An effort to recall Jose Barajas from his seat on the San Ysidro School District Board of Trustees in California resulted in his resignation. Barajas was served a notice of intent to recall on August 12, 2015. Those involved with the effort cited the following reasons for recalling Barajas: bad fiscal decisions, teacher pay cuts and "failing to hold the former superintendent responsible for mismanagement and ethics violations."[1]

Barajas, who was also the target of a recall in 2013, submitted his letter of resignation to Superintendent Julio Fonseca on August 19, 2015. He said he did not want the district to be embroiled in "another negative distraction."[1]

The 2013 recall effort was started after the board accepted the resignation of then-Superintendent Manuel Paul and gave him a $230,000 severance package. The effort did not make it on the ballot.[1][2]
