Welcome to my talk page. Click here to leave me a message.

If you have come here about a page I deleted, you will probably find the explanation here; if that does not answer your question, click the link just above to leave me a message. Please mention the name of the page, and sign your post with four "tilde" characters ~~~~ so that I know who you are.

If I have left a message on your talk page, please reply there; I am watching it.

If you leave a message here I will usually reply here, but if my reply contains advice I hope you will find useful, I may place it on your talk page. (Talk page stalkers: you are welcome; if you see no reply here, there is probably one on the other talk page; I have decided to stop making a note here when I reply there).

You may E-mail me via the "E-mail this user" link under "Toolbox" in the left-hand sidebar, but you will get a faster response here; I suggest you do not use e-mail unless you need privacy. I will normally reply on your talk page, not by e-mail.

Whiskey Slaps

JohnCD, why did you delete the talk page for Whiskey Slaps without responding to the references that I had added to it? It seems that you've deleted valuable citations and references that I gathered in support of the page. If this is not true, please let me know.

Thujone33 (talk) 00:26, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Thujone33[]

Because the added references were only Examiner.com and Youtube. Wikipedia does not consider those reliable sources because anyone can write whatever they like there. JohnCD (talk) 12:18, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Whiskey Slaps is not a fad, and it'll be around long after you and I are dead and gone. As the Wikipedia founders have said, "Wikipedia is for the people, by the people." JohnCD, all you have done is weaken a culture today. My friend works for New York Times. I'm going to have him write a full-page article on Whiskey Slaps, and then you will have egg on your face, sir! 76.169.139.212 (talk) 05:15, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Thujone33[]

When the NYT publishes a full-page article about Whiskey Slaps it could be reconsidered, but I shall not hold my breath. Multiple sources are generally expected, see WP:GNG - got any pals at other papers? JohnCD (talk) 15:22, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Yes Sir !

Yes Sir, They agreed to put the user-box! But I will not put my very personal words! Thank you Sir for the explanation, Thanks a lot!

The Anti-ClueBot NG Movement

Please can I request a full explanation for why my contest to speedy deletion was rejected? I feel I am well within my rights to document the petition against ClueBot NG in an objective and factual manner, which I feel I achieved. Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boomage (talkcontribs) 21:49, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[]

I will reply tomorrow. JohnCD (talk) 23:17, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[]
For the Anti-Cluebot NG Movement to have an article in the main encyclopedia, it would need to have been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources outside Wikipedia which could be cited to show WP:Notability, and it hasn't. I'll give you some advice on your talk page on what you could do within Wikipedia, but I don't think you'll get much support - the general view of Cluebot NG is that it does many mens'-worth of essential maintenance work. JohnCD (talk) 16:35, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Hello John

Wondering if you can review this block for me please to ensure I've reached the right decision.

I blocked this account a few days ago, the reason being is that this editor could be impersonating Lorraine Newman. I know that the rules for blocking people normally state that if the account hasn't been active in 2-3 weeks then to do nothing as it's normally considered abandoned then. This editors last edits were just over 4 weeks ago, however I made an exception in this case due to the possibility that it could be someone impersonating Lorraine Newman. The real Lorraine Newman is the Executive Producer at EastEnders, this editor does claim to be Lorraine Newman on the talk page but in all honesty everything they've spoken about on the talk page about EastEnders you can find in a general Google search or even by looking on Wikipedia! I just have a gut feeling that it's not her.

This wasn't a report to WP:UAA, in fact I noticed this when I was checking something on the EastEnders page. I noticed someone had created a page for her now and went to look at it out of general interest. When I looked at the page history to find out who created the page, well that's when I noticed the name.

Like I say it is outwith the blocking guidelines because the editor hasn't edited in about 4 weeks, however I'm erring on the safe side because I don't want Wikipedia to get the blame for a famous person being impersonated. It's because it's outwith the guidelines that I'm asking your advice - is my block correct?--5 albert square (talk) 17:09, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[]

I think I would perhaps have started with a message asking her to email to confirm her identity, but it's a matter of judgement and I wouldn't say what you did was wrong - this is a field where impersonation by a fan is not unlikely, and if there wasn't a convincing response you would need to go on to block anyway. Perhaps you could soften the block notice with a more personal message below, paraphrasing the fourth para of WP:REALNAME, to emphasise that the block is to protect her against possible impersonation.
How pleasant to encounter the word outwith south of the Border! JohnCD (talk) 22:59, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[]
Thanks for the advice John, I've done that. As for the word outwith, it's probably because I come from Scotland haha!
As for the Anti-ClueBot movement that's mentioned above on your talk page, I don't think there is a movement at all. I came across this at WP:ANI yesterday and posted my thoughts. From what I can make out one user has taken offence at ClueBot NG posting a message on their talk page and seems to have started what looks like a vendetta against ClueBot NG and it's admins.--5 albert square (talk) 11:38, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[]
Yes, this is a new user who is having some trouble getting the idea of how Wikipedia works - Boing has given him a lot of good advice and I have added some more and said, if you want to press it, take it to WP:VPR, but you will get nowhere. See response just below. JohnCD (talk) 12:17, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Thanks for the advice

Thank you for taking the time to give me advice, I really appreciate this. But I'm surprised you think the campaign/petition is on Wikipedia itself. I am gaining members for the petition (a LOT of members) elsewhere on another website. Thank you for reading.Boomage (talk) 23:55, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Boomage[]

For your perusal: I'm not sure what these users are doing, but it doesn't appear to be likely to benefit WP: User:Jimmy Madison, User:Richard Madison, User:Danny Madison, User:Danny R. Madison, User:Danny J. Madison. Jimmy and Richard's user pages are both mangled versions of James Madison. The three Danny user pages are nearly identical and appear to be hoaxes masquerading as articles. Another apparent member of the cluster is User:Madison Sims, as user Danny Madison has edited that user page also. I didn't know if this was worthy of an SPI case since none of these users have edited outside the cluster of their own user pages, and it might be two different people involved. However, it doesn't look like it really belongs on WP either.

Over in Commons back on July 4 user James Madison uploaded the image found in the three Danny articles. The same Commons user also dabbled in template creation there, but with no success.

I have tagged all of these pages to prevent indexing, but that's as far as I've gone. Perhaps you know the best course of action to take from here. Thanks. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 07:25, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[]

I have deleted one per WP:BLP. I think the right thing to do with the other userpages is a joint MfD as WP:FAKEARTICLEs, and accompany that with a note on their talk pages that WP is not for that sort of game. I'll do that today if I have time. No need to bother with an SPI if they then fade away, only if they persist in being a nuisance. JohnCD (talk) 12:11, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Request for assistance

Dear John, I wonder whether I might enlist your assistance in a matter. I am an ex Journalist from New York, but British born and current resident. I have created a page on a CMS website that had been reported by a famous bank, the BBC and in use by a Cancer Charity, and therefore worthy of attention. The page was looked upon favourably already by another wikipedian, and together we have made a concerted effort to making it very readable, and useful.

However, another user who has already been noted for jumping to speedy conclusions to remove pages has nominated the page for deletion.

Whilst I can understand the motive for doing so, it is very hasty for the following reason: Since the software is non-commercial (i.e. it does not charge for its services) it does not require a 'powered by' slogan, nor branding of any kind and therefore has gone (in my opinion, unfairly) unnoticed for some time, despite it being growing significantly for over 5 years.

The user that has applied the tag is ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:FreeRangeFrog#Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion.2FJumping_to_conclusions

and the page we would like to maintain is;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixudo

If you would be so kind, I would greatly appreciate your assistance, as I believe my contributions are fair, unbiased and useful.

Regards

M MarcelBrandon (talk) 12:10, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Deletion discussions of this kind are routine, and no single person will decide the result - the discussion remains open for seven days, any interested user can comment, and after seven days an uninvolved administrator will decide what to do, based not on a count of heads but on the strength of the arguments put forward in terms of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The issue here is that Wikipedia does not expect to have an an entry for every product that exists; the criterion used is called WP:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" - see WP:42. The more references you can find and add to the article, the better. You are welcome to comment in the discussion - read WP:DISCUSSAFD for advice - and you can make a formal keep !vote (the ! is to emphasis that it is not a vote) but should only do that once. JohnCD (talk) 13:00, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Hello, would you be willing to perform the delete and move on this article? About five weeks ago, I started a thread suggesting that we move Tokyo Girl (TV series) to the Tokyo Girl title and possibly mention the song and link to the song's album. Since then, there have been three supporting comments and no objections so I think it's time to close it. I initially asked User:DGG but he declined. Thanks! SwisterTwister talk 21:12, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[]

I hesitate to rush in where DGG fears to tread, but I'll look at it. Not till tomorrow, though. JohnCD (talk) 21:17, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[]
Done. I have put a hatnote for the song to point to the album article. JohnCD (talk) 10:35, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Singhanavati, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dhatu (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hallo, I've just found the record of my previous attempt to raise this editor's disruptive editing at ANI (1 October 2012): Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive770#POV_editing_re_Akanland_.2F_Ghana_by_User:MarkMysoe. Just in case it's useful in any further discussion. I don't know why my previous archive search didn't find it. PamD 22:27, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Thank you, that may be useful if there is further discussion. I didn't know he had been at it for so long. JohnCD (talk) 22:49, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Thank you for moving the article! gidonb (talk) 16:51, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[]

My pleasure. That is a splendid picture! JohnCD (talk) 17:22, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Please Review

There is an ongoing ANI thread regarding me[[1]]. I'm not the issue here (really!). We have a history of accusations against me of Bias, Racism, Manipulation and a overall disregard to wiki policy. I'd like one of two things possibly both. The thread should be closed, it's a waste of everyone's time. The author themselves may possibly qualify for a token block as the personal attacks, assumptions of bad faith and is also a COI account as they are writing about a personal friend. The editor has been warned by multiple people at the AFD, On their talk page, my talk page and also at ANI about AGF. Either way it should be stopped to limit disruption. I'm fully open to reviewing my own edits on this because I have bent over backwards trying to explain the policies at length and nothing has been inappropriate but the circus needs to stop. This was also placed on another admins page too but I know you guys are busy folk. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 17:24, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Insignificance of Win McMurrys' page

What was the insignificance of the page i created for Win McMurry? I could easily remove the jokes about nonworking, elderly dicks but her beauty is undeniable, no? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alatkins8812 (talkcontribs) 22:02, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[]

This is a project to build a serious encyclopedia, not a social-networking or gossip site for people to rhapsodize about their girlfriends' "ripply, golden hair, luscious pinks lips and complexion, exotic green eyes... " etc. For that sort of thing, try Facebook or Myspace. If you want to make a serious contribution here, read WP:Your first article and WP:Notability (people). JohnCD (talk) 22:55, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Oh, thank you, I thought the site roughly equated to those but now I realize it really is a legitimate reference site! If you prefer men to women, you could have just projected your dissidence that way. I'll try to be more sincere in future work or take my ramblings to a more appropriate place. I do love myspace after all. I'm just so damn immature. That's "Em-Mah-Tour", of course, the only proper way to pronounce the word.

Improbable re-directs

User:RHaworth has just speedy deleted several pages for the same reason; User:Yunshui used it (R3: Recently created, implausible redirect) yesterday. Chrisieboy (talk) 18:25, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Well, that's up to their judgement, but EE.UU and EE UU definitely don't qualify for R3. I deleted the two "Eat poop" ones, but as vandalism. JohnCD (talk) 18:30, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]
Okay, thanks. Chrisieboy (talk) 18:40, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]
And as for State o' Japan - if you can provide readership figure that show large numbers of pirates read Wikipedia then fair enough, otherwise I'll stick with the validity of that R3 (or maybe "Aaarrr 3"...) Yunshui  19:06, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]
Ha, ha. Very clever :-) I have to say, I'm not convinced that EE UU is used in an English-language context. The MoD re-directs were declined by User:Nyttend, but I'm not convinced by the reasons given there either. Chrisieboy (talk) 19:40, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]
I don't care about all the variations with dots, but we should have EE UU and EE.UU. - they look odd to British eyes, but they are a standard Spanish abbreviation for Estados Unidos, redirects are cheap, they get about one hit a day each, and they were kept at RfD in 2011. There's a reason why WP:CSD#R3 says recently created - a long-standing redirect may have external links that would be broken by deleting it. JohnCD (talk) 21:01, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Question about page deletion

You deleted my page 'Molly Bennett' and I do not understand why? It was none of your concern. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SexWithStyles (talkcontribs) 23:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Read the explanation I put on your talk page. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a gossip site, so it is is selective about subjects for articles. Being "an aspiring website designer" and being "in a committed relationship" with an actor are not enough to meet the Wikipedia:Notability requirement. JohnCD (talk) 10:01, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Sasuke stages

Everything looks to be in order, although I don't usually look over the page. I do have an interest in the show, but the community involved with the show usually uses our own Wikia website due to the constant vandalism, it's just that someone was looking to also update the article for those not aware of our site (which we usually don't talk about to prevent vandals and spammers from coming over, since we have our own). I thank you for looking out, though. Rollinman (talk) 23:20, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[]

I have re-added the above image which is removed by User:Rich Farmbrough without edit summary on the Reform and criticism section on United Nations; since the image depicts one of the worst human tragedies human kind ever faced and reviewed by the UN itself its fault and found guilty.Sudar123 (talk) 02:17, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]

This is a content dispute, where admins have no special authority. Read WP:BRD - you should discuss this on the article talk page and try to reach a WP:Consensus; failing that, use WP:Dispute resolution. JohnCD (talk) 10:05, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Artpop mess

Hey John!

I need your help. User:193ra continues to create innapropriate articles, on the upcoming Lady Gaga album "Artpop" - despite consensus against it. S/he has been moving certain Article incubator project pages on the album to mainspace Artpop articles - I have reverted them - s/he has tried a different way - I have tried reverting that too, however now I have become totally confused in this loophole of moving. I'm dead set confused. Please take a look at their edits. If I revert further, I'll only be making the mess bigger than it is! Thank you, -- MSTR (Happy New Year!) 11:07, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]

I can't get to this for four or five hours. I'll look at it then, if no-one else has. JohnCD (talk) 11:13, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]
Okay, sorry if you find it confusing (doubt it, not everyone is like me -.-!) oh I need a holiday from WP... -- MSTR (Happy New Year!) 11:16, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]
Problem has been solved. JamesBWatson came to the rescue. Whilst some of us go worrying around like a headless chicken, you lot are very calm - a real gem to the project! Thank you! -- MSTR (Happy New Year!) 12:14, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]
Thanks, James. Actually, admins do get quite agitated sometimes, but James is one of the calmer ones. Any general calmness is probably due to a weary seen-it-all-before feeling. The really messy move-sequences are where somebody writes his autobiography/CV on his user page, and then moves "User:MrHopeful" to "Wikipedia:MrHopeful" and then to "Template:Mr Hopeful" and on to "MrHopeful", his user talk page going with it while more messages arrive on his original talk page... On occasion I have found it simplest to delete the whole mess and compose a new series of explanations and warnings for the original user talk page. JohnCD (talk) 16:04, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[]
Deleting and starting over would be the good way to go about it, because that many redirects is absolutely ridiculous. If people like us, are having trouble understanding where the redirects lead to - how are the people who created them, supposed to remember the paths also - esp., newbies? If only they had a better understanding of how moving - or editing in general, works. Oh isn't Wikipedia a beautiful place? -- MSTR (Happy New Year!) 02:43, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Khandadhar Falls/ Khandadhar Fall

Thanks for setting Khandadhar Falls in order. While that was being done Harichandan kar was busy creating a new article Khandadhar Fall. Please see and decide what should be done. - Chandan Guha (talk) 16:26, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[]

The new article has some more information and pictures, so I don't think it should be deleted per WP:CSD#A10, but it is in too tourist-guide style. It should be merged into the existing Khandadhar Falls, and I have put "mergefrom" and "mergeto" templates on the articles, but I do not have time actually to get involved in the merge. I will add a note at WT:IN and hope some other editors can help. JohnCD (talk) 16:58, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[]

Hi there, I saw your message on talk page of User:Khanshoaib2000 where you stated not to use personal information but the user has re-created an article about himself.
