Question from SOSARAVANN on Wikipedia talk:Update (23:18, 26 September 2024)

--SOSARAVANN (talk) 23:18, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Try to stay within the top levels of the triangle.

Are you a newcomer to Wikipedia? Here are some resources that you may find helpful:

Your Noticeboard thread

Hello Clovermoss, I obviously don't mean to imply bad faith or anything, but your recent NPOV noticeboard thread on parental investment had me concerned. This seems to be a claim that is absolutely central to evolutionary psychology and can be found across thousands of solid RSs. I don't think it's a good idea to make an open-ended appeal like one might with GENSEX topics more generally. This really is hard science. Biohistorian15 (talk) 19:52, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[]

The language is quite clumsy, but not in an unduly POV sort of way, is it? One might speak of "biological females" I guess. Biohistorian15 (talk) 19:53, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[]
My concern was not from a GENSEX perspective. I'm a cisgender woman and I think it's entirely reasonable to place this on the NPOV noticeboard. It's just straight up weird to say stuff like this in wikivoice. At the very least WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV. But generalizing people's behaviour (especially the way it is in that article) is really questionable. It's literally saying that women are only attracted to men with resources as if that's some unquestionable fact. It's important that stuff about humans is handled more delicately. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:58, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[]
Yeah, language sure isn't ideal, but that's more of a CIR than POV issue I think. "Ressource" has many meanings though. Biohistorian15 (talk) 20:05, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[]
I think it's very much less than ideal. For example, I have no interest in ever being a relationship with anyone so it's clearly incorrect to state that all woman act a certain way and have specific motivations for their sexual attraction. It's eerily similar to claims made by those in the Manosphere. I think starting a noticeboard thread is very much justified and there's definitely WP:DUE weight issues. As another editor has already stated Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If you would like to dispute this, I encourage you to comment at the thread itself, because I'm not removing it. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 20:10, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Hello, I am trying to post my query. But it's just bringing me back to the post page. Every time. --Kingstonacuk (talk) 14:54, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Question from Mtankeu (10:00, 10 September 2024)

Hi, I'm trying to have my user page on wikipedia, so that we can search my name on google and have my wikipedia page. I just finished my local user page "User:Mtankeu" but i want to use my name "Marius TANKEU" instead.

How to do that please?

Thanks! --Mtankeu (talk) 10:00, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Hi Mtankeu. Userpages aren't really meant to show up in search engines because they're not encyclopedia content. Sometimes they do anyways but that's not the purpose of one. Please read this page about what userpages are for. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:57, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[]
Thanks a lot.
So how do i create a wikipedia page for myself that can be searched on search engines?
Regards, Mtankeu (talk) 12:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[]
@Mtankeu: Wikipedia isn't really for writing an article about yourself. Please see this page. If you become notable, someone that doesn't have a conflict of interest will probably create an article about you. Please note that this isn't always a good thing. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 12:54, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[]
Thank you! in advance
Can i write an article about a charity opened 10 years ago? They are making a big impact in Africa since 10 years. Mtankeu (talk) 11:19, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[]
@Mtankeu: Organizations (whether nonprofit or for profit) actually have to meet additional requirements to be what Wikipedia considers to be notable. Read this page to find out what those are. Hopefully you'll be able to find the coverage you need if they're making a big impact. If you link the sources you'd like to cite, I can provide my perspective on whether or not they meet those requirements. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Congrats!

I just read your Signpost article. I hadn’t heard about you being Wikimedia of the Year. Well-done! Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 12:24, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024

Hello Clovermoss:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from Blackhaert007 on Siwa (17:11, 13 September 2024)

Hello sir, i wanted to create a webpage of a place with its stats and history all arrangend in systematic order. I'm a beginner. --Blackhaert007 (talk) 17:11, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Hi Blackhaert007. I'll leave some links on your talk page that should help you as a newbie. If you're trying to create an article, I suggest that you read this guide. It's important that the subject meets Wikipedia's guidelines for inclusion. Let me know if you have any further questions. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:28, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Editor reflections

Although 3/4 years passed after this successful interview (that actually brought you into the podium of Wikimania Katowice last month), the interview is spreading into the Simple English Wikipedia with this. I would congratulate you again for this achievement at such a young age. Just FYI. ToadetteEdit (talk) 18:34, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[]

It hasn't even been a year yet. I did get pinged about the Simple English Wikipedia version earlier this morning and I posted about it at User talk:Clovermoss/Editor reflections. Thanks for making sure I knew about it, though. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:38, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Hello I would want to add a page for my band on wikipedia how do I do it --Purplepridefamilyvocalfusion (talk) 19:48, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Hi @Purplepridefamilyvocalfusion: You would have a conflict of interest because it is "your" band and I would suggest you not try to create an article about it for that reason. If you really want to try, please read this guide, which also says that this path is highly discouraged. The band would have to meet the requirements for what Wikipedia considers to be notable and written in neutral language, as Wikipedia is not for promotional purposes. Question from Lisbon Experience (11:51, 19 September 2024)

Hi I'm doing a research work about some aspects of the Portuguese history. The article is quiet ready to be published. I've read some of the conditions to publish and understood that I need to do at least 10 reviews of existent articles do publish. Am I right? --Lisbon Experience (talk) 11:51, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[]

@Lisbon Experience: You don't have to "review" existing articles. You could start a draft that someone could review and move to mainspace for you, or you could move it yourself if you have "autoconfirmed" (this happens when you've had your account for 4 days and made 10 edits, just commenting here counts as one). I would suggest making sure that you're following all the advice for creating your first article before you do that, though. Let me know if you have any further questions. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 12:03, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[]

I did read your stuff

Formulating a couple of questions, nothing anywhere near as time-consuming as the time sink that surely was. Great job. Probably will be a day or two more before I can get them to you. Thank you so much. Elinruby (talk) Elinruby (talk) 18:31, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Is this in regards to Talk:2021 Canadian church burnings#Text source integrity analysis or something else? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 13:01, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Question from Haris-Rahmani (13:29, 21 September 2024)

how can i edit the articls --Haris-Rahmani (talk) 13:29, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[]

@Haris-Rahmani: What article are you trying to edit? Usually you can just click the "edit" button but some articles are protected, in which case you'd need to make an edit request on the talk page. Feel free to ask me further questions if you find any of this confusing. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 13:33, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Question from CamTheLearning (18:25, 21 September 2024)

I'm looking to and deeply interested in making a wiki on miraheze about theKnowledge users may not know about how to use their computer. Things like terminology, how file paths are structured and why they are used by applications. Explaining basic concepts like what a start button is, etc. Essentially I want to be able to provide a resource where a reader con go in knowing nothing about their computer, and come away knowing more in a easy to follow organization method. I have some ideas about how to structure some articles but ideally need refining and feedback. So, I approach you today asking if you have any specific ideas about how a wiki page should be structured in terms on content organization (like how news articles are using the inverted pyramid format for information). I apologize if this is out of scope for your assistance and feedback. --CamTheLearning (talk) 18:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Hi CamTheLearning. It is a bit out of scope so the best I can do is really point you towards the direction of PixDeVl. They're the only person I know who knows anything about Miraheze. Anyways, I'm here if you ever want to learn more about how Wikipedia editing works. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:31, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[]
Thanks for the heads-up Clover, appreciate it!
@CamTheLearning I'm not personally very experienced in article structuring, since I sold my soul from the article editing business to admin and internalism stuff a year ago, but I can try and give my 2 cents. For general encyclopedia article structure, ironically I tend to point at Wikimedia, but for something like this where you need to explain things it's more nuanced. I'd suggest looking at existing resources that have been said to help by their intended audience and go from there(although some creativity may be needed). At a first glance [1] looks to be a decent guide to take inspiration from. I'd highly suggest trying to get other people on board to help since lot's of single person projects can be very hard to maintain. I'm not familiar enough with Wikimedia to point you to WP:How to structure an article(although projectspace may have something, maybe someone else knows). Apologies I can't be of much help, if you want to try and ask the wider Miraheze community about ideas or general assistance, our Discord/IRC and Community Portal our probably your best bet. Feel free to ask me if there's anything else, I may ping if I think of other useful resources. Sorry again, and have a great day! PixDeVl yell talk to me! 19:33, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[]
Thanks for the replies @Clovermoss and @PixDeVl !
I will read through some resources, slowly. This project is something I see as a necessary resource, and while Important, I am still brainstorming quite a lot and reading up on ... so many things. CamTheLearning (talk) 20:12, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Question from OMG TEAM japan (13:53, 26 September 2024)

Hello --OMG TEAM japan (talk) 13:53, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]

@OMG TEAM japan: Hi to you as well. Do you have any questions about editing Wikipedia? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:31, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Please be more careful

Hi there. Please try to be a little more careful about statements like this. I never stated that Significa didn't do her due diligence. Please be more careful about putting words in other people's mouths. Thank you. Happy editing. GrammarDamner how are things? 17:24, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]

@GrammarDamner: While you didn't say those words exactly, that is the interpretation I got from reading them. I'm open to feedback but I'm not sure what the issue is here? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:33, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]
When I quoted you, I made that clear. But I really don't see what the problem is with me refuting your central argument that Significa was starting AfDs that didn't have a lack of notability/referencing (when these AfDs were very much worth starting). Saying what you said strongly implies that someone isn't doing their due diligence in regards to starting AfDs. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:42, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]
It's the word state, isn't it? I think I can see why you might have an issue with that comment now. It would've been better if I'd use the word implied, instead. Does that resolve your concerns GrammarDamner? Alternatively I should have quoted you first and then said I disagree and I dislike that this implies that she didn't do her due diligence? This obviously matters to you because you wouldn't bring it up more than a week after the RfA ended if it didn't. To be quite frank, that RfA has made me quite jaded about things and I hope I didn't come across as too defensive here. The immense frustration I felt then has not settled yet. I'm not sure it ever will. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:04, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]

Question from Chainsaaaw (17:30, 26 September 2024)

I was looking through articles and found this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IHeartMedia and want to learn how to fix the infobox as it's broken and I think I could learn how to better fix articles if I learn how to fix this one. --Chainsaaaw (talk) 17:30, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[]

@Chainsaaaw: Thanks for noticing. I fixed the infobox by reverting the recent changes made by an IP editor (see here). I'm not sure what advice to give on fixing articles like this other than be really careful when messing around with templates... a missing | or }} tends to cause most of these issues in my experience. It can help to "preview" a bunch of times if you're ever unsure and trying different things until they work. I could ask around if you want more specific advice.
