concern is that a vandal by the username User:Leyasu is at large in Wikiworld and is tampering with established articles. Some of the articles are Classic metal, Gothic metal, Glam metal, etc. Since, he has also reverted edits by you, I am informing you that I have reported that user to the administration. Check out this page - Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/3RR. I've also spoken on your behalf. Since he made some comments in the edit summary. The user thinks everything else is POV and just what he himself edits is correct. Also, he sent me a threatening message, that if I do not stop reverting, he will inform administration. I did his work myself. I wonder, why you're not reverting the edits. So, I request you to give testimony at the concerned arbiter's page. Your help would be very much valuable in keeping vandals at bay

Florida breaks

I was random page hopping and landed on Florida breaks. I was going to replace all of the current instances of "florida breaks" with "Florida breaks", but looking through the history shows that you changed them all to the lowercase in a recent edit. Before I go ahead and change them, I wanted to make sure that changing them back would be correct. Is it standard to use a lowercase F when talking about the genre? Otherwise, I think they should probably go back to being capitalized, as Florida is a proper noun. You can respond here, I'll put your talk page on my watchlist. Indsutrial Metal

My reason for the revert is simple -- the user who's IP address always begins with "87.122" keeps removing bands to fit his personal musical beliefs and a personal vendetta he has against selected bands. Simply look at the user's edits and you will see what I mean.

Energy Flash book

Worth checking out the Energy Flash book if you haven't read it? It explains a lot on rave, house, techno and breakbeat hardcore backgrounds. It covers a little on gabba, bouncy techno and happy hardcore (breakbeat) and from what I've read is fairly accurate.

I've added a default parameter to the template, which links to Category:Unassessed music genre articles. You can change them to Category:No-Class music genre articles if you wish, but WP Cyclones uses that category to catch mis-typed assessments, so it's a little benefit I recommend for your project. Beltane

Thanks for creating the article about Beltane Fire Festival - I had been planning on starting it for a while, but not got around to it yet. Its a nice description of the whole procession. The article could really do with more on the history of the festival, about its growth, and what happened in 2003 etc. I'll try and add something on this from what I know, and what I can find out from reliable sources. And the article really needs some photos - I've been looking for some freely licensed pictures, and found a few on flickr that are not bad [1]. SP

I feel that the title of Industrial or Industrial Rock is much more appropriate than Elektro-Industrial for the band, as Elektro conjures up images of bands like Wumpscut and Leaether Strip which have little to anything to do with SP both sonically and physically. The only real connection that SP has with "Elektro" is Bill Leeb, and that was a very brief relationship. In addition, the new SP album can hardly be called "Elektro-Industrial", more of a hard electronic rock. Dr. Ke 19:05, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Pumpin' house

Read what I am saying. There is no such sub-genre as pumpin' house. The word is just a description as in 'bangin' or somesuch. The word itself (like 'funky' house) seems to stem from descriptions of tracks in record shops. You cant describe whether a track is 'pumpin' or not, its ridiculous. The specifics as described on the PH page could apply to more or less any sub-style of house music. Pumpin' house isnt recognised as a sub-style in any significant way - if its on CDs or whatever, its as a descriptive word like 'banging' or 'quality', not as a style...

While I'm here, can you please stop people quoting Ishtak's Guide To Electronic Music as a external source. The site is a piss-take. The creator freely admits to knowing little about dance music and the content is a mixture of guesswork, assumptions, hearsay and complete nonsense. Its tongue-in-cheek at best and shouldnt be taken as gospel. Its no use as a proper reference work and several entries amongst wiki's pages concerning sub-styles of dance music are taken verbatim from Ishtak's guide.

Disco & Electronic Arts?

Hey, I'm what you might consider a very small time musician, mostly in electronica, and I noticed you editted some stuff on the list of music genres page. I was just wondering if you had AIM so we could talk about a few of your changes. For instance, Disco is pretty much a type of house music. I wouldn't have given in it's own section. Spam Links

I think the website in question www.poundingbeats.com has just as much right to be there as any of the other websites under the Hardcore Techno section.

Considering the www.gabber.org website just seems to consist of a page saying "It Works", I find it rather ironic and strange that you have choosen not to remove that website.

And the other website is a german website by the looks of it on an english language wiki page!

Ok I believe I know who you are, and I know full well you have had a grudge against Pounding Beats and its owner for quite sometime.

If I was a spammer I would have spammed many other music genre related pages (Happy Hardcore, DnB etc), but I am not a spammer. I have read the rules and I do not see why I cannot post the link to www.poundingbeats.com on the page and the link is just as valid as any link on that page.

And you talk about my persistance, your entire history on wikipedia only involves removing that link, so do not pretend that you are a helper of wikipedia, like I say I know who you are and you are only doing it out of spite.

I dont care if you think you know who I am. Thats not the issue. YOUR entire history consists of adding that site. Mine doesnt consist of removing it because Im on a dynamic IP. Your site (under wikipedia rules) shouldnt be there. And you've been told this repeatedly and yet continue to do it, thus breaking those rules. It's not a matter for debate here or anywhere else. Which bit of 'Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product' dont you get?. From what I can see your website is all but one of those examples given. How does your website help people understand the subject matter of the page better? What purpose does adding your link serve except as an attempt to entice people to join your website/forum? All I see is a half-dead forum and a few club listings. Regardless of any other subject you bring up, regardless of any other site you refer to, regardless of my bias, the site you are adding should not be there. This is very clear. And if it makes you happy I will delete those other links too which you correctly identified as equally irrelevant. NO whats really strange is that, you persistantly removed my link but not the other links. I never complained about them, I was just saying if your allowing those sites to be there (which you were), then my site has just as much right to be there.

And whats also strange is that, why have you choosen to target the Hardcore Techno page, and not gone about removing links from Happy Hardcore, DnB, Trance and the rest.

Are you even paying attention to what I said? It doesnt MATTER what I or anyone else do or dont remove on other pages or what my motives for removing anything is. YOUR link should not be on THAT page. Stop trying to use precedent of other pages to defend your spamming. By wikipedia rules it shouldnt be there. And if you see other links that shouldnt be there on other pages, dont come running to me, just remove them yourself. Anyway, what if I am biased, you're still breaking the rules and thats the only things that matters. "Still do not see why the link cannot be added but I cannot be bothered to justify myself." I quote the particular section AGAIN for your benefit: Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. editing one dificult obscure music genre: BAILE FUNK CARIOCA

I'm trying to add references and common sense to this "urban myth" subject, and clean lots of advertising (specifically at the "abroad" section, european promoters) at the article baile funk, and add referenced info on this genre that has lots of influence on the dance scene today.

different from many other music genres that are 30 years old, this one has a special obscure story, pointed by all important medias such as BPM magazine, SPIN and others, as a result from brazilian society (and media) historycal issues, I'm brazilian and agree. I'm also a baile funk researcher, but not a writer, many formulas are new for me, and I just understood the PREVIEW button.

I do work with a label that are NOT in the article, altough some of the necessary and still not many external links are related to it, am I doing any wrong? Can I have the help from experienced guys like you? thankxx if you can help me interest real serious people, this piece now a days is abandonned at crazy promoters hands, I do have information but dont know much about wiki-ways or journalistic texts.
