Filter adult content

With Yandex.Search, you can find any information available on the internet, including resources “for adults”. To exclude unwanted content from search results, Yandex provides different filtering modes for the documents found:

  • No filter: Search results include all the documents found for the query, including internet resources “for adults”.
  • Moderate filter: Sites “for adults” are excluded from search results if the query is not clearly directed at finding such resources (this mode is enabled by default).
  • Family search: Adult content is completely excluded from search results (even if the query is clearly directed at finding such resources).

The Moderate filter and Family mode generally do a good job at excluding inappropriate content from search results, but they may miss something or make a mistake. If you see a page with “adult content” in Yandex Search when filtering is enabled, please tell us its URL.

Enable Family search mode

You can choose how to filter search results in the search settings. To do this:

  1. In Filter search results, select Family mode.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Save.

You can disable Family mode and choose another way to filter documents at any time. Children's accounts are an exception. For children's accounts, family search mode is enabled by default and can't be disabled.

To save the selected filtering mode and apply it to new sessions, enable cookies.

You can also set up Family search mode by using Yandex DNS or by entering the Yandex IP address with Family search mode in the hosts file. For more information about how to do this, see Family search mode for companies.

Disable Family mode in search

If Family mode was enabled in the search settings:

  1. In Filter search results, select the necessary mode.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Save.

If Family mode still affects the filtering of search results after you disabled it:

  • Clear the browser cache.

  • Delete Yandex cookies. To do this, go to Yandex Internetometer and click Delete cookies at the bottom of the page.

  • Check the DNS settings in your Wi-Fi network or on your device and change them, if necessary. To make sure the problem is in the DNS settings, connect to a different Wi-Fi network or use a mobile data network and repeat the query.

    Attention.

If you're using an Apple device, check if you have “Screen time” enabled. We recommend going to Settings → Screen time → Content and Privacy Restrictions → Content Restrictions → Web Content and disabling the Limit adult websites option.

To connect Yandex DNS on a computer, go to your network settings. Access to edit these settings may be restricted by the computer administrator.

The setup procedure depends on your operating system:
