The Glendronach 8 YO "The Hielan" was named after its Scottish home region, the Highlands. Through its presentation and taste, the single malt whisky is intended to bring Scotland closer to the connoisseur - as strong, complex and multi-layered as it is. The whisky from the Highlands is bottled at an intensive 46% vol. In addition, the single malt does not contain any colourings and is not chill filtered.
Aging
The single malt whisky is first stored in bourbon barrels. The subsequent storage takes place in sherry barrels (Pedro Ximinez and Oloroso) so that the Glendronach can absorb sherry aromas after 8 years. The bottling after eight years was a targeted step. The demand for Glendronach whisky was so high that the distillery met it with a reduction in age. So it was not necessary to switch to fillings without age information.
Nosing
The amber Glendronach promises a gentle and floral experience. In the fragrance it comes with orange blossom and a citrus aroma. In addition, sun-dried raisins and ripe plums make you want more.
Taste
The aroma of Glendronach is extremely fruity. Oranges, lemons and raisins are present. In addition you can taste a hint of ripe plums.
Glendronach is extremely complex and strong in taste. Here again the raisins with apricot jam show up. Gingerbread is also a special nuance. The combination of cocoa and tender caramel provides a wonderful sweetness.
Finish
In the finish, the Glendronach 8 YO is long and complex. This is also where storage in sherry barrels is most obvious. An unmistakable sherry taste resonates until the end.
