🌐 EU AI law adopted: Does it improve the use of AI or stifle innovation? In March, the EU AI Act was given the green light in the EU Parliament. The law aims to create a uniform framework for the use of artificial intelligence (AI). What's your opinion on that? Our CEO Lennart Schulenburg has commented on this new regulation in the IHK zu Lübeck magazine (German only, see doc). Above all, and this applies to so many regulation projects: The AI Act must not restrict the ability to innovate! What we find good and welcome:  ·    The planned golden standard for risk assessment, which is intended to improve safety in the use of AI and strengthen consumer confidence. It will undoubtedly help to promote the acceptance and use of AI technologies across all sectors. ·    Accordingly, the introduction of verification requirements to increase the reliability of the technology is a good thing. The concerns about potential risks and ethical issues can be addressed and ultimately the potential of AI can be fully exploited. ·     The risk-based approach should be very precisely defined to cover all application areas and classify them correctly into different risk levels. We currently see us confronted with numerous gray areas where it is not clearly regulated which applications fall into which category. We are very critical of this:  ·     The gradual entry into force is questionable given the existing need for improvement. The regulation of high-risk applications, which is not expected to take full effect until mid-2026, also harbors considerable uncertainties and could result in additional costs due to developments and audits. ·     European companies will face additional bureaucratic hurdles and higher compliance costs, which in turn will affect the ability to innovate - a clear disadvantage in global competition. Overall, the EU AI Act is an important initiative. However, the regulatory authorities should better involve the industry to ensure that the framework is precise, balanced, and innovation-friendly.
