Anek Laothamatas (Thai: เอนก เหล่าธรรมทัศน์) is a Thai political scientist and politician. As of 5 August 2020, he serves as Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.[1][2] Anek Laothamatas made his name in academic world with “Tale of Two Democracies”, which explores the divide in Thai society between the rural and urban sectors. But in his role as a minister, Anek has become an enemy of the student-led movement that is seeking democratic change to Thailand’s status quo.[3]
