Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.
We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules. In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions. Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

Thats different to the english Wikipedia: They accept Fair use like w:en:File:The Simpsons Hit and Run cover.png, Commons does not accept fair use. --Martin H. (talk) 23:18, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
File:MJRecliner.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Files for wiki page
Hello,
Thank you for your time about looking out for copy righted pictures.
About all the files on my wiki articles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Software_for_Learning_and_Research
A photoshop screenshot was removed. I had do take another one and re-upload it. (I also made an un-delete request)
I just want to make a humble note that I made all of the pictures on that page myself, I.e screen shots and photos. The wikipedia article is actually a school assignment and I really need it to function (at least till march). Please kindly avoid deleting the files ^__^. I can give you a guarantee that you won't find anyone of those photos anywhere.
Thank you kindly!!!
(I'm a new user, please excuse silli behaviour in advance)

- Hi! Thank you for your message. While you may have taken the screenshot yourself, the screenshot mentioned contained substantial copyrighted assets in it. Please see Commons:Screenshots for more. It's important to be aware that we can't keep any content for the sake of one's class if it's not deemed appropriate for Commons. If you need anymore help, please don't hesitate to contact me again.
