AfD notice Jill Kenton

Nomination of Jill Kenton for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jill Kenton is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jill Kenton until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article.

Bluford Series Deletion

I appreciate hearing criteria for impartiality, but there is a gray area here. These words HAVE been said by "objective" parties such as the ALA (American Library Association) and the Journal for Adolescent and Adult Literacy (JAAL), and the books have sold over 9 million copies, so there is something to the idea that they are popular! Links to these authorities were in the deleted page. I can edit to address your concerns, but what was on that page is what others--not me--have been saying.

Also, the content of those pages took a while to compile and does not exist anywhere else except on Wikipedia. While I certainly can edit to add reference and more objective or third party language, I would like to get back the content as a baseline from which to start editing. Is that possible?

For all you do!! Have a wonderful HOLIDAY!!

Hello,

Is there any particular reason why the article was full protected, and not semi? The way it looked to me, it appeared to have stable progressive edits in the most recent past.

I considered raising the same protest, but I couldn't make up my mind on whether I actually support or oppose the lock. Orange, you should know a couple IPs[1][2] have been trying to censor Talk page comments. This IP[3] is also most likely a sock. Not sure how much it matters since the socks are not editing article-space, but I will look over the Talk page to see if there are legitimate BLP issues on Talk. Need an Admin maybe, again

I bumped into this article, David Rhodes, while working on the Unreferenced articles project, hoping to add an infobox and give it a few references, which is the point of the project. I've been doing this kind of thing for a few years now, and have learned to check out the "official website" for the BLP articles without references, and this article is, word for word, the exact write-up from his website. What is to be done in such cases? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 06:19, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Seems to have been a copyright violation since the late oughts, not just recently; deleted with link to page copied. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:55, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[]
Thanks! It seemed obvious self-promotion. People are pushing harder to be listed in the Wikipedia. A great generous photographer who supplied dozens of photos to us asked me to write up his business ln the Wikipedia. I explained that it's a WP:COI issue, (and also copped out by just saying I only do biographies of musicians which is true, but spineless) and haven't really heard from him since... a pity. Q: when I find suspicious articles like these that are mostly copy/pasted, if you are busy, can you recommend a couple other editors who also may assist specifically with this kind of problem? They aren't always as obvious as this one, but still, really close. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 20:09, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[]
One of the best in the biz, so to speak, is User:Moonriddengirl, a copyright standout. Otherwise: you may want to take a look at some of our Music Wikiprojects for names of active editors in that field. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:18, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Protected Page

OrangeMike, I got a request from TOS to unprotect Suburban Express (or, rather, to change it to semiprotection due to vandalism). I can't see a dispute that corresponds to your protection reason, but rather than just blindly unprotecting it I wanted to run it by you first. Is there a particular reason you wanted this fully protected? (I note that the full protection happened about a week after the revert war ended, and that was actually due to vandalism from a socking user.) Any objection to me dropping this down to a semiprotection? --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 16:29, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Parsons Paris

Glad you are attempting to sort out Parsons Paris School of Art and Design. It looks like an editor is trying to copy paste a declined article at AfC (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Parsons Paris) about the new unrelated campus that is opening in autumn 2013.

According to this news article the New York Times was completely confused too!! Sionk (talk) 19:15, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Follow-Up

Thanks Mike for your insight.

I didn't write my own wiki page and I fully understand the purpose and function of Wikipedia. The link I provided to my deleted page indicates that my page was created by other wiki users.

With that in mind, how should I proceed?

The deletion was made on a statement that is bias and inaccurate. The person who deleted the page has a great knowledge of music, but specifically not the kind that I write. He even attests to this on his personal wiki page! It's like having a Classical musicologist weigh in on heavy metal. So I question the validity of his subjective reason for its deletion. A google search of my name can establish credibility through the accolades and achievements I've been blessed to attain in my career. Of course there were a handful of credible journal entries, billboard links and so on attached to the wiki page on me.

Thanks for your help -

Paris College of Art

Hello, I have been attempting to make changes to the Paris College of Art page to respond to an order of an ICC Arbitration Tribunal regarding discontinuing the usage of the Ecole Parsons a Paris name in association with Paris College of Art. By reverting my changes the page does not conform with the order. Could you please revert my changes?

Thanks SJKK57 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sjkk57 (talkcontribs) 09:39, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[]

That is an encyclopedia article about Paris College of Art, not something created by or maintained by the PCA. The ICC tribunal has nothing whatsoever to do with actual recorded history, and we will not permit tampering with the historical record. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:27, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[]

You re William Jockusch: "BBB, take a look at his recent edit at Feminism - clearly a "men's rights" NPOV/FRINGE violation."

I didn't notice this comment, Mike, when you posted it. I just happened to see it now when I was looking at what Sarek did on that page. Did you just want to make me aware of it, or did you have something more in mind? Feminism is not formally subject to probationary sanctions - at least, there's no notice on the talk page. Do you think we should make it subject to sanctions? Surprisingly for me, not a lot of editing is done on the article, so it wouldn't be a major burden to put it under the MRM umbrella. From looking at its recent history, I see a few names I recognize as being involved in editing MRM articles. Anyway, I'm just following up.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:23, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Boart Longyear page revisions

Hi Orange Mike - I see you changed the Boart Longyear page back to its original version. I work with the company and am simply trying to correct some things in the timeline. We tried to take a very unbiased, fact-based, historical approach when creating the timeline, so if there is a particular area that you felt came across as promotional, please let me know, and I can soften the language. Also, we'd like to upload the approved corporate logo, if possible, but we're not autoconfirmed. Perhaps you could help us with that. Thanks!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnkrantz123 (talkcontribs)

Information icon Hello, Johnkrantz123. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Boart Longyear, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:45, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. I understand Wiki is pretty strict about those who have a relationship to the organization being written about, but the purpose of making these changes was to correct factual errors in the timeline and to correct the issues outlined at the top of the page, where it says "This article has multiple issues." I believe the version you restored is actually quite a bit more promotional than the version I attempted to publish. Is there a third party editor or someone you can direct us to that would work with us to correct these problems? We just want to make sure the correct information is getting out there and that it is unique to what is already out there on the web. I have no intentions of creating advertorial or promotional content, and I am happy to remove any portions that you deem so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnkrantz123 (talkcontribs) 19:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Three things that led to a rejection:
"world's leading provider"
The timeline, written in present tense, replacing the narrative written in past tense.
The bullet-list-style "awards" section, again replacing a narrative.
This discussion should have taken place before you started to edit; and it should take place on the talk page of the article. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:52, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Thanks, Mike. If I change the present tense to past, delete "world's leading" and remove the awards section, will my edits be acceptable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnkrantz123 (talkcontribs) 20:01, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[]
